FORGOTTEN Vintage Arctic Cat Pantera Snowmobile - Will It RUN AND RIDE again?

I found an amazing deal on a 1976 Arctic Cat Pantera 5000 snowmobile. This vintage sled has been sitting in a shed and was last licensed in 1999. It appears to be in really good shape. I'm going to attempt to get it running, and immediately put it in the ditch FULL THROTTLE!

I believe this is my old sled! The reason it was last registered in 99 was because I left for the Marine Corps in the winter of 98. I bought the sled with no engine in Pequot Lakes where I lived at the time and it had 800 miles on it. The engine came from my 78 Pantera I rolled. Shortly after getting it running the original odometer quit so that has the one from my 78 in it. I cracked the air box inlets while working on it when it was really cold. Needed to put starting fluid in and got frustrated. I put in the orange slides for the track, 2 rear outside bogies were new in 1996. I put fuel kill switch to keep my brother from riding it. I sold it to a buddies dad around 2010 for a case of beer. I still have the registration card for it somewhere LOL But that sled flies for what it is! Enjoy! So glad to see it out there still ripping up the ditches!

@@jrkbgk1111 I tried to find my old registration card, but so far I can't find it.... I know I have it, but where is the issue. The things he listed are a dead giveaway though. I'm convinced 100% that it's my old sled.... Not looking to obtain it, my back couldn't handle riding it. Those old sleds rode like a hay wagon! Not as bad as the old early 60's Bombardier I started with though LOL Kinda cool to see it's still out there... I loved that thing.... It always started, no matter what!

I remembered my father bought a 1977 Arctic Cat Pentera F/C which the seat and gas tank size differ than your F/A version. And the engine housing differ because of the fan. I rode on it as a kid. I am 57 now. I still remember how it is like, the ride, the look, the sound. Truly a Catillac. I could not believe how pretty good shape this one was and how well stored away. I wish I could bought it! Oh well. Thanks for bringing this sled up and brought memories for me. Sure miss it. If I had the $$, for sure I would buy a collector's Pentera rather than the today's sleds. I am short, and that Pentera was right size for me because the new ones today are too big, too high, too heavy, and too wide for me.

Everything made in the past 15 years looks like some kind of galactic warrior machine, the sleds form the 70s-80s really did have tha "mopar personality" Simple and unassuming on the outside, and down to earth power and fun on the inside. I used to have the same sled. It was in excellent condition. I had it back in 83 or 84. I sold it and bought a Yamaha SS 440. I was only 13 or 14 when I had that Pantera. It was a great sled and I never had one issue with it except the one time I bent the front bumper rail when I slid off a trail and into a tree. Lol. That SS 440 I had was a fast machine for an early 80’s sled. I had a friend who rode with me on occasion on a Polaris Centurion 500. That was a rare sled and lifted the front end when you got on the throttle. 😎👍🏼

I'm currently trying to get a couple el tigres back to life. Just got some parts for the 88 el tigre 5000, next is the 77-79 6000, and I have a blizzard too that needs work

Nice honest sled! Reminds me of an old Blizzard 9500 I had back in the day. Sounds pretty similar too. This was a great find for a guy!

I know absolutely nothing about snowmobiles, but I was on hike last fall in Colorado and found a Scorpion whip sitting in the middle of nowhere. Must have broke down and the owner just left it

When I was a kid, my family had 4 new '76 Arctic Cats. My Dad had a Pantera, my older brother had an El Tigre, and we had TWO Jags for us younger boys to share. Great times.

That sled is one fine old gal, Let's say she's a good old ride from times gone by. Two pulls and she was away. amazing Derick.

Good buy and video, I happen to pull my (dad's) 77 Pantera out of the barn last week to get running again when I have time. Brought back memories of the sound of the engine and power (compared to the trail cat 340) and the how hard of a pull it is..

Hi, Derek, that ol' sled looks so good, I knew she'd fire up easy and run like a champ. Brings back memories of when I lived in Northern Michigan. We had Yamaha's, first 440 SS's, then Phaser's. It was nothing to put 1000 miles on the sleds in a season. Bring us more snowmobile and small engine content, God Bless and stay safe.

Brings back fond memories of our Pantera. That suzuki sounded like heaven to me. She had lots of power. My father had the 1986 liquid cooled Pantera. Enjoy it. The old girl looks like she runs great.

I used to use dryer sheets in my sled as well. It really helped keep the mice out of my '88 wildcat when stored in rural Wisconsin.

If the tunnel tag says 76, it's a 1977 model. That only matters though when ordering parts and when someone asks what year it is. GREAT VIDEO!!
