No, this brace is a pretty precision fit and fit perfectly in between the forks. I know it looks like it is putting a little force on the forks when I install it but really, it's not, it's just a very tight fit.
Really like your videos Herbie as always. I have similar issues with my bike. It must be a 1500 thing. Let us know how this works out please. Thanks again for all the excellent videos. Grant
Thank you Grant!! I have read from a few people that they have the same issue as well, I'm hoping that it can be fixed. After my ride yesterday I checked my tire air pressure again and it was too high, but pressure increases with heat so I will recheck it today and see what it is before I ride. I'll report if I find anything that helps including this brace. Thanks for the comment.
If this doesn’t fix the issue you may want to upgrade to a progressive rate spring in the front forks if you haven’t done so already… I did on my 99 and completely fixed EVERY ISSUE I had with handling and braking…with the progressive springs it raises the front end which creates much better stability at high speeds …not to mention the ride quality is 5000% better, damn thing rides like 2020 GL 1800..also I know it a stupid question but are you certain it’s not just the pavement ? Have you been able to replicate the symptoms on multiple surfaces?
Thank you for this! I just got back from a 200 mile ride with a couple of my friends and it did the wobble on different surfaces but only after 75mph, under that speed all was good. When I got home I checked to make sure forks were exactly the same into the trees and I found one side 1/8 difference, so I aligned them perfectly and raised it to the top of the trees which was about 1/4 inch. I also checked the air pressure and both were at zero so I put 5lbs of pressure into it. I haven’t tried it since I’ve done that but I’m hoping for improvement
@@herbiesgarage681 given what you’ve described I’ll bet my next paycheck your front end was sagging a bit…definitely brining the forks flush with the triple clamps will make a world of difference (if you front springs aren’t worn out) but like I said if you’re still having the wandering rear end issue believe me it’s the suspension and it’s worn
Did you do the rear springs as well or only the front? I’m slowly working on my 88 and these videos are amazing! Thank you Herbie and also thank you to the community for their contribution to making everyone else’s life easier! I just haven’t had to much luck finding videos on the progressive springs on any GL1500.
I installed the super brace on my 2000 GL1500 SE it made little noticable difference. I later purchased a blackwing fork brace and installed it. I got much better results. The blackwing fits much better and has greater contact with the fork tubes. More precision fit for sure. The super brace now sits in my tool box.
Thank you for that, I'll keep that in mind. I recently went on a long ride and had a lot of high speed, over 75mph wobble. So, when I got home, I measured with a digital caliper the amount of fork sticking out of the top of the triple tree. To my surprise, one side was quite a bit higher, so I set them exactly the same and slid the fork down almost 1/4 inch to make it flush with top of the trees. Also checked the air pressure in the fork and both were at zero, so I added 5psi to both forks. I haven't tried it yet but will tomorrow morning. I'm hoping that helps as well.
