Both of these women are so inspiring. I admire CozyByMadi for learning English later in life and being brave enough to speak it on this video. She did great btw! I also love how she has an optimistic attitude about it- as she mentions that her skill will only get better. I am currently trying to learn another language at 29 years old so at times it can be a challenge or I may be embarrassed to speak it with natives. She just gave me so much hope! 😊💛

I think bread and butter plates and knives are essential, along with butter dishes with a serving knife, one at least for every four diners. Also salt and pepper shakers, at least one set between each pair of diners, if not individual ones for each diner. I don’t always have enough matching sets for each diner, I keep forgetting to buy more, I’ll do that after the video.
I want to recommend a video idea. How should we invite some people for dinner in formal/casual setting? With rsvp, etc. I had seen a wedding with more formal than normal setting (from where I belong) on tiktok and curious about that

I just like to be sure my tables to have everything a diner might need or want. So, if in doubt, carefully think through how each course will be served and eaten, that’s the best way. I also like having all my serving pieces ready before, there always seems to be a last minute rush to find enough, or some are overlooked, otherwise.

Here in the US, the wine stemware is placed to the right of the water glass, which is just above the table knife. If there are several types, the first one (last used) can go slightly above the water glass, but still to the right, and the others evenly spaced in a fan to the right, closer to the diner. I’ve never seen them placed to the left of the water glass. One would have to reach over the plate for them in that position. I rarely see more than two wine glasses, sometimes three, probably because dessert wines aren’t very popular here. If a liqueur is served with coffee, the glasses for it are brought out with the coffee service.
It’s very beautiful … but the more important thing was not explained… how to eat in that kind of setting. The table is low. So should we bring the plate to us? Should bring to the mouth the fork? Which is going to travel a great distance. Please explain. Thank you!!! I love your videos. Xoxo 🌹
Very interesting question , I also would like to know answer to this question . Watching Jamila , I think that somewhere she said when drinking a drink with a straw you are not supposed to duck and drink while the glass is still on the table , instead you are supposed to take the glass and bring it to yourself . I ques that you are supposed to do the same at this setup .
Thank you for another lovely and educational video. Jamila, I have one question, all standard table setting guidelines are the way they are because it serves the majority. The majority is right-handed. I was wondering if there is a set of rules that one can/should apply if one knows that the dining guest is going to be left-handed?

Putting the dessert silverware above the plate is only for informal meals, like most of us give. My fanciest dinner parties are still informal, a formal one would be a diplomatic black-tie dinner, etc. In a formal meal, silver is brought out for the dessert course.
Thank you for creating the video on this topic. I also applaud you for supporting your local women intrapreneurs. However I find that the quality of this video is not as high as your previous work on RU-vid. Perhaps it could’ve benefited from more rehearsing, researching on the subject including correct vocabulary to use when describing tablesetting, for example utilize terms like table setting or table scape instead of table set up. Perhaps more editing as well would’ve been helpful. I can see that your friend tried really hard to be explicit and clear but due to language difficulties it was somewhat confusing. Also the camera work was not very helpful, for example we did not see details of dinnerware or flatware. I also find that especially the second setting was very contrived and the bohemian style could’ve been presented in a much more interesting and eclectic way as it supposed to be. I do hope you find this feedback helpful as I really enjoy your work overall!

Yes, you are right. It could that too. But I assume she served soup bowl on top of that plate (that would play the role of underplate) and then both the bowl and plate under would be removed together and next the main course would be served.

I have a question . If you set a table like this in your home , assuming that you don't have a person who would have a role of a waiter , how are you supposed to bring food and where to put it? There is no space for food especially in that Bohemian setup . Where I live we have special bowls for soup and plates for food that are put in front of the quests and people serve themselves. So in this setup are you supposed to bring a plate with food to quests or do you make enough space for the food to be put on the table?
I am sorry to say but this guest isn't so good in expressing her thoughts, nor is she clear. I've to struggle to try to understand her. She is too slow also.
