Today I speak with consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr Sohom Das. We discuss psychosis, his case studies, his time working in Broadmoor, and analyse Jimmy Savile. Dr Sohom has his own RU-vid channel for psychological analysis which you can find here: / apsychforsoreminds
He also has a booked, titled "In Two Minds" which you can purchase here: geni.us/InTwoM...
I found this conversation fascinating and I'd love to have Dr Sohom back on the channel for more, so make sure you subscribe to us and show him some support!

Oh also - my Aunt was in mental institutions her whole life and when people would mention Jimmy Saville to her she would get this haunted look on her face and say to them “you don’t go near that man. He’s a very bad man. Don’t go near him” but everyone brushed her off as just another “lunatic”. But she definitely knew what was going on. I don’t know if she was a victim or not but she definitely knew he wasn’t a good person.

Absolutely smashing it with the guests, some people with very interesting and important stories to tell. I love all the episodes even the chatty or silly ones with K or Rob, love the ones with Rachel Oates as well and the solo one but I know it must be difficult to organise the guests and stuff so just wanted to say that it’s very interesting

I am impressed with your questions. I was fascinated with his responses when he appeared to seem like the question about him had never or only rarely been asked. It was endearing, and I hope he remembers that getting mental health help probably won’t slow down his practice success. I bet if he asked other doctors in a similar position they would tell him that it may help slow down the chance of complete burn out. IE: essential. Take care of you. That goes for you both.

I work in this field ( adult mental health sometimes forensic) and hear difficult cases day in day out able to go home and compartmentalise. However there are occasional news reports that I find devastating. Always to do with little ones...Arthur Labinjo-Hughes had me welling up for weeks. I could never work in child social care where cruelty to children is main focus of the cases. You have to know your limits

I met Jimmy savile on a trip to the BBC when I was a child in the 1970's with my sister and an uncle who was a producer for the BBC we are both girls I was 9 and my sister was 7 and we met him in his dressing room after he had recorded a show and to be honest he was very pleasant to us both and I was aware my Aunty having her arms around both of us so maybe she thought he was someone to watch with two girls around. We both experienced aspects in our childhood that would be totally unacceptable now but not by this man.

This is super interesting! Loved listening to this. My mums dad had schizophrenia and had religious and grandiose delusions and was in Broadmoor and other mental institutions for most of his adult life after his son died in a house fire (that was technically his wife’s - my grandmother - fault since she left the kids home alone while she went out). A lot of this resonated with me and really enjoyed listening to the Drs information on psychosis etc

I started off doing learning disabilities but one placement in mental health convinced me that was where I should be. That was 85. I am still there in a different role but it's the most interesting for me bit of being an NHS slave

'Services overstretched' with NHS staff performing very bad song and dance routines for us on RU-vid whilst they refused to treat Sars Covid and anyone else??? I have a PhD in dementia and working with cognitively damaged people right throughout the social reaction to Sars C 19 and although many were in locked institutions, depression was charted for the first time ever in their case notes....and yet they didn't really get out much or many visits but Sars devastated their mental health by stopping all their services. They turned into themselves and gave up. It was distressing to watch. And cruel to watch their physical wounds going septic because the NHS said 'these people are not our priority' and wouldn't come in to do their job because they didn't like them anyway....possibly needed to practice their childish dance routines for the taxpayers. But l am not paid by the NHS so l am free to say that.

He talks of psychosis. I am thinking, is this what he's taught? Just wondering because much of it comes from Freud. I am interested in Carl Jung. Jung was very different to Freud.

I remeber back in 7th grade I use to run home. After school to catchbcoldcase files.american justice and rap city the basement.and would go to sleep watching ..forensic files....so there's really not a case I haven't heard off....you know RU-vid is basicly wash rinse repeat.

are we drawn to crime topics because we see something of ourselves in these criminals or we watch to see if we are capable of bad things ?

If you are not religious you don't have religious delusions. You may think it's the fbi cia etc speaking to you. Your mind makes sense of the situation.
