This guy definitely has CTe, I love how all these non athletes question him with their smug looks having never I mean never taken a hard hit once in their life to know what it's like, the after effects
Far and away the toughest position in team sports. Most people simply don't understand the running back position and how dangerous it really is. Even if you don't touch the football.
I’ve not been diagnosed with a concussion. But after years of contact sports I’m convinced I’ve powered through concussions for years. Not good. You want to think your invincible but it’s denial.
I wasn’t a football player and I have CTE from riding Bucking Bulls. I rode bulls professionally and in College. I’ve had so many concussions I don’t even know how many I’ve had. I’m 46 now and can’t remember day to day things but I can tell you exactly what I did when I was a kid. I think a lot about suicide and the anxiety I get if I leave my home is overwhelming. I can’t get any help cause there isn’t anyone that helps with this cause it’s so new I guess. I know I need help but I don’t have insurance and no one will see me. Tried to get disability and was denied of course. I’m 46 years old and can’t get any help. I’m physically ok so people think that I’m ok but I’m far from okay. I’ve lost all hope. I don’t even know what to do my family my friends no one has anything to do with me cause they all think I’m crazy. I’m not freaking crazy my brain just doesn’t work right. Well at least that’s what I think. College Athlete and I can’t get anyone to help me because I went in the mid 90’s. My wife left me in 2012 and my dog of 20 years died 3 years ago and I feel I don’t have any purpose anymore. I can’t explain how this has ruined my life. I feel for anyone that has this problem. It’s real. My last accident was in 2010 and it crushed my face and split my skull. I don’t have insurance so no doctors will see me. I’m at a loss and am about ready to give this fight up.
Yeah guys you tube don’t tell me when I have messages. I just now saw this. Yeah guys Thankyou for asking. I’m doing ok. As long as I don’t have to leave home for long. I can’t go to stores hardly at all anymore. I only talk to a handful of people. I can’t explain it to anyone that’s what is so frustrating. No one understands. Hell doctors don’t know anything about this so I can’t get proper help. Been turned down for disability cause they don’t know anything about it. It’s crazy.
@@brianwilliams2087 they don't know anything about...CTE? HOW? I'm not from the states so I'm not sure whether u can switch doctors there? Or maybe try seeing a therapist? Have you spoken with other former football players about what you are going through? At least they might understand your situation a bit. Cheers.
@@koffz-nl2118 this is first time I’ve ever spoken out to anyone. I don’t have insurance so nobody will see me. My family doesn’t understand what CTE is. They think that I can walk and talk I’m okay. Move along nothing to see here. Get a job go to work. Well when you can’t leave your house it’s hard to hold a job. Hell it’s hard to eat cause you don’t wanna go to the grocery store. I can’t explain it. I used to be life of the party. Can’t stand to talk to a real person more than a few minutes
@@brianwilliams2087 Bro I hope you are doing well man this is really sad to hear. Stay strong and pushing on because I believe there is a way you can defeat. Have you tried to research ways to deal with anxiety? Also, have you tried seeing a therapist?
The fact that you cannot know if someone has CTE while the person is alive is very sad for people who would do their means to change their life to prevent it from getting worse
Omg i can only imagine what you‘re going though. So sorry to hear that. I leaned that berries and fish and green vegetables are supposed to be good against memory loss.
Good choice. I'm thirty years old and even after a over decade of MMA and boxing, I'm still in better shape than my friends who played elementary through college.
@@NotKimiRaikkonen every sport does some damage to some part of the body in some way. Baseball get bad elbows, knees, shoulders Golfers get bad hips and elbows Basketball get bad knees and ankles Mma have you seen their ears? Boxers get brain damage Football get brain damage
He's literally running through the motions of all CTE players, what saddens me about this condition the most is how it changes peoples personality, impulses, mood and behaviour. Look at how many CTE sufferers who were never violent turn violent, abusive or in the most extreme cases like Chris Benoit who killed his own family or Philip adams who killed 6 people at random or that NFL player they mentioned in this video who had one of the worst cases seen yet who was in prision for murder and killed himself. Absolutely terrifying to think that it can change non psychopathic people who were non violent before they suffered CTE to commit heinous acts of violence. Imagine that, if due to brain trauma you, myself or a loved one could be capable of murder. Of course, not everyone that has CTE will become violent but I am just saying that it seems to be highly correlated with CTE and our brain is amazing how it can regulate anger and regulate impulsivity which is extremely important to maintain!
What an awful segment. "Why do you believe you have cte" "Johnson is convinced he has cte" "have you had a concussion?" It's impossible for him not to have CTE given his career. There's no question about it. You don't need to get a concussion to get CTE.
livelyupmyself1 99% of all people who participate in contact sports of any kind will develop CTE to some degree. All professional football players, MMA fighters, boxers and wrestlers have it, its inevitable. I suggest you look up the cases of Gary Goodridge, Chris Benoit, Aaron Hernandez and Todd Ewen.
@@MrYummyBear bro I’m sorry. No matter what people say that’s fuckin bullshit. I started in 3rd grade and my shits messed up. there no way I knew how to hit. It’s not as gruesome. There’s less impact because of the distance between lineman. Running full speed into someone running full speed is a bigger impact imo.
I had 2 awful concussions when I was 16, then again at 18 from football. I played f I’m age 7-18. Now I’m in my 30’s and I forget things all the time. Never used too. It’s awful.
Bro I Fr had to go to the hospital for the exact reason bc my head was hurting and I had alout of anxiety it made it hard to breath and I was their but I wasn’t their fully I would forget almost anything within 10 minutes it honestly felt like a bad trip and I didn’t want to live with it that’s how bad it was I finally understand how serious it is and why people act this way
The doctors can’t say my son has it, but he has all the symptoms. The dementia is the worst. He also has not played sports. He has epilepsy and has concussions from seizures.
I'm amazed at the level of loyalty to football even in the face of CTE and aftermath effects. This is sad...it's a lack of human empathy for oneself. To say. You'd do it again knowing what you know. Wow. It's all about money and capatilism. Homicidal entertainment in exchange for what? This is sad
I got it too Larry. I'm 73 and played real good high school ball. The refs broke a lot of ammonia capsules under my nose to get me up, so much so that the teams coaches put an old leather helmet on me to soften the shock and had doctor care for my double vision. broken bones that healed out of line too. Many many other concussions all my life and extreme exposure to chemicals in industry while just making a living. Lots of street drugs too. Doctors diagnosed me with Parkensens at 50 but worked 2 jobs just the same. Married 52 years, poor wife, we have 5 kids, all highly successful thank God, and crazier than ever but not yet institutionalized. Anxiety, whatever it is, thru the roof, anger that must be masked, sleepless nights, no friends, shunned, but still riding the crest of the wave. Love the Ramones, de de sings "Bad Brain" and I know what he went thru. Lately its like walking a tight rope just to get thru the next day but gonna haveta die with my boots on because no one will ever know what CTE is unless (God forbid) they suffer it.
You’re a strong man to have pushed through everything that has been thrown at you for that long of a time, and you should be proud of that. You should look into cerebrolysin. Its one of the only things out there that can make even a noticeable bit of a difference in repairing the brain.
You the man LJ thank you for speaking up as much as I love the NFL we all know the owners have known about this since the 90’s and have done their best to keep this issue quiet in order to protect the brand #FootballPlayersLivesMatters
I understand what he is talking about I believe i’m suffering from some early cte or post concussive symptoms. played since I was 9 year old and in college
Bennett Omalu... The doctor that discovered cte, the guy that Will Smith played in the movie 'Concussion' said...that he'd bet his entire career that O.J. Simpson has cte. Misplaced aggression and abuse towards their loved ones is a very common symptom of every football player who's died and diagnosed with the disease.
I played football all the way from little league thru Junior College and I show all the symptoms of CTE. Had many concussions, now it's difficult to even function and take care of myself. IMO, CTE leads to mental health issues, I'm proof of that...
Ann McKee has had her research taken apart since its been looked at by other professionals. She also says you can't use my study as fact. People that have never played football have been found with CTE in autopsies for studies.
Not because of football or anything but I feel like I'm living with CTE because of constant brain trauma over my lifetime. I'm 36 and have been living with seizures the whole time. I've never been diagnosed with a concussion but I'm pretty damn sure that I've had a few
@I'm larger than that n**** Steven Segal No, no. I meant when they lose it at home, it's always on the wives or girlfriends. I never hear about them going off on a male family member or male stranger.
I'm also Indian living with cte symptoms I also need help...I also concussed 4-5 times ...plese share ur contact number .....plese find the cure of this dieses ..at least slow the progression ......share ur contact number vivek ...
I'm so glad this injury was discovered for those who experience repetitive brain trauma like professional football player. Hopefully the medical field will find ways and treatment s that will give those suffering from CTE a better quality of life.
Played football from 7 to senior year in highschool. On medical record, i have 11 concussions. Not including outside of football, i had two head injuries within 4 months apart. One of those i had an egg the size of an orange on the back of my head. Still have a tiny egg. Fast foward to 21 and i am suffering. My behavior is not what it used to be. I used to be relaxed, cool calm and collected.Even my fiancee is noticing that im not the same man i used to be. My mood swings at least twice a day. I can wake up happy and an hour later im crying. Last year i took a job and its 12hr shifts only 3-4 days a week and really good pay. But im still not happy, and thats not normal. I had motivation to get this job but around the time of hiring i hit a slump and got dark. Ever since i havent been the same. These past 4 months have been the hardest. The only thing thats made me make it this far is weed. But i cant be high all the time due to my job and well, i dont have a medical card. It is legal recreationally but still need a card to go to a dispensary. I am scheduling to see a therapist because this is getting out of control. And i can only tell my fiancee im sorry so many times before she has enough of me and leaves. Its been rough and I hope someone out there reads this and can relate somehow. If anything talk and maybe we have some things in common with this. Im not saying i have cte, but im not ruling it out either.
Forgot to add that I never had an issue with big crowds or even like the Walmart in town but i get massive anxiety attacks. Used to be spaced out but now its more frequently.
@@xXAmightzXx I have seen someone since then and have been put on 100mg Zoloft to help with my anxiety, I do smoke pot to help my headaches. The fact that these people say they'd continue dispite the brain damage shows how injured they are. The only resolution is disbandment of all contact sport--and that ain't going to happen. The repercussions are now evident so it's now on the participants.

I think you've missed the entire point. The brain is damaged in such a way that impulse control is severely impaired. Self control can disappear. It's not an illness of lack of willpower. The person can't control the suicidal thoughts and fits of rage.

I have anxiety, and I don’t even have the worst anxiety. Anxiety and stress can cause all of these same symptoms he’s talking about. Headaches, sensitivity to light, forgetfulness
I started playing tackle football at around 11 then stopped during middle school where I played flag. When I got to high school I was already 5’10 185lbs so my frosh yr I played jv then varsity for the next 3 yrs. I have had so many concussions I can’t even count them… but it’s my fault I used my head a lot, I could’ve tried to wrap the legs instead but many times it was unavoidable.. anyways, many times I’ve had concussions coaches just sat us out 1 or 2 plays till the stars went away and we were back in for more.. One day at practice during Oklahoma drill I tackled someone and hit my head on his shoulder pad, I walked to the side immediately started seeing stars and then I couldn’t see, heart beating heavily and slow, took a knee then face planted and had a convulsion.. went to the doctor and they discovered I had a heart disease in which sudden death is a possibility aside from the severe concussion. So no more football for me after that.. I was in depression for more than an year since I couldn’t fulfill my dreams and I had lost my D1 scholarship. I’m now 25 and sometimes struggle to articulate sentences or find the right words. I forget a lot of things, many of them are just simple stuff someone’s not supposed to forget and I get mood swings but I can block them off for the most part. I get dizzy and see stars if I move too quick especially vertically but that might have something to do with my heart.. I just hope things don’t get worse as I get older.
Hang in there homie .. I hv a cousin that played fullback at a D1 school and three years in the NFL .. he also says he had countless concussions over the years .. he suffers a lot now .. what you just described is almost identical to what he says he experiences .. I’ve witnessed how rough it is .. respect
@@mtsestudos7145 feeling better now honestly, I started exercising frequently and has helped a ton, also my cardiologist ruled out my heart issues and called it a normal case of athletes heart.. but I feel like I’m still vulnerable to head injuries. I also had an Achilles rupture shortly after my original comment and that sucked but now I’m back to sports!
Rugby players in UK, Europe and Australia tackle each other at the legs or waist therefore dont need helmets and shoulder pads and dont usually get knocked out or given CTE
CTE can only be diagnosed after death (although symptoms prior to death give a strong indication that it likely may be present). The brain imaging centre at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently developing a clinical test to aid in early diagnosis that would allow new drugs to be developed. Injecting a patient with a radioactive "tracer" and then doing a brain PET scan is being done and the results have been encouraging so far.
Spiderman My dad-in-law has had a doctor project stage 3-4 cte recently. He's never been violent beyond slamming cupboards but watching him deteriorate in other ways over the years has been heartbreaking, and he played prior to the million dollar contracts brought in in the 70's, so he wasn't even compensated for what the sport has done to his body and brain.
nah people didn’t know football literally gave you permanent degenerative brain damage. can’t dismiss that as “that’s how it’s always been.” how do you know he isn’t saying to himself he was wrong for that. CTE and erratic behavior go hand in hand. all i’m saying is there’s nothing wrong with looking at things from both sides.
He’s a real one tho. He’s had integrity and told everyone how the NFL is rigid and scripted. I respect him for that since all these other players to scared to expose the NFL aka WWE lol
That is true. But is also the must uneducated answer I see in the comment section. It is voluntary but you are not told that when you get a ding to sit out back in the '80s because it may harm you brain in the future. Do you believe boxers like Ali, Foreman, Frazier and Norton would have stood in the till they almost died at times if they knew what it would have done to their quality of life? NO! What happens to your brain causes rage, confusion, depression, loneliness even when your family is their. I know, so don't disrespect these men and women about something you know nothing about because we do love our families we just don't know how to express it. This disease also cause many other problems with your body that you have no idea about. GOD BLESS YOU ALL WHO FEEL THIS WAY
@@kurtusdoss5965 It is due to the fact every sport you participate in is voluntary, but until recently we had no idea of the affects the constant hitting caused. Most damaging hits occur in practice not the game.

footba11fan41ife With all due respect. I played football from 7th grade all the way through my senior year in college. I played back in the mid nineties when ice, dirt, rest and a whole lot of suck it up kid were in full effect. I played linebacker and D end until I got to college and I was a human battering ram playing fullback. I have had more hits to my head then I care to remember. I have never beat my wife, kids, or flipped out on coaches. I fully understand about CTE, however you need to understand that we are in the infancy of the research. LJ and guys like Aaron Hernandez were bad seeds and made incredibly poor choices going all the way back to child hood. I'm tired of hearing these piss poor excuses for bad behavior. CTE could be a factor, but the individuals mind set and personality play a larger role.
Hudson Haverford you might be right but you might be wrong. I played ball since I was 9 years old and in college and definitely feel like i’m suffering from some post concussive symptoms. fullback is a brutal position back when they were used. all i’m saying is brain injuries probably effect everyone differently from one person to the next. brain injuries are more complex than we can even imagine. good thing you don’t feel any of the harsh effects. god bless
footba11fan41ife Oh, I never said I didn't feel the effects. I have balance issues, short term memory loss, and moments of anger. But I take it out on the punching bag and go to meditative yoga; not out on the people around me.
Hudson Haverford having a outlet like a heavy bag is smart when us ball players have been taught be violent as possible from the game and meditation sure is a good option stay up
I really don't understand, this people played this game since they were young, after making millions, they blame the game, they know the game was dangerous why sing up for it..
Most don’t. The nfl has gone out the way to give misinformation and paid millions to hide cte in football. Up until recently they were treating concussions with pain killers and smelling salts. Little kids in Texas are being literally taught that football is life.
