this whole problem can be solved by making them wear cameras THEY CANT SHUT OFF while in service. We are giving the police too much to do, sometime they have to be police men and sometimes they have to be soldiers depending on the situation and who they are handling. There was a reason why the military would not police but with the amount of violence on our streets we have to start realizing that they are becoming war zones, we cant expect a cop to switch from warrior mode to police mode like a machine. Violent organization that willfully kill civilians ARE DOMESTIC ENEMIES. we should have a military company active near violent cities and create procedures that will both safeguard rights and deal with this threat, we are loosing this war on drugs and it is mainly because they are the ones doing most of the killing. they recruit from our schools, have hierarchy, and have the community scared so bad everyone carries guns, how can they not be considered terrorist, because they are americans? if it was up to me the mandate for the military would be at least to find the weapon that did the murder. if we cant put them in jail because at this pace the whole community will be taken over. This system hasnt been working for over 30 years and is getting worse, policing did not work for mexico and it will not work for us either, we are fighting a war with both hands tied, we keep militarizing the police and putting our own citizens at risk. for fucks sake we have infants dying to shootings and we still on the same idiotic plan.
lol legalize? we did the and now have the opioid crisis. not all drugs are "weed", some will get them really addicted to the point they start robbing people, then with the public healthcare we will also pay for the damage the drug caused and thats just the tip of the problem. trust me you dont want anyone on meth anywhere near machinery nor can you trust them. addiction changes a man to the point they become unrecognizable to whom they were before.
yea thats nice and fine until you are a junky in the street asking people for help, asking the government for aid just because you cant handle your own body. Why do we have an opioid crisis? because most junkies always end up as broke beggars. take away welfare and medicare and medicaid, take away the right to have children, since you will be an unfit parent then tell me you have the right because rights are written on paper by the people, not by your own singular delusion. A democracy of junkies is no democracy but a mob of dumb zombie like people. for a society to function properly we all need to handle our own duty towards said society. there are plenty of tribes that have "legalized" drugs, where the society structure dont require you to have a well functioning mind, go live there. If your argument made sense, drunk/high driving should also be legal since is "your body". grow up.
Lets try teaching Law in school in the same manner in which we teach Math or Science. Lets begin at second grade. Being a nation of Laws, it only makes sense to instill the basic , fundamental principles of this science in the earliest stages in child development. This produces an equal level of responsibility between the Law Abiding citizen, who lives in the community and the Law enforcement agent, who protects that community. If one thinks about it this should be the "common core.'
Thank you, Dr. Cobb, that was wonderfully expressed. Yes, ethics would indeed be a necessary and important element in any society built around principles of law. However, should we focus more on the respect of law rather than obedience? Instead of us viewing laws as "...often wrong," we should strive to ensure that those who are entrusted with the authority to create our laws are well grounded with a strong sense of morality as well as, an understanding that laws are tools that help in the development of society, not concrete blocks nor iron chains which would certainly lead to improper application and blind obedience as you are clearly aware. Finally, I would just add one additional point. Any well informed and intelligent society would approach the evolution of law in a peaceful and non-violent manner, we must, as mature adults never fool ourselves into believing that the "corrupt and ignorant" in all instances will "go peacefully into the night."
This was really enjoyable and I didn't expect it to be. I would suggest an idea though, evaluate base on interviews of people in the neighborhood and their interactions with police. The reason being if you evaluate an officer based on the amount of crime in an area it would put the police of certain bad area at a disadvantage to the police working in a rich neighborhood where people don't need to commit blue collar crimes to pay the bills. I do believe the man said we need a real Hampsterdam.
Incredible insight on how to correctly police. What is so intriguing is that it isn't a new idea. Yet it presents itself as the best method of policing. Not because it sounds right but because it has a proven history here in America. What is even more satisfying to know is that many nations around the world see our current policing in America as hostile and cruel to those they are suppose to serve and protect. Many nations around the world have remained two or three steps ahead of us when it comes to understanding the real purpose of policing. But luckily for us we still have people like Mr. Neil Franklin trying their best to get us there once and for all times.
