Using his own plane, not taxpayers, which he acquired running his own successful businesses not government grants while providing thousands of American jobs. Playing golf at his own resorts at his own expense with his own money, not taxpayers. And during his FIRST hole at playing golf accomplishes more Making America Great Again then the Democrats have done in the past 100 years. I'm on the left of the middle and I have to say enjoy listening to Steve Schmidt. His "The Warning" is excellent. I may not agree with all his politics but it's clear he loves our democracy and constitution , which I can't say for many other republicans. Highly recommend it.

The Republican party has always been a weird Chimera - There is this very strident reformist strain in the party going back to Teddy Roosevelt and it's mixed in with all these traditionalists, the kind of people who are most likely to turn sour on reforms. it's sort of amazing that it ever worked before when you think about it.

Well, I have always liked Steve, and have rarely agreed with hard core liberals, but today I will vote for Democrats until the Republican party is reformed or destroyed. That last question turned out to be very powerful. Steve's response was exactly what the Democrats need to hear. Recounting and reciting facts does not constitute effective political speech. The point you want to make has to hit the heart. It has to have an emotional impact, and not just on your fan club.

I used to be conservative in the 2000's but today I always end up with this argument. Apparently its OK to leak classified documents as long as Putin benefits directly from the information. Wait this type of stuff that Trump is accused of doing would have made Trump a person of interest on the Terrorist Watch list back when George W Bush was President.

Steve is amazing his new youtube show is great! I could listen to steve talk about history all night. Mass had a democratic house and senate but a republican governor i was proud to vote for TWICE because he did what was best for the citizens he stayed above the fray.
I stumbled onto this today and was about to leave because of my knee jerk reaction to the term 'Republican' but when Steve said he founded the Lincoln Project - I stayed, and watched, and listened carefully, because I respect this man. I may not completely agree with him but I totally respect him as someone who is rational, respectful and responsible for making sure he speaks the truth. I totally appreciate the candor, the very wise and thoughtful discussion and the explanations provided by Steve about what's going on with why is this insanity still going on - A massive communication deficit. More so, it's one of the biggest reasons I still stay in the middle because the Democrats are too nice - instead of taking on this - they squirrel their remarks in politeness and properness. Freedom is a complicated thing. It has a nasty way of getting in conflict with another freedom. So, saying that you are all 'for freedom' is a shallow talking point. EVERYONE loves freedom. The question is, what freedom is more important between two 'freedoms' that clash one with another. And that question can't be solved with empty platitudes about how great 'freedom' is.
There is a broad difference between a fiscal conservative and a social conservative (most gone all the way to regressive). They get grouped together but we should stop. Put all the social progressives on one side, and social conservatives (regressives) on the other side. And win a super majority based on preserving social progress. THEN we can have a discussion about conservative fiscal policy vs infrastructure spending like rational humans. We need to stop labeling everyone "conservatives" because we alienate rational fiscal conservatives and do not invite them to vote Democrat for a term or two.

Very good and thoughtful comments from Steve. I support his Lincoln Project efforts. Integrity and empathy are the first two qualities I look for in a leader. One that has been settled, then we can have policy discussions. I should be a Republican by historic standards, but it will be a long time before I vote for a Republican again.
