Patrick seemed to wear his (only) high school education as a badge of honor. We should have no problem with that. It just felt like he hadn’t progressed much from there. David had SO much patience with Patrick and kept his cool. He just kept positive and let his truth be known, knowing that people like me will get his points even if I have to rewind and think a bit about what is being said.

His interviews with reza and tyson were pretty bad at certain points as well. For example when he claims Florida handled covid better than most states because the NBA held their season there, but ignores hospitalizations rates or any other data relevant to public health response during a pandemic.

The 325 million dollar raft (that sunk) they built in Gaza is a perfect example of government spending. There are countless examples of over taxing, and seeing no results. Growth > interest cost means it may make sense. The issue is debt as a % of GDP continues to go up. This means paying down debt without liquidating the equity in the economy becomes hard over time. In the US debt as a % is increasing. Which means output growth in the economy is growing slower than the debt base. And it’s over 100%.

And don’t get me started on the generalizations. Pakman neatly divides Trump supporters into four camps, like he's sorting M&Ms by color. Newsflash: people are complex. They’re not just lining up behind Trump because of a single soundbite they liked. So, if Pakman’s critique of Bet-David is a rollercoaster, it’s one with some thrilling drops and a few loops that don’t quite land.

Patrick might have said that in a sarcastic way because sometimes David comes off as an Elitist , or can talk condescending to people (although he has every right because he is well read and knowledgeable), however - in this context with Patrick , David was not able to have a normal down to earth conversation with someone who is not well verse in Politics as he is. I dont think it was so much a "gotcha" as it was clarifying what Davids points and views were. It also showed his real life knowledge.

Basic follow up questions were met with aggression and anecdotes instead of factual rebuttals.

David was calm the entire interview, and I could tell the other guys were getting frustrated because they were having trouble grasping some of the concepts he was educating them on because the right-wing narrative is so heavily focused on "gov't debt bad cause liberal spending out of control!!". That sort of narrative doesn't leave a lot of nuance to understand a more wholistic view of maintaining a healthy economy.

I agree, I never heard of PBE previously, even though it was frustrating at times, I would say now a fan of PBE in general. They need to to this more, in my opinion. These kind of long form debates that have a casual atmosphere are completely missing from cable news, which is a huge missed opportunity. Best case if these are done regularly they can attract huge swaths from the right and left and impart primarily how to healthily disagree to viewers and constructively move forward. But that is something that will be a side product of a meaningful conversation.

Not to mention how to think through hotbutton issues to arrive at logical conclusions.

PBD was downright dispectful for a lot of the interview and Pakman handled it extremely well. PBD is used to his smooth ways winning arguments for him. Pakman doesn't play that crap and comes with data which PBD claims he's all about, but is actually all about feels and conspiracies. I've watched a lot of his stuff lately and he'd be cool if he dropped the Trump and conspiracy stuff. I'm sure the conspiracy and Trump stuff are what bring him views though so he'll keep banging that drum til the well runs dry 😒

He asked PBD which one he was unhappy with, PBD said any of them, then David switched the wording around asked that he must be against all of them, when PBD didn't even say that. He just said he was not happy with them, not against them. This is the problem with people today, specifically with people on the left. PBD had a VERY rough time following the conversation.

Patrick’s book is literally called “Your Next Five Moves.” You nailed it on the head. I read the book too… he has a section in the book where he hypes himself on preparing for a negotiation. So yes.. he was already trying to out word chess David even though Pakman was just trying to have a conversation.
