One of the most legendary but gone ballfields in the Midwest first opened in 1923 and hosted several teams and events until it was demolished in 1976. The stadium would grow and increase capacity over the years, to meet with league standards. The Municipal Stadium (which went by three other names) was the home of Negro League baseball teams, as well as the Kansas City Athletics and Royals baseball teams. Also, two National Football League teams: the Kansas City Blues/Cowboys in the 1920s and the Kansas City Chiefs from 1963 to 1971. Several events took place at the stadium, which I mention throughout the video.
Today, the site is a greenspace, as well as continued residential development. I visit Monarch Plaza at the southeast corner (Brooklyn & 22nd Street) where several historical markers were placed. They all tell the history of the ballfield, as well as the players that made it happen.

RIP Otis Taylor. Mr. Taylor wrote a book called "The Need to Win". In it, he talked very fondly of Municipal Stadium and how many of the Chiefs missed the stadium after the move to Arrowhead Stadium in 1972. He said the artificial turf at Arrowhead caused many injuries to the players (compared to the natural grass at Municipal Stadium). He also said the atmosphere was lost in the cavernous Arrowhead compared to the neighborhood that surrounded Municipal Stadium.

Great video, really do love the segments related to the old but not forgotten ballparks.

It is nice that they did not throw in a Wal-Mart there and left some historic status and info

That's what happened to the site of the old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota where the Vikings used to play. It's now the site of a parking lot for an IKEA store in the Mall of America Complex

I filmed there last year, but haven’t gotten the footage edited together, yet. I thought it was a nice remembrance of the former stadium that was located there

The city or whoever owned it did the right thing in turning it what it is today. Wonder what it would be like living in a house that once stood there!
