As a game developer, I can say that trying to prevent people like Josh from doing stuff like this is a bad idea, and the Raft devs clearly know this. You're far better off writing a game that will just deal with whatever the player throws at it because you never ever know how a player will approach it and what you want is for every player's style to be valid. This is doubly true in open ended games like this that thrive off of player expression. So I wouldn't say that the game wasn't properly tested, or that it should somehow prevent him from stringing up tons of ziplines; I would say that it was properly implemented, even if it was never tested for this particular scenario, insofar as it allows him to do this without buckling under the strain or crashing outright. And for that reason it succeeds. Note that standard testing methods are still important for games, but the focus isn't so much in ensuring that the user is properly constrained to the limits of the program, but that the program responds well to having its limits pushed by the user.
@Krakenfall
@Krakenfall Год назад
That's a good point! I was partially alluding to that with my comment about the developers having designed the game to withstand the many zipline system. I guess I'm coming from the perspective that the game lacks polish because of the many janky scenarios that a user will definitely experience that have huge bugs in them (such as the unloading island bug). I do want to make it clear that I love Raft the way it is and I'm not making this point to be negative - it's just the way it is. To your point, it's a testament to Redbeet Interactive's work that the game doesn't buckle under LGIO's testing. Raft is fantastic!
@Krakenfall
@Krakenfall Год назад
One thing I didn't talk about is the age-old compromise between quality, money, and time. Redbeet Interactive clearly doesn't have unlimited resources, so I agree with you that they successfully implemented the game for the extreme majority of players. I think you've convinced me - in the video, I was advocating testing for testing's sake, a fatal flaw of a tester 😂

That software testing thing is basically his entire channel. He is basically the most chaotic game tester in existence. One of his favorite games is "Is there a Limit?". There is a game called Hydroneer where he basically got into an arms race with the developer. LGiO figured out how to break the shops stealing and the developer fixed it, only for him to find a new method. There in fact was even an easter egg added to to game that was a wanted poster for him by the shops. I don't own the game so I don't know if it is still in the full release.

21:57 This is NOT boring! This is what I'm here for! I wanted to hear a software tester talk about the shenanigans!

Bruce is a joke from jaws, cause that's what they called the mechanical shark, it broke down, didnt work, and was all round temperamental and it was named after Spielberg's lawyer. I named the shark bruce also because of it 😂

I know you're not a reaction channel but I really enjoyed watching this. I hope sometime in the future you might check out his satisfactory work, but either way, good stuff. Keep on keepin on!

I think he calls it a golf ball full of Seattle because of that spire in the middle, that's vaguely reminiscent of the Space Needle.

Yes, the sharks official name is indeed Bruce, as named by the developers.

I would love for you to see his videos on Satisfactory, and his Astroneer video. Also, Josh's 'I'm going to enter every combination to this keypad. In order.' is absolutely a coding type of thing.

The Hydroneer series (if watch in order) is genuinely some of the best showcases of his insanity & limit breaking

Legend has it that Anthony was the last limiter the dark priests needed to remove to release Josh's full potential for more chaotic destruction. Thus when he left, they completed the ritual.

Personally, I expand my early raft build with half foundations, so when bruce, karl, and/or grace, decides to chew it. I can either just ignore and replace (cost 1/1 plank plastic) or break it with stone axe and get 1/1 plank plastic back and just build again.

I have a dream to build a game and have Josh (LGIO) break it or clip through the world and have an easter egg just for him like "what are you doing here Josh? get down."

he chose Seattle because the tower at the center, with its massive circular bit at the top, looks like the Space Needle. Fellow Washingtonian here, btw.
