If you take the decaping pin and sand half of an inch above the pin and take off a couple thousand off the diameter it should keep the neck from sticking to it where it is up in the die body where it forms the neck of the case. Just a thought
@cw2a

The expander ball diameter determines proper neck tension. Not a good idea to change its dia like that.

Nice CW. Love that lil 22tcm pocket rocket! I bought a case of primed nickel plated cases from them years ago, right at the start of Ammogeddon #2. Someday I will load em. I have plenty of powder I just need projectiles. The factory hasn't had them on the website for sale in years. They came in their Armscor ammo labeled bags and they were $6.99 a hundred IFIRC. I just keep checking hopefully they start getting them on the website someday. I figure if it got too bad and I needed them I would check into a 40gr .22cal mold. I did pick up 1 box of Hornady .22cal 40gr just to experiment.

LEE them selves advertises there dies NOT be used for forming in some calibers. But it can work as you have seen.
@314299
@314299 Год назад
That was an interesting video. I was thinking about why you might be having such an issue with the decapping rod pulling out. While you are putting some lube inside the case I doubt it is getting near the portion of the case that contacts the expanding button on the rod when the cases are pulled out. I expect becasuse of this the cases are basically getting dragged dry over the expander button, greatly increasing the pulling force on the rod. You might want to try putting some case lube on a "Q-tip" and getting it on the case a bit further down. Another couple of tricks regarding decapping rods of the Lee type - degrease the rod and contacting surface of the nut with break clean to increase friction, even trace amounts of oil will increase slipping. Finally you might want to try rolling the decapping rod between two files to roughen the surface up, that can help them hold better. Anyway just some thoughts. Cheers!
@cw2a
@cw2a Год назад
Yes sir! I previously cleaned and lubed dies off camera. Should have specified better. But spot on I agree as after a few thru it worked better. Also, cleaning brass first would have helped.

Is annealing a must before necking down? If de-capping pin removed would it allow forming without the fire (annealing)? Or is that a “try it & find out question”?
@cw2a
@cw2a Год назад
Good morning! I anneal AFTER when necking up & BEFORE when necking down. As long as Im starting with new or once fired brass. Too soft can cause addition issues necking up. More important than decap pin removal of entire decap stem with pin is excellent point. If it has a expander ball it can cause issues too.
