Forrest Gump was so full of life lessons and a little bit of history lesson too :) While editing for this reaction, it was more obvious that Jenny did love Gump from the beginning but she knew that she can't be with him...

All the whole movie is turned on it's head by that line "Is he smart or is he like me." Throughout the movie we're lead to believe that Forrest *doesn't* know he's not as smart as other people...that in his "dumbness" there is a childlike innocence and that's why everything just flows off his back, and it's only right *then* do we realize that he's known *the entire time* and *still* lead his life with kindness and compassion in the face of horrible abuse from so many people.

Jenny's problem is how she was used and abused, 1st by her father, then by every man she met except Forrest. She felt like she was worth nothing and was never going to be worth anything and would just bring Forrest down with her , she had no idea how to love anyone. It wasn't until she had little Forrest and was give one pure good thing in her life she was able to find her self worth to a point and then accepted that she loved Forrest and always had and it was OK to love someone and not expect them to hurt her. It is very complicated and you get snippets of it in every scene she is in. The first thing you see is all she knows how to do is run from anything as she keeps telling Forrest to do , she doesn't know any other way to deal with the pain and bad and it takes her so long to finally figure it out ( unfortunately this is true for too many and some never get to figure anything out) , Jenny deserves pity not hate , she didn't know how to love until it was too late but she gave Forrest 2 gifts before she left, true love and what it feels like , and someone to love and give his life meaning in Forrest Jr. . Forrest might not be a genius but I would lay any bet he is an incredibly loving and good father.

quite exactly! i am confused if the little forrest was his kid, but to be honest i dont really care.. i know Forrest will take care of him as his own. Jenny was the only friend Forrest had.. he couldn't give up on her no matter what.. due to his lack sense of judgemental mindset.. he gave her the most innocent and pure love she could have.. she didn't think she deserved it.. her life was too messed up.. in the end she did the right thing

Great reaction, I love the way y'all got Jenny,not most people do They seem to forget that she was abused and molested by her father and that skewed her whole out look as far as love was concerned, she told Forrest that he didn't know what love was but it was she who didn't understand so she chose the wrong men , because she had no self Worth And she never asked Forrest for anything,he kept showing up trying to rescue he It wasn't until she got pregnant that she turned her life around because she finally understood unconditional love I think you guys would love The Sixth Sence with The boy that played Forrest son and Bruce Willis

One thing that always puzzles me is people's hatred towards Jenny. Will never understand it. She was abused physically and sexually by her dad and also saw him do it to her sisters. Something that traumatic at an early age can really mess you up in later life as was evident in her choice of men but at the end of the day she defended Forrest all through their formative years but because she didn't fall in love with him and marry him immediately she gets known as a villain by some people who watch this movie
@cinemappendix1389
@cinemappendix1389 2 года назад
I think it has a lot to do with that scene where she shows Forrest her breasts. She doesn't seem to treat Forrest as a serious love interest, as these reactors pointed out, and in that particular scene led him on. Additionally, and this is probably unfair, I think people don't care for her reaction/lifestyle of running away from her troubles and her encouragement of Forrest to do the same. It's one way of dealing with her trauma, whereas Forrest always confronted his traumas--although often internally. The closest we get to a scene with Jenny showing some contemplation of her life's choices are when she stands on the edge of that hotel balcony and an on-the-nose remark from a taxi driver as she runs from Forrest after (unknowingly) getting impregnated by him.
@A-small-amount-of-peas
@A-small-amount-of-peas 2 года назад
@@cinemappendix1389 I can't argue the logic I just think those traits are understandable and don't outweigh the unseen good she'd done for Forrest considering Forrest describes her as his ONLY friend. Once she knows Forrest has it more together than she does in terms of stability (mama to college to the military) in his life and meeting a new best friend in Bubba she stays away from him as her previous trauma and the start of the hippy movement and music scene and wanting to go in that direction to escape her upbringing means she has to get away from Forrest as she knows she's no good for him. She's not a bad person, simply flawed, she dies knowing she gave Forrest the one thing in his life he didn't know he was missing
@larrote6467
@larrote6467 2 года назад
@@A-small-amount-of-peas there's also this: where do you draw the line? I wouldn't dare say where, but the point being that at one point every single human being becomes repsonsible for their actions. @@A-small-amount-of-peas Forrest himself brings that point home while (in maybe the best scene in the movie) he describes how Jenny was with him in all of those times and in all the places he visited. Jenny catches a lot of reactor hate. Forrest had a mother's love. Jenny had an abusive father and no mother to love her. Forrest was flawed, physically and mentally, but innocent. As far as we know, Jenny was Forrest's only friend, and a true one, until Bubba. Forrest's love for Jenny never wavered. Hey mrdegrassifreak! Forrest Gump is certainly an Inspirational movie! It has a great balance of many different genres of film (Drama, Comedy, Romance, "Coming-Of-Age", War Film, etc...). And The performances are VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (and Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is another favorite of mine)! Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (I know Forrest did not have Autism, but him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my RU-vid channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Or-sIiNANYg.html If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! But thank you so much in advance if you do see it! I hope you Have a great day today, mrdegrassifreak! And please stay safe too! :)

👏👏👏 Nicely done, and a refreshing understanding of the character Jenny. Many people are very harsh towards her and I'm glad that you moreso sympathized with her childhood. Robin Wright played her very well.
@lirpa2300
@lirpa2300 2 года назад
It's not that we don't sympathize with Jenny's childhood, but it doesn't justify her actions or give her a pass for treating Forrest like she did throughout the movie. It just seems convenient that now she has an incurable disease she now wants to be with Forrest let alone tell him he has a son. Had she not be sick, would she have told him about Forrest, let alone ask to marry Forrest...probably not.

forrest was the main character in the film... the film showed us who forrest was and is... but we only know so little of jenny and that's why a lot of people will see her as the villain of this film

Almost 30 years ago, this movie was mostly about the USA - with Gump as the naive stand-in for America itself - from the early 50s to the early 80s: Elvis to AIDS (well, more or less). It was a biography of the Baby Boomer generation. Today, to appreciate the film on that level, I think you have to be 1) American, 2) Over 50 (like me), or 3) an American history buff. The 1950s are closing in on a century ago now, though it heartens me that people still know who Elvis is. :) There are a million little explainers of who was what and what it meant in this movie, but I think people today just enjoy the human story. As for your reaction, I join others here in thanking you for not running down a victim of incest. I've almost come to dread reactions to "Gump" because people are awfully judgmental ... or, ignorant, missing the clear indication of abuse early in the film. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it!

I gotta disagre about the american part. Im swedish and gets the points, but I know my history and know about most of the events even though I was'nt born until the 80's. I agree about the movie being about big points in american history and that's important to know about elvis, aids, vietnam, jfk and much much more.

@@junglekimmy3611 Glad to see I'm not entirely right, then. Knowing history - one reactor I watched didn't know who JFK was - makes the movie more comprehensible. Otherwise, it's just a (rather weird and sad) romance

THIS is what Tom Hanks, himself, says he said (explanation found online) : When Forrest gets up to talk at the Vietnam rally in Washington, the microphone plug is pulled and you cannot hear him. According to Tom Hanks he said, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. (Audibly) And that's all I have to say about that."

Psalm 15: LORD, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy mountain? Whoever walks without blame, doing what is right, speaking truth from the heart; Who does not slander with his tongue, does no harm to a friend, never defames a neighbor; Who disdains the wicked, but honors those who fear the LORD; Who keeps an oath despite the cost, lends no money at interest, accepts no bribe against the innocent. My son was a small child when this movie was released. He misheard the line, “Stupid is as stupid does, sir!” and thought Forrest said, “Stupid is a stupid dinosaur”. We’ve joked about that ever since and whenever we see a dinosaur depicted, we say, “I wonder if his name is Stupid”…. Forever an inside joke in our family.

This is the first reaction I saw of this film, where the reactors hit the nail on the head about Jenny. Most people get pissed at Jenny for leaving him over and over, but you two were right on the money. She knew he loved her, and she really did love him back. But she was such a hot mess, from sexual abuse by her father, abusive boyfriends, a destructive lifestyle with abusive relationships followed by constant drug use. She knew she needed to get her shit together and get her life back in order. And back in those days, there was a huge stigma about seeking therapy or counseling, where the main helpful advice came in the form of “get over it”. I love that you two were able to empathize with her character. Love your reactions and I look forward to seeing more from this channel. Cheers! ❤️❤️❤️
