Forrest Gump (1994) with Lia and Mich REACTION 

I have yet to hear a reactor talk about the particular scene but I love how Lt. Dan stood up for Forrest at that New Years Eve "party" back in his room. It was the first time you see that, despite all his bravado, he really does have a good heart.

When he said " is he smart or" that scene is powerful emotional 🤧 to everyone.

My Dad was a Marine in 68-69 Da Nang. He always said that forest gump was the most accurate depiction of combat in Vietnam. He said " you'd be on patrol one minute, minding your business wouldn't have a care in the world... then all hell would break loose. Last a few minutes and that be it."

The scene when Forrest finds out that he has a son, and he asks about little Forrest's intelligence. It breaks me every time. Such an amazing scene. I see it touched you ladies deeply as well.

Tom Hanks played this character so amazingly well that you forget that he's acting and he's that person who he's portraying. That's why I love this movie, it's an amazing story.

I find it amazing that people always ask why didn't she tell him about his son before, they forget that he was running for three years, just like when he got Jenny's return letters,she also was moving around the country at that time And poor Jenny had so many problems that she didn't think she was good enough for him Her being molested as a child really messed her up that's why she always choose guy's that was bad for her and she didn't know what love was until she had her son and finally got herself together

LT Dan, played by Gary Sinise, is/was such an inspiration to injured service members that Mr Sinise has a band called the Lt Dan Band. They travel around to military bases playing free concerts. He also has the Gary Sinise Foundation that works with injured soldiers, ptsd, mental health and even builds homes for them. I would highly suggest watching the videos where he talks about what Lt Dan has meant to people.

My understanding is that he did need the leg braces at first, but by the time of the chase scene, they had done their job.

The feather goes wherever the wind blows. It is a metaphor for Forrest and Jenny's lives and life in general. Your life can be directionless just blowing in the wind or a box of chocolates, where you enjoy the ups and downs along the journey. The "winds" took them in very different directions but they somehow managed to find each other later in life and were able to be together. Even if it was just for a brief time.

I love that Lia was able to complete a thought without being interrupted by a certain someone. Love the chemistry of Michelle and Lia, great duo!

Jenny keeps running because she feels like she's not worthy of him, because she's "damaged" and that he deserves better. She's not being stupid per se, she's just failing to see her own value because of the childhood she had.

Trivia: Tom Hank's accent because he imitated the boy actor that played Forrest as a boy

Jenny's arc in this whole movie was the opposite from Forrest's. Forrest's story was about knowing deep down he's different, but he turned it into a good thing as he runs towards his destiny no matter what it is, spreading love wherever he went, even when anyone else wouldn't. Jenny's story was about running from the scars of her childhood that her family caused and to find happiness. You can see through where she went what kind of peace with herself she was trying to find. First she went to college find happiness in success, but she was soon kicked out for recklessness. Then she decided to try and live her old dream of being a folk singer, but it turned out she was only welcome in that career for all the wrong reasons. That's where she gave up on trying to find happiness and decided she just needs to run away from the sadness, with the hippies and party-goers. But deep down Jenny knew the only place she was truly happy was with Forrest, but she convinced herself she wasn't worthy of his admiration by telling herself things like "He would only get hurt being with me like everyone else" and "You must've tricked him somehow into loving you, he's too innocent to know the difference". That's why you hear her say that line "You don't know what love is", because she doesn't either. And she doesn't want to hurt him to be hurt like how she's emotionally broken herself her whole life. This led through all the way up to even when she had a child, but then she finally found something worth loving that she couldn't run away from. That's what finally started healing her pain from her childhood, and it took 3 years to finally muster the courage to face Forrest again after all that she'd done to him. (Plus him running from place to place probably made it hard to get a hold of him, remember this was a time before cell phones). My point is people often are too busy judging Jenny to understand why she acts the way she does. She's was raised with abuse and was taught that it was all she deserved. She was strong enough to unlearn that ideology and bring Forrest back into her life for only a fraction of how long they should've been together. So it's sad, and unfair, but she found the peace in herself to love Forrest with no regrets.

Michelle was exactly correct by saying - running helps clean your pain away.

One of the best parts of the movie is that Forrest always refers to Lt. Dan with his rank. To Lt. Dan, it showed that Forrest never saw him as any less of himself and still looked up to him despite being an amputee. "You're still Lt. Dan" sticks with him for the rest of the film and despite being rude towards Forrest, he's willing to stand up for him when push comes to shove.

I think Jenny was the second most important person in the movie. The movie showed her life from basically the same time as it started with Forest. You did pick up on the abuse and you didn't say too much bad about her and I'm glad for that [allot of reactors love Forest so much they don't like Jenny] she truly loved Forest and had the same deep down kind nature as he. She was the only one to befriend him on the bus at the very start to show her good nature. [and continued to be his good friend through high school, imagine how hard that was with all the bullies still on Forrest's case, so to speak] I know others have commented on the trauma she would have had to deal with [an obviously very deep wounding of her] so I won't go into that, just point out that they [as the two main subjects of the plot] were basically two kind hearted and worthy people from two different upbringings. She talks of how their lives are so different. [recognizing her flaws] She repeatedly tells Forrest She Does Love Him [in one way or another, always in a sad tone, knowing she could hurt the one true constant good in her life if she let him into hers then] And not wanting to hurt the only true one she did love would say "You don't want to marry me" [imagine how it must have hurt her to have to tell him that!]. She had to fix herself [with no help from anyone in those days -totally on her own to heal herself] before worthiness could take place. Forrest helped everyone! And the way he helped her was finally to let her find the first true lovemaking she had ever done after she recovered at his house. [her choice finally to see it's OK to have a good man watch over her as she obviously made the best decision of her life to "clean up" -with all the sleeping that was needed] When she agreed with Forrest that he would make a good husband on those stairs it led to the final "fix" that happened when she would have felt so badly when he thought she didn't love him. She finally allowed herself to express to him [and herself] the lovemaking she had never known and was always afraid to accept. It was real. It was good. [for both of them] And it was time to leave [yes, once again] but this time Not Running. It was time to make herself a good clean life without his help to be sure she wouldn't hurt him to be with him. [remember she was really new to the clean life, with just those few weeks or so clean so far] She proved it to herself and I believe would have contacted Forrest about his child even if she had not come down with Hepatitis C [a not defined or understood illness back then -it wasn't aids as the author has said it was Hep C] Two deep down Good People, with very different lives who non the less helped each other throughout their life's even as differently as it went for them. One finding it very easy to let the deep-down good person show, the other struggling greatly to let that nature show. Together it showed in both of them easily. It was a true love story from beginning to end. That's all I got to say about that.

I have ab autistic daughter and an autistic son and despite all the hardships, I feel blessed to be their Father because it's a privilege to take care of two of the purest human beings I have ever known. I think that because of Forrest learning difficulties that he in a way even as he got older saw things innocently like a child. I cry every time I watch this movie and have for years. Robert Zemeckis has directed, also: "Cast Away", "Back To The Future", "Contact", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", "Romancing The Stone", "Amazing Stories", "Death Becomes Her", "What Lies Beneath", "Flight", "The Walk", "Polar Express", "A Christmas Carol", "Welcome To Marwen", and more. The imprint he has had, on pop culture is unbelievable. Everyone, in the 80's, was quoting lines, from "Back To The Future". Everyone, in the 90's, was quoting lines from "Forrest Gump". In the 2000's, everyone who left the theater, after seeing "Cast Away", knows the one name, that they yelled. You can still hear it, echoing in your mind. 🏐

Forest Gump is a classic kind of story telling that is really popular in America called the "American Tall Tale." Usually the story is so fantastical it's hard to believe, involves a hero on a long journey of discovery in which he meets many strangers that teach him things along the way, and by the end of the movie you get some kind of revelation that shows you the story was true. I've never seen a Tall Tale that wasn't good. Other fun ones include Joe Dirt, Big Fish, Secondhand Lions, and The Cherokee Kid.

I thought u might be interested to know that each little story in this is true like the hippie girl and the soldier at the Washington monument, the little boy in braces teaching Elvis to dance,the man who saved his platoon in Vietnam, the shrimp boat that made it through the hurricane etc etc. The writer was really interested in all the stories and thought how great it would be if it all happened to one man. Such a great film.

Thanks for sharing your experience, girls! To me this movie is truly unique, I don't know any movie to compare it with and I think it is the ultimate bittersweet movie. I see Forest as the feather, picked up by the wind. To me the power of the film - amongst others - lies in the relativizing tone of the dramatic events (like "he was always kissing and touching her and her sisters"). Scenes that really stood out to me are of course the meeting with his son - "is he ..... smart , or ....." - and the rock throwing scene - "I guess sometimes there just aren't enough rocks". It's easy to hate jenny but once you think about her trauma you understand her. I love the scene where they walk to her house and she starts throwing rocks at it. If you pay attention, you can hear say, while holding her breath,. "How ...could...you...do ..that...to me". Her father's sexual abuse made her feel like she didn't deserve Forrest, she never felt worthy of him. And if course once she had his kid, she caught HIV and she called him because she knew she was dying and wanted Forrest to have his son.

It's fun and joy to watch this with you guys. Now I could see the kindness and love in all of us who watches this. Bless you all ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Jenny didn’t tell Forest about his son because Forrest was running back-and-forth across the United States and she couldn’t get a hold of him.

If you want to watch a movie that can trigger similar emotions as this movie where the main character is a decent and kind man like Forest yet opposite in that he is highly intelligent with big dreams of seeing and making his way in the world but instead ends up through different circumstances never able to leave his hometown then I would recommend watching 'It's a Wonderful Life' from 1946. Especially since we're in the Christmas season.

The main theme is Destiny/Destination. Forrest said he ran to to get to where he was going - a destination. Jenny is always running away from something - no destination. Both of their journeys are like the feather in the wind, not knowing where they'll ultimately end up.

In the speech That no one hears what Forest says this is what he said...." In Vietnam your best good friend can get shot. sometimes when people go to Vietnam they go home to their moma's without any legs. sometimes they don't go home at all. that's a bad thing. that's all I got to say about that."

19:00 It just occured to me, they might have portayed Lt. Dan´s dying ancestors the way Forrest has imagined, what dying looks like. A bit cartoonish? Maybe. But I would like to go out with the facial expression his WWII relative died with. lol Lovely reaction!

great reaction such a great movie i pick up on something new every time i watch it. theres so many little things especially with Lt. Dan like when he says to forrest "do you have any idea what it's like not to be able to use your legs?" and forrest says "ye-yes sir i do." or how lt dan who was very racist married an woman of asian descent. he even tells forrest "the day you become a shrimp boat captain is the day i become an astronaut" then when he shows him his new legs he tells forrest the metal is what they use on space shuttles, god i love this movie. also their next movie they were both in together was apollo 13 where they play astronauts lol

I love seeing young people discover this movie. It is so good and heartfelt. I saw it so many times in the theater in the 90s when it came out.

I've watched a few of these Forrest Gump reactions and I enjoy the woman's viewpoint. So many of the women were frustrated at Jenny especially at the sickness reveal.

Forest and little Forest melt my heart

I can tell when people are going to cry to this movie in a reaction within the first 5 minutes 😂

Jenny gets a lot of hate but she didn't think she was in love with Forrest because she thought she was taking advantage of him the same way her father molested her. Every time Forrest gets close she gets scared she is taking advantage of him and runs away. She keeps leaving Forrest behind because she convinces herself that he doesn't really love her. She convinces herself that his affections are shallow, since he would never be able to really understand love either. Take that scene with Forrest and her in her college dormroom. Had the genders been reversed, people would be so extremely uncomfortable about that scene because it'd be inching so close to rape. Jenny knows that. She realizes that. She thinks she is molesting him. So she runs away. Again. It takes her whole life to figure out that love is so simple that even Forrest can understand it and she gives in and loves him.

Forest made his decisions with his heart rather than his brain and things always turned out well. Was it destiny or did he make things happen. Was that feather destined to float in the air or did it just happen. Great movie

I love how they tie in the feather. I look at as, like the feather blows with the wind, our life is the same way. Destiny takes us in any direction. I love how Forest approaches his life and all the changes with a sense of innocence, not questioning but just doing what is right. Love you reactions as always.

You have to understand, Jenny loved Forrest. She hated herself. I also was a victim of sexual abuse as a child. Not to the extent that Jenny was, and not from a family member, but from a friend of the family. I blocked it away for many many years. It made me cold, it has screwed up every single relationship I’ve been in. It’s tough for me to get close to people. Jenny couldn’t accept happiness. Forrest was happiness and she didn’t feel like she deserved it. I think even in the end she didn’t feel like she deserved it, but Forrest jr deserved to be with a great man.

The book was written as a satire of American society, making fun of how too many people make life way more complicated than it actually is, I think it’s genius, my dad a army infantry veteran absolutely loved it, he’s a squad leader and he had a soldier from Georgia, a big strong farm boy, who just crushed it in the army, never complained, never talked about politics, etc just gave his best and was allways super respectful to everyone, didn’t talk much, so this reminded me of my dad telling me this

What Forrest had was Polio and as a child in late 50s we got Polio Vaccine Shots. Now their has been no case since 1979 in the U.S. but still prevalent in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

You know how Jenny told Forrest to run away? That’s how she learned to deal with problems. She prayed to be a bird and fly away. So from a young age that’s the only way she thought you could escape is to run away. Also the feather floating I think symbolizes when Forrest asked if we’re just floating along on a breeze or if we have a destiny? Then he said maybe both are happening at the same time. So with the feather it was floating on a breeze and also maybe it was destined to make the journey that it did.

You guys should watch Big Fish, same mix of humor and emotion. I think you guys will love that one too.

I lived long enough to see my childhood princesses become generals. Jenny is Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride and she became General Antiope in Wonder Woman, Leia from Star wars and she became General in the latest Star Wars movies

One line that makes me laugh that most people don't notice. When the Army recruiter asks Forrest if he's given any thought to his future. Forrest's answer is "Thought?"

I’ve seen this movie countless times and I’ve cried every time

Two things have been missed by commentators and the ladies reviewing... one of the funniest things in this movie is after he punches that asshole for slapping Jenny, is he says to everyone there, "Sorry I had a fight in the middle of your Black Panther party." is just hilariously funny and I laugh every time i see it. The Panthers were violent (I think rightfully so) and considering what was going on in 68 -69, how they would react to it. Also, after they were walking around Jenny in looking at Forrest in his uniform seeing how much he liked the Army when he was in it, saw him for the man he was. Forrest was proud of his actions and in doing what she had said for him to do was the right thing and was rewarded for it, in that running away, saved the lives of how many men? He did it right.

I also had my Jenie. It was my first love, a platonic love since I was 10 years old. When I was 16 I enlisted in the paratroopers... Some time later I went back to look for her. He had died of a heroin overdose. I couldn't save her...

Forrest is mentally troubled but in the army he's considered a genius. 18:45 - Nobody ever reacts to the fact that Lt. Dan is the only one that after acknowledging Forrest's mental situation doesn't tell him that he's stupid but tries to accomodate him. 20:43 - It's debatable whether it's better to be a stripper or a drug addict with an uncontrolled sexual life. 29:02 - According to Tom Hanks he said is: "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 30:31 - The problem is the context: Forrest, being a war hero, was associated with the right-winged government policy and he just beat up a peace activist in a place where everybody was angry at the government. 32:56 - For all the ping-pong scenes the ball was added in CGI, so he wasn't actually playing. 49:29 - Not continuously

Why do so many reactors think Jenny is just being mean to Forrest and using him?It blows my mind they don't understand that she didn't see herself good enough for Forrest and she thought he deserved someone better.Only after she worked on herself was she able to feel good about herself and contact Forrest.

A lot of people criticize Jenny for not telling Forrest that she gave birth to his child for 3 years, completely forgetting the fact that he was running back and forth across the country that entire time. How the hell was she supposed to contact him? Send a letter through the Pony Express?

She never told Forrest about the child because Forrest was running. Back then there was no internet or cell phones and when you were on the road, there was no way to communicate with anyone. It may be hard for younger people to understand, but those of us who lives without the internet/ cellphones can understand just how easy you could go off the grid. Even at home, if you wanted to disappear for the weekend, all you had to do was take your landline phone off the hook. And Forrest stated that he only stopped to sleep and eat. He ran for a little over 3 years. That's how old his son is. That's why they made it a point to show that she made a scrap boat keeping track of where he was.

If you have not yet watched "Breaker Morant" (1980) [based on the true but controversial story] I think that it might make for a great reaction video. The film won ten Australian Film Institute Awards including: Best Film, Best Direction, Leading Actor, Supporting Actor, Screenplay, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Editing. It was also nominated for the 1980 Academy Award for the Best Writing (Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium).
