When Jenny was singing naked on the stage, Forest didn't want to see her degrading herself, so he carried her off. That was heartbreaking to watch. And when she told him "You don't know what love is, Forest", it was, in fact, she who didn't know what love was.

One of the quotes from this movie I like is when Lt Dan asks Forrest if he's found Jesus. And Forrest replies "I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him." @@hrfdude4234 Why do you suppose she speaks and acts that way? Have you ever experienced sexual and physical assault for an extended period of time by one of your parents? (And it was her only parent too!) If not, you cannot speak to the psyche of that person. Moreover, the only thing that matters is how Forrest feels about her. Your thoughts are irrelevant. Don't be cynical and try to put yourself in someone else's shoes before judging them. She feels she is wrong for him and she doesn't deserve genuine love, so she "runs", both mentally and physically. It was only having a child that brought her peace. And it was probably that love that opened her up to finally understanding what Forrest meant to her throughout her entire life. Sorry she didn't come to that realization soon enough for you, but again, it probably takes some people who experienced what she had a long time to do so. But Forrest doesn't care... and loves her anyways. That's all that matters. I'm not saying how she spoke to Forrest was correct, but we have no right to cast any judgment on her. None. Only those she hurt can even have the audacity to do so. And she doesn't have AIDS, it's Hepatitis. One of the largest misconceptions/assumptions of the movie by the audience. Although I guess Groom did leave it open for such.

I still remember seeing this when it was new in theaters BEFORE it became a sensation. They actually didn't push it a lot with advertising at the very start, and in fact a lady friend and I were there for Pulp Fiction, but that was sold out so we both said "fine, let's just watch a cheap Tom Hanks comedy". Oh did we have this one pegged wrong. There's an old Lenny and Squiggy (of Laverne and Shirley fame) joke about how when women get sad they cry, when men get sad they throw up. After this movie, "there wasn't a dry floor in the house." To this day, the most moving line for me is "sometimes there just aren't enough rocks". I feel that way every time I think about my childhood and I carried that pain and anger for far more years than I should have. That's why I found Jenny to be a sympathetic character. We are a product of those who made us, and it is very hard to escape that pain and distrust. You fall into wrath, taking it out on others, as well as neglecting those who actually care about you, and abusing yourself for not being "worthy" of what everyone else seems to expect of you. It truly takes something -- or someone -- to care about, to be responsible for, to ever get your head back on straight. A difficult thing to do when preconditioned to line yourself up for abuser after abuser, JUST because that's all you think you're worthy of. Kind of like what Scott Pilgrim told Kim, "I'm sorry about me." Until you face that, the loop of self abuse will continue. People who've never known that hardship continually rag on Jenny for being "stupid" or "messed up". Damned straight she's messed up. A LOT of us are messed up. That they kneejerk into hating her instead of feeling empathy for her? Well, that's the narcissistic sociopathy that for 40+ years has been held up as a virtue whilst empathy and compassion might as well be mortal sins.

Forrest had a good heart. Helping out his friends and comrades. He kept his promise to Bubba, by being a shrimp boat captain and he helped Lieutenant Dan out of his funk. A lot of his accomplishments were pretty much accidental and unintentional. The beauty of it is that he didn't let any of the riches and fame go to his head and he remained humble through it all. In Jenny's case, She felt that she didn't deserve Forrest's love because she was sexually abused by her father, which led her to make some questionable choices. In the end, Forrest was able to spend time with Jenny in her last days and take care of their son. His mama certainly played an integral role in Forrest's character by summing up life being a box of chocolates; not knowing what you're gonna get.

A beautiful reaction, imo Forrest has no ego so his soul has no barriers to block his empathy and compassion, and these are the qualities all men and women should strive for 🙂🙏🏼

I worked in the cinema when this was released. Four or five times a day I had to watch the ending, knowing everything that led up to it; cried every time. I'm 45 now, still cry when I watch it (or watch people as lovely as you two watch it). This is easily one of Zemekis/Hanks best films ever. Such a roller coaster of emotions throughout. Thank you Viki and Ellie for putting yourselves and your own raw emotions out here to share with us. Much love and thanks.

Hey Mike! That must have been an incredible experience to have seen Forrest Gump in the theaters! Every time I watch Forrest Gump, my experience is that I think it is SO engaging and well-acted that it feels like it is a quick watch even though the movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long. And despite it being a fictional story, I still find it to be very inspirational, and it has moments that I think most people can relate to on an emotional level. An additional reason that I connect with this movie is because my brother actually has Autism (I know Forrest Gump did not have Autism, but him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I actually posted a video on my channel earlier this year that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Or-sIiNANYg.html If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! But thank you so much in advance if you do see it! Have a great day Mike, and stay safe!

Funny thing that Forrest was always told to run yet Jenny ran from everyone/everything. Even though many people thought him to be “stupid” he excelled in anything he put his mind to. I thoroughly enjoyed the reaction.

It’s become a very popular thing to bash Jenny and say her character was a terrible, selfish person who used Forrest. That’s an incredibly mean-spirited, judgmental attitude. Jenny was physically, sexually and mentally abused by her father as a young child. Just simply surviving that is a miracle, let alone, dealing with those scars for the rest of her life. She obviously felt the impact of that abuse for her entire life and this is the reason for her behavior. She didn’t feel she deserved to be loved, but Forrest loved her anyway, and they had a family together, even for a very short time. Don’t judge. Everyone has their stories.

Movies like this are fun but very emotional journeys that everybody on some level no matter where they might be from can relate to. One of Robert Zemeckis' best films. Does anybody wanna hug Viki and Ellie when you see them cry, or is it just me? It's probably just me. lol Great reaction, ladies, as usual! Thanks.

Cool fun fact. The actor who played young Forrest gump, I deliver mail to where he works in corinth Mississippi where he lives. He joined the military, came home to work while going back to college, while working part time at austin shoes (which is ironic seeing as forest was all about the running shoes and magic legs 🤣).

Jenny must be one of the most hated and missunderstood characters from all times. People loves to make a villain out of her, but she was in fact trying to protect Forresf from herself, as she considered herself bad or wrong and didn`t want to hurt him, or accepted she deserved his love. She is a very tragic character.

The actress who plays the mother of Forrest Gump is the incredible Sally Field. On one occasion, the great, the magnificent, the goddess of cinema Katharine Hepburn was asked in an interview something similar to this: "Talking to you, who are considered by most critics as the best film actress in all of history, ... ¿do you envy any other actress's interpretive quality?” And, when everyone would have expected an answer like “Bette Davis” or “Diane Keaton,” Kate answered, “Sally Field's acting jobs in Norma Rae and Steel Magnolias are the best performances I've ever seen in my life." And yes, really, Sally Field is a great actress.

Jenny gets a lot of thrash but she didn't think she was in love with Forrest because she thought she was taking advantage of him the same way her father molested her. Every time Forrest gets close she gets scared she is taking advantage of him and runs away. She keeps leaving Forrest behind because she convinces herself that he doesn't really love her. She convinces herself that his affections are shallow, since he would never be able to really understand love either. Take that scene with Forrest and her in her college dormroom. Had the genders been reversed, people would be so extremely uncomfortable about that scene because it'd be inching so close to rape. Jenny knows that. She realizes that. She thinks she is molesting him. So she runs away. Again. It takes her whole life to figure out that love is so simple that even Forrest can understand it and she gives in and loves him.

Forrest Gump: I'm not smart but I know what is love is ... u are the first person to talk about Jenny's childhoot issues. I think her father abused her. That is why she was avoiding true love. Forrest helped her. He was not trying to take advantage of her - even though every other man in her life did (except her son and Forrest). She was really searching for men not loving her (sex based - the thing that was given to her instead of true love). Many women and men being abused in childhood show similar signs. Searching for sex - thinking it was love. Almost incapable of finding true love as deep within their heart they understand and know but are not brave enough to try - maybe because they know deep down that by letting love happen - they would have to admit, that their "loved ones" abusing them were not loving her/him in true love.

That song at 18:58. my grandmother loved that song, ever since she was a kid. One of my favorite memories is her singing "California Dreaming" while Grandad played. She liked this movie too Every time I see that scene, I think of my grandad in Vietnam, writing my grandmother and it brings tears too my eyes. Really hard to believe they're both gone. Most of the stories my grandad told my father were about the times between the madness, when he was able to write my grandmother.
