I thought this was a great interview, and I am excited to share it with you! Forrest Wang has been a super influential drifter around the world, known for his stylish S14 and S15 2JZ Formula D drift cars. Please enjoy this episode!
Amongst the many FD drivers that have come and gone, Forrest is probably the only one I felt sad about. Everytime he drove, the crowd went wild. Dude had style regardless if it was a mistake or not. He was a showman through and through and one of the best to ever be in the sport period.
The last year he competed in FD and had 2 omt runs with James Deane and was ROBBED of the victory was enough to make me want to quit haha. Great battles though
@@joshtoth-thomas5847 yes!! I remember watching that and getting so mad. But that was one of the most exciting rivalries that year though. James was cooking and Forrest wasn't holding back.
@@joshtoth-thomas5847 i had to go watch that battle! And on the second OMT wang did a super clean chase run not attacking crazy but super consistent then on the lead he did beautiful and on the bank James chasing did a huge correction “mistake” it was not clean at all wang was definitely ROBBED! Wow i was like wang deff did a better job smh that’s fucked up
Sometimes I wonder if Forrest genuinely knows how great of a driver he truly is, he’s one of the few people in FD that I’ve seen beat James Deane when James was dominating 👏 🔥 I miss watching him out there
Forrest is seriously built different. His transitions are so fluidic. Only other guy who I feel has as mechanical of a driving style as Wang would be Deane.
Man this is gold. Long format Joe Rogan style is right. Sometimes I feel like these guys don't know they are their own type of 1%. Over 300 million Americans and look at how small drifting is and how these guys are doing what so many people will never know or experience. I love drift week, thank you Aaron and everyone involved for making this happen. And for everyone that is on drift week stay positive even if shit isn't going perfect. A day at an event like this even if your car is broke down is still better than a day at a miserable job. Keep Killin it guys
Braddah Forrest still the same. Was always the cool dude. Everything he said is true about his humble beginnings. He was the first to do the sr20 swap, probly one of the first in the US. This was the late 90s. I remember hanging with all those guys, Forrest, Ross, Alex, among others. Was a small import racing community here. We were big into Pro import drags. Had some of the fastest hondas in the nation back then. Everyone helped eachother out, wrenching, selling parts, motor swaps. He even took care of us when he came back for visits. Proud of what Forrest has accomplished up there. Git it!
I got to meet Forrest and got a ride-a-long with him at Hyperfest in 2017, and he changed the way I thought about drifting in general, his style is super badass and always recognizable. Forrest is a super humble dude and I hope to see him drive more!
I’ve been praying there would be Forrest content from drift week, i was stoked to see him the background of some other guys videos. Would love to see him back in FD - all time favorite drifter
Met Forrest back on that day he showed up in his rhd one is FOB from Hawaii. That car was a master piece. His driving showed as well. He single handedly changed the way people went about at top drift competing. He set the bar to such a high standard, not only with driving but quality of build. Till This day he’s still the same Forrest I met that fateful day at willow springs balcony for top drift. Hope to see him compete one day again. This was a great video.
Forrest is from that Golden era car scene of Hawaii, a lot of amazing things spawned within that era, people were actuality trying to build their cars properly and were put to use. Wish I grew up on the same island as him to witness the craziness at the time
Aaron is right! We love long form interviews. Especially from people we don’t usually hear from. Forest’s story was very entertaining to listen to while working on my drift car
Ah that's cool...lol...thanks for the shout out. I really enjoyed making those videos back with Drift Session. Forrest has always been the man and always brought it. His last drift comp at Hawaii Raceway Park, I remember telling him he had everything to go pro. He had the mechanical and technical build skills to make amazing drift cars, and the driving skills to go balls to the wall. Very proud to see him still out there ripping it up even if it's not currently FD. I am developing a new track here in Hawaii called Circuit Hawaii. If he's down, we'll bring Forrest back for the first event. Keep rocking it!
I remember being stoked in high school to go see Forrest at d1 here in Vegas from watching drift session and grip volumes all through high school. Such a cool dude humble and mega chill
I got the chance to chat with him a bit and hop in his s14 at musselman and it was truely a dream come true. What an experience to get to ride with your favorite driver throwing huge angle with close tandems. I will never forget that night!
Glad for this interview, Forrest is amazing at driving and one of the guys that gave drivers like James Deane a hard fought battle. Him leaving FD was a sad time, hope I see him return one day. King of Style forsure.
In 2018, while visiting Vegas I went for a walk and stumbled upon Forrest’ shop where he was wrenching with his buddy Bryn and they let my friend and I come in and help pull a LS motor out of an old S13 hatch. Super nice guy! By far the best part of my trip to Vegas. Lol
Please do more with Forrest. I'd love to hear his opinion on the current state of FD, how he'd like to see it evolve, does he prefer events like Drift shifters or the competitive stuff? There's so much more id like to hear from him about!!
yeah same I wanted to hear about his story in Europe when he went to compete in the Irish drift series and drift shifters, and see his comparison of American drifting and European drifting
@@thehomieguac oh yeah that would be a good story. The guy has so much more insight to offer having seen virtually the whole world's adaptations of drifting. We need another hour at least
I’ll never forget I went to Forrest’s pit to say what’s up he didn’t say much. I was talking to one of his pit crew, I said I been following him since the days of you driving the drift emporium G35 he heard me, he came back dapped me up and gave me a couple stickers lol #respect
Forrest has always been my favorite driver, I never really watch these interviews I get bored easy but this held my attention the entire time. I really wish he was driving FD still....
I want to see forest wang talk about more of his drifting in Hawaii and possibly his street drifting like on tantalus, and other og spots. It’s so crazy Hawaii has a driving hero in the states
forrest is very well spoken and good at interviews for sure. most respect to him. the way he describes seeing Japanese drivers for the first time is the way I've heard people describe watching forrest drive englishtown. jaws on the floor as he links tree turn to the bank reverse when no one knew the proper line but him
crazy to watch this, cause yea back in the day you thought this guy was going to be the next fd champion. I still want to see him come back to fd. he brought so much excitement to the sport.
It’s me, I’m the kid(grown ass man) with your poster on the wall looking up to your style as a driver. Constantly fantasizing of living the life. Thank both of you for sharing this story and continuing to make drifting fun and stylish and accessible. I wish I had gotten into this at a much younger age. But here I am trying to build my first car after 30. I hope to see y’all on track one day.
Forrest is probably responsible for me getting into drifting. While I had gone to one of the Team Orange events on the East coast, it wasn't until I saw Forrest driving D1 Anaheim that I was blown away and hooked. I remember he was the sole driver that went toe to toe with Team Orange, and the other Japanese drivers,he had so many one more times, what a time to be alive and in California!
This was the best, forest wang is my idol I drifting because of his style and I followed him since those 808 drift days. He doesn't need to be in FD, just do exhibition every now and then so we can see his style again! Ooh and we need his car 3D scanned for forza games 😆
Forest Wang was indeed my favorite guy at FD because of style both car and driving. I still have a signed Little square paper with the s14 when it had a green monoblock wheels, got it at wall speedway in NJ like in 2014? Ish lol so he is the kumakubo of my generation. Miss him in FD
Proud of Forrest, he never forgot his roots from his Hillsider NSB days. I still remember his bright yellow s14 from his HS days lol. He was always about getting nutz and having fun.
Super happy to watch this interview. I'm not the "poster" type, but when I first started watching FD two drivers really stuck out to me. Tuerck mainly because of his personality and his Tuercked series (high energy, bringing back allot of 2000s skate culture vibes), and Forrest for his driving. Dudes driving was/is insane and the style his cars have is just beautiful. I genuinely was abit upset when he left FD. Was happy though to see him compete in super drift challenge this year.
Much love to Wang! He is one of my favorite big time drivers and always proud to see the 808 doing good. Seeing him drive in person absolutely changed my mind on what drifting really is.
Seen him drive at japfest Ireland some years back....seeing his style (18x11 vskfs etc...) sitting beside the classic Irish practical competition car was something I'll never forget not to mention the completely different driving style
Even though I only recently got super into drifting, Forrest has been one of the few names I knew back when I was a kid. Great to see he's still very active in the community!
These are like short podcasts with background sounds. Great stuff! And yes, like many others I've been a huge fan of Forrest, he was always the guy I hoped did well when Aasbo or Moen was out of the show.
