You are supposed to use Silk Scarf in Desert Underpass, does more damage (hence increased catch chance) without killing them except for crits. If you want to use Chestos you probably should catch in Route 47, there the threshold EV is the same but you just don't put the silk scarf
I was just about to say the same thing. Vaporeon does a lot better than Forretress if you land in red bar consistently. Could even go as far as bringing the Atk EVs up a little more to 220+. Encountering 0 HP iv lvl 40 Dittos is very rare, so you can take a little bit of risk to make all your other catches more consistent.
Sorry for hijacking your comment like this, but I also just want to add on that Vaporeon also allows you to visit the pokecenter less often and requires less input and therefore requires less attention. The meta is to go with a full team of 6 Vaporeons, which let's you catch 96 Dittos vs the +/- 72 if you were to go with 3 Spore catchers.

I personally prefer Vaporeon, it's actually very consistent when you use Silk Scarf. Also only having to track the PPs on one Mon at a time makes it more afkable 😂 You also have a surprising amount of wiggle room on the stats when making a Vaporeon! It doesn't have to be 31atk/0def. Just use a calculator and you can find the right EVs to train for most configurations between 31-26atk and 0-4def.
