I don't remember anyone stopping their vehicles. That would have caused a major problem. I do remember people hurrying to get inside buildings though.

My brother was stationed at Ft. Knox in the early 90’s and every vehicle stopped and either saluted or put their hand on their chest

I grew up on Army bases. I do remember cars stopping. It was never a problem. I recall that girl scout and boy scout troops were invited to attend retreating the color ceremonies. Attending wzs considered to be a great honor. We wore our uniforms, and brought our troop flags. When the American post flag was lowered, we dipped our flags to pay respect. I still value the times during the day when we honored the flag, and those who sacrificed their all for the flag and their country. Still think that slowing down, and stopping to pay respect is a valuable thing to do.

I would keep time on my watch and wait for the bugle...I was proud of it and would autmatically pull over and salute the flag...of course the Democrats would try to hide...They created the KKK...they never liked old glory...to this day

Small change in the regulations: Retirees retain the privilege of the salute. It is also my understanding that soldiers in civilian clothing may also render the hand salute. To my knowledge, this has not been changed. "The National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 contained an amendment to allow un-uniformed servicemembers, military retirees, and veterans to render a hand salute during the hoisting, lowering, or passing of the U.S. flag"

I went thru OSUT at Ft Knox...this brings back so many memories and a few tears. I remember when we had respect for Old Glory...We all did the same in West Germany also...this process follows you even into my '60s...Always respect for the colors, their meaning and why we do it. It kills me to see the infiltration of communism and fascism instructed in Schools across the country and burning of Old Glory in the streets...They know not what they do.

Colors is sacred. Honoring Freedom and the sacrifice of life. First thing in the morning and when the day is done. A tradition that extends back for centuries. Everyone is involved with colors if under open skies. Moving vehicles are suppose to pull over if they figure out its happening. Thats how i remember it in the Navy. Any base, any ship.

In the army in 1981, I tried to run across a large quad in pouring rain. I assumed everyone crowded at the door were there because they didn't want to brave the rain. Little did I know, it was a few seconds to Retreat. I got caught out in the open and stopped to show my respect, getting the shower of my life in the process, lol.

According to recently enacted law, all Veterans and active duty military personnel who are wearing civilian clothing have the option of either placing the right hand over the heart, or using a military salute to rend honors to the flag or as part of a memorial or funeral service. I believe this was enacted by Congress and signed into law during the Bush administration.

Glad the Air Force requires you to stay in your car. No way I'm hoping out of my car in low light to stand in the street hoping the other idiots around me stop and don't run me over. Never understood how the Army thought getting out of your car and standing in the road was a good/safe idea.

What about boy/girl scouts in uniform
@AstroBlakeD
@AstroBlakeD 5 лет назад
the same thing as the troops in uniform, 2 finger salutes for cub scouts 3 for boy scouts and whichever the girl scouts and other scouting organizations use, when not in uniform (ie when not at a scouting event), one can do the same as the uninformed troops or as a civilian, the only other proper salute in scouting is doing the finger salute over one's heart, this is when a pledge occurs, and never when a roll call takes place, any scouts that aren't in uniform at a scouting roll call is seen as a disgraceful scout as they are dishonoring the roll call and their fellow troop. The Boy scouts are practically military minors, and most troops do calls while starting/ending scout meetings, and during camping as well.

At Maxwell AFB in Alabama, they play Retreat and the National Anthem at 1700. I can't speak as to Reveille at 0630 because I am never there at that time.
@a-drewg1716
@a-drewg1716 3 года назад
Taps is used to play to signal to personnel for "lights out" or that it is safe to go to sleep and that there are other members posted to guard while you sleep. You can think that one reason TAPs is played for funeral is because it is signaling to the deceased service member that it is safe for him/her to be layed to rest as a symbolic gesture and that we who remain on Earth shall keep guard and that you no longer need to worry about anything else.

Sander Vdl absolutely. You should remove your hat if you're wearing one, but generally being respectful is all that is asked of foreigners. No need to put your hand over your heart or even bow your head if you do not wish.

@chrismc410
@chrismc410 3 года назад
1: those were probably Muslim women and what they were wearing are is either a a Burqua or Niqab depending on the country they're from and traditions thereof 2. Muslims in general have very strict traditions against graven images/idolatry. The general idea if I'm understanding it correctly, is if it doesn't praise God or the prophet Muhammad and even then in certain ways that doesn't go into the realm of idolatry, they want nothing to do with it. No, I'm not Muslim but I know a lot of people who are and ask a lot of questions
