Fort Monroe National Monument, US Civil War Site :: Union Army Base in the Confederate South 

Fort monroe is located in hampton virginia. It was a Civil War site, the only Union base in the South. it was the northern South but still in the South. Fort monroe was visited by many presidents throughout history. Presidents Abraham Lincoln if the US and Jefferson Davis of the Confederate army both spent time at this base. You can see this base in a 1/2 a days time. It is located 40 minutes from Williamsburg, Virginia, which is where we were staying, about 20 minutes from Langley, about 30 minutes from Norfolk, And about 40 minutes from virginia beach which we visited and you will see in a later episode. There is enough in the area to spend weeks, if time allowed.
