We leave the comforts of Shelter Bay Marina and set sail for the Chagres River in search of pirates! Fort San Lorenzo didn't disappoint. Built by the Spanish in 1599 to ward off pirates entering the Chagres River, it was short lived because in 1670 the notorious pirate Captain Henry Morgan overrun the fort and secured it for Britain! The mongrel!
Then he sailed down the Chagres River to knock out the Spanish capital in Latin America, Casco Viejo! See other video about our time there.
We also meet another wonderful family that take us to the shoreline to harvest coconuts! Yes, coconuts to be eaten from the palm of tree.
We then take the boat down the Chagres River to the Gatun Dam where we see alligators and listen to the howling monkey war in the jungle.
It was a gob smacker of rain that hailed down on our dingy venture through an inlet that led to a mangrove bird sanctuary. Truly a marvel to be seen by all.
