The moral evils we are facing right now seem almost demonic in their intensity, and the need for courage is so very great. Thanks for putting this up.

Fr I never thought of fortitude/bravery as a skill. I am always putting myself down and thinking of myself as weak.

Serious request for the Thomistic Institute: could you eventually also make a DVD series to sell which has the same titles and videos as the RU-vid/online Thomistic Institute? You could advertise this eventual DVD (maybe even through the LA Religious Education Congress). I'm completely convinced that senior Catholic high school students and college students in America and around the world will benefit enormously from this exceptional work that you make easy to understand with effective imagery, precision of thought, and economy of expression. Instructors and catechists may not always have internet access available to them, so DVDs would be a great supplement. I honestly think you should make the eventual DVD series available for World Youth Days with many subtitled languages available for the DVD. Please consider!!!! May God continue to richly bless your important ministry.

Thank you for your support and suggestion. While we don't currently don't have any plans for a DVD series, these Aquinas 101 courses and lessons will always be available for free online. Another great catechetical resource is our CREDO RCIA program: thomisticinstitute.org/credo-rcia-program.

What a great video! Thank you so much! And I would like to add something. To have the grace of God, one must practice the greatest virtue, that is humility, to defeat the greatest sin, that is pride. Remember James 4:6 "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble". Humility is the mother of all virtues. That means that a prideful person cannot have perseverance, patience, fortitude or any other virtue. Practice humility and you will have access to the rest of the virtues.

There is 'Servile Fear', like a Slave fearing punishment from his Master - devlish fear. And there is 'Filial Fear', like the fear of a child disappointing their parents -- godly fear. Thank you so much, father. This video you shared is such a great example of 'Filial Fear' -- a fear borne of love; the child does not want to disappoint their father so the child runs to the father.

When we hear the gospel we learn about God and this make our faith grow and God's grace flow and give the disposition not to be afraid to do the right thing because our Lord Jesus Christ was persecuted and died for us to be heirs of God's Kingdom. Therefore we are also willing to suffer as He have suffered. Amen. O Lord Jesus Christ, grant us the grace to grow in virtues worthy of heaven specially humility and obedience. Amen. 🙏🌹

Courage can also be inspired and cultivated by being around other people who are courageous. Similarly to fear, courage can be contagious. Considering the idea that virtue is more than just an act, but comes from character within, one might think a single act of courage that is merely "inspired" is not authentic virtue, however, there would have to be something alive below the surface for it to suddenly flower.

Great video, congratulations! Just a question: is the fortitude we can get asking it for God the same fortitude which is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit?
@ThomisticInstitute
@ThomisticInstitute 4 года назад
Great question! Some of the gifts of the Spirit are also virtues, so there is a distinction. The virtue of fortitude helps us achieve difficult goods according to a human mode. The gift of fortitude gives us strength through a direct movement of the Holy Spirit, in a way that surpasses human nature. See: aquinas101.thomisticinstitute.org/st-iiaiiae-q-139#SSQ139A1THEP1

@@rubemartur8239 Are you really reading the gift of perseverance into the story of the death of Samson? The text seems to me to emphasize his physical strength, although on the other hand it is clear that in his case it is linked to an “ascetic” lifestyle.

We live in an age on which many believing in no order in the universe or purpose create meaning based upon feelings. They do whatever they feeling calling it authentic. This is false as feelings are changing and like chasing the wind. In fact we should use reason and then despite feelings utilise courage to do what is right.

catholics teach that most people go to hell. and that everyone deserves to suffer in hell.
@wardjaeger8954
@wardjaeger8954 4 года назад
I can't find any writings by St. Thomas about the quantity of damned souls, and the Catholic Church is generally loath to talk about exactly who goes where after death, especially when it comes to individual persons. But yes, there is a good deal of scriptural evidence that many people go to hell. Matthew 7:13-14, Matthew 25:31-46, and Luke 13:23-24 are some examples of Jesus' teachings about hell. Not exactly the most uplifting of topics, but perhaps it does remind us of our utter dependence on God and even encourages us to grow in holiness.
