I thought I’d try my luck at getting to the lake on this trail. It looked kinda rough in other folks videos but figured I’d give it a shot.
I did not speed up or slow down any of the trail video so what you see is the speed that I actually traveled in. There is no music so you can enjoy the scramble and scrapping sounds.
My truck doesn’t have a lift or bigger tires on it but it sits kinda high from the factory so that really helps.
Truck is a 2021 Ford F250 4x4 diesel extended cab long-bed. It has a factory rear locker which has come in handy on many occasions. It is basically stock except I put a winch and new front bumper on it and swapped the tires out for BFG K02s in the stock size which is 245 75 R17 which is about 31.5”.
Camper is a Four Wheel Camper Project M that I have had for about a month.
Battle wounds from this trip are a dent in the camper roof, some dings in the roof rack and the steps on the truck took a beating.
Also scrapped the shock mounts and front tow hooks but no damage occurred to either.
The trail is really rough most of the way and definitely need some clearance, patience and a locker helps too.
The campsites at the lake are pretty nice and it is a beautiful area that is well taken care of, worth the trip if you enjoy a little bit of 4x4ing to get there.

It was slow going but worth it for the nice campsite. Thanks for watching.

Great Job. Truck and driver both did a great job on the trail considering what you went through. I hope the camper will be okay. Rock slider steps seem to be next on the list

@@psychology2217 Thanks. The camper took a hit but never leaked. I tried to pop the dent out and it improved a bit but was still noticeable.

My goodness, some of those tracks sure seemed a little sketchy...yikes! Sure is great once one gets there though! Fantastic! Bruce and Otis

Thanks Bruce. It was definitely a test of maneuverability getting there but felt like a champ once I got to the lake.

Rock and Roll! I was just at Four Wheel Camper open house talking to some F-250 campers in the lot. Changing from 150 to 250 soon. Subscribing!

Awesome. Thanks. The 150 would be lighter and a bit more nimble on the trails, the 250 especially with the diesel is a heavy beast but it gets me where I’m going.

You crazy! Nice job getting up there. Really looks worth the trip. Sorry bout the camper.

Yes I am. Thanks, it is a nice little lake and feels very isolated even though you can arrive by vehicle. The camper was bound to get a bruise at some point, I was just hoping for a distant future though.

Very impressive what you can get that big rig through . Cheers 🍻

Thanks, took a lot of patience and getting in and out of the pickup several times to check clearance.

Nice video!! Taking a big risk going on roads like that, good way to be stranded for a long time!🤷‍♂️
@scottalpine
@scottalpine 8 месяцев назад
Thanks. Yeah it’s definitely riskier going on those roads, I try to take it slow and walk ahead to scout the obstacles in some spots.

Thanks for the trip. Good thing you left Rusty at home. I think he would’ve been looking at you and saying OK tell me again what was wrong with all the other camp sites we went by. 😁

Yes he definitely would have been freaking out on that trip. No need to torture the little guy.

You’re brave! I thought the logging roads that I’ve been on were bad, but Now they look pretty fine compared to this ‘road’. Whew, I’ve only been on one that was almost his challenging. Whew!! 😄👍👍

Thanks but perhaps a bit more foolish than brave. Gotta challenge one’s self every once in awhile though.

Wow! I really enjoyed this video. That lake was beautiful, especially loved the drive in. That was some drive. I looked it up online and will no doubt go there this next fall. Too bad about your camper, I hope it didn't start leaking as a result.

It is a very beautiful lake. It’s a popular road for the overlanders so that’s why I went in late fall during the week. Definitely not a road that my vehicle should be on but I felt like it was kind of a merit badge to get the big white whale up there. It was a bummer about the camper but I should have known better and got out and looked on that tight corner. Fortunately no leaks due to that incident. It is a very slow bumpy road if you ever do tackle it but it’s a gorgeous area and there are lots of other camp spots nearby too if you decide that you don’t want to go up that road.

Always love seeing a relatively stock truck take on a bit of a technical trail. We haven't done Gallagher Head Lake yet, but I think we'll have to add it to our list. Great video!

just found your channel and looking at getting a project M possibly. sorry about the camper damage but i love that you are out there pushing it and getting to places other will not go!
@scottalpine
@scottalpine 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching. I figured I was pushing it going on that trail, my own fault for not getting out and double checking on the clearance. I was between a Project M and an Alaskan but figured the M would save me quite a bit of money and I could make my own basic set up in the interior. The next video (when I film it) will have more of a basic build going on inside.

That's impressive. I have a 2012 250, 6.2 gas and I'd think twice about that one. Nice work.

Thank you. It’s definitely not the easiest fit in some spots but with patience and getting out to look it wasn’t too bad.

excellent video ! I was almost cringing in fear when I saw your truck rocking sideways in some spots. Was so worried it would tilt over on its side. of course we know that if you post the video it means you are back safe and sound but still that was scary. this road was more that moderate 4x4 ! the campsite with the lake was gorgeous though. With snow this road must be impassable given the steepness of those already scary parts
@scottalpine
@scottalpine 10 месяцев назад
Thanks! It was a rocky rolly road for sure. I imagine some folks would attempt it in the snow but definitely not me. The lake and campsites at the end are a wonderful way to end to journey… till it’s time to head out.

Oregon is awesome. I’m a terrible fisherman, I get bored pretty quick but need to give it another go soon. A lot of amazing places can be reached in stock rigs.

Crazy -- this is difficult enough in a lifted F150 with a spotter.
@scottalpine

There was a lot of getting out and walking ahead to see the trail and pick a line to get through. Fortunately the 250 sits pretty high in stock form so I was able to slowly meander my way up there.
