It's fun to go back to the start and end of a generation to see how much games have progressed. Digital Foundry have been doing god's work preserving the satisfaction of advancement from one generation to the next.
They barely progressed lol xbox 360 is close to xbox one in terms of graphics it shows how powerful the xbox 360 really is the only difference is the vegetation because the rest it's the same thing
@@imnotshub no i'm not there is no difference beteween xbox 360 and xbox one they are basically the same thing the only difference is the vegetation and some textures are better on xbox one apart from that it's the same thing
I can still remember when I first saw Final Fantasy 8's summons and thought the graphics were incredible. I can still remember watching a trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2 and thinking it looked almost real. I can still remember when I saw Gears of War's graphics for the first time and my jaw literally dropped at the level of detail. Each time I had one of these experiences, I kept thinking to myself: "I don't know how it can get much better than this." And now we live in an age where games are scrutinised over ever last pixel, every last frame, every last mass of polygons and shaders. People line up shots and gifs of FH2, Project Cars and Driveclub and blast each game over immensely tiny details. Me? I'm just enjoying living in an age with games that look better than my child-self would've ever believed possible. =) (All three games look amazing IMO, and I think racing fans should just be thankful that we have such choice rather than argue over the 'best'. I'm buying Driveclub and Project Cars and if I had an Xbox One, I'd definitely buy FH2. I just happen to not have the money for both consoles.)
The Xbox One version is a lot more colourful. Perhaps if they just added a bit more colour on the 360 version through the lighting or whatever, it would look a lot more lively.
Also, Forza Horizon 2 is a lot more open than Forza Horizon 1 therefore the resources are being stretched out more so they had to downgrade graphics. Surprising how well the cars look up close though.
Panda1375 Yeah but having a bigger map on the disc doesn't affect performance cause the whole map doesn't get rendered when you play, only a small portion of it does. They just didn't put much time in making X360 version maybe becaise of a budget. These textures look straight out of ps2 days.
If the gameplay is solid, who gives a shit what the graphics look like? It shouldn't matter, sure graphics can increase immersion but if I just want to pick up a game and go fro a few races, I'm not going to give a flying fuck what the graphics are. Maybe that's only me. I don't know.
Now before you ignore this, you need to read my thoughts and feelings on the differences. Especially for those who own an Xbox 360 and don't own (or cannot afford) an Xbox One. Even though the Xbox 360 version may use less lighting/environmental effects and offer lower resolution textures, as well as the lack of rain/weather effects and alternative off road races, I wouldn't stress too much over this. Graphics do not mean everything! On the bright side, they both offer the same sound effects of the cars (one reason that I love Forza, even though I am a die-hard Gran Turismo fan). Even with all of these facts/differences in place comparing between the two different consoles versions, even though I own an Xbox 360 but not (yet) an Xbox One, nothing makes me hesitant to buy the Xbox 360 version. I enjoyed the first Forza Horizon game (yet again, I am big Gran Turismo fan), so I will be enjoying this one too and I will be planning to grab myself a copy from GAME during my lunch break hour the next time I go to college. I will enjoy the Xbox 360 version, be so determined to complete it! And then when I get my hands on an Xbox One (and hopefully a PS4 too, as I am a gamer who is writing this), I will do the same thing again, this time with the extra dynamics/improvements, meaning two playthroughs to look forward too, instead of it being over after just one. Anyway, hope you have read and took notice of this due to the time it took for me to write this, I thought I will just put my own personal point across to those who need consumer advice on buying either (or even both) version(s) of Forza Horizon 2! -Marcus Terry-Bedford
I wasn't going to buy forza for xbox 360 cuz there is no point, Your missing out the whole experience in graphics and the racing physics for X1 are much better than 360.drifting,steering,graphics and weather conditions and even cars X1has more exclusive cars than 360 which sucks Might just save up and get a X1 It's GOINg to be in other games aswell I'll bet u any money that everything is going to change, Everybody is going to get X1 Games like THE CREW, COD AV ,FIFA 15, the evil within and more... Just give up Everything is now just about next GEN and 1080p Just need to give up the old days and start again. Just like the iPhone 6 Everything is an upgrade with improvements and at some point everybody is going to get the iPhone 6 Bye bye 4s
KEVIN GAMING Yes, I totally agree with you here. I had no plans what-so-ever to buy a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One because the variety of games available are multi-plaform, so there is 100% no point what-so-ever in purchasing a next generation system, when you can play it on last generation. The better graphics just aren't worth justifying $400+. However now that there are more PS4/XBO exclusives being released, it may be worth considering. As you said, The Crew and DriveClub! And yeah. X360 version of Horizon 2 looks like it is on graphical level with PS2. Where as the XBO version looks more on track of next generation. One thing I do like about the X360 versions of FH2, is that it supports the Official Microsoft Force Feedback Wheel (ya know, the ones which sell for loads used). I am not sure about Xbox One, if that version supports the Thrustmaster TX or not? If anybody knows, feel free to speak up. -Marcus
+Marcus Terry-Bedford sorry for late reply I had the game on XB360 And now have it on XB1 trust me its differnet not same races the races on xbox one are a lot better and more fun and harder which make u enjoy more2.The Huge Difference on graphics between xb360 and xb1 make the game look a lot better and fun to play on xb13.The Autoshow on xb1 have much more cars that the xb360 one 4.Bucket List challenges aren't the same they are 100000000000times better on XB15 RoadTrips On XB1(The Game is a roadtriping game) are a lot more fun u go with the crew enjoy with ur new car for the destination and earn CR AND XP6.more radio stations (This may not be important but its nicer)7.racing physics on xbox 100 times better on xb1 its very realistic 8Its time to upgrade to next genthere is much more to say !
EverythingAboutGta Thank you very much for the reply. I recently re-purchased "Forza Horizon 2" on the Xbox One and I agree, it is much better! And that includes all the extra features you listed in your comment. Thank you for your time replying to such a long ago comment, you are correct! :-)
Thank you for providing this video. I was unsure on weather I should get an Xbox One with FH2 and FM5 or get a Xbox 360 as it is cheaper. This comparison has helped me make my decision. I'll be getting the Xbox One version. :)
Xbox 360...................ONLY 512MB of unified GDDR3 and 10MB of eDRAM. I love to see how a console which is a closed system can be pushed to the very limit and optimized to make these games work. You take a PC with the same (or approximate) specs of the 360 and try to play Forza 2 on it and it will be almost impossible. Make me remember of Doom 3/Half Life 2 playing on the original xbox. amazing work to all those devs that optimized those console ports to work on a pentium 3 733mhz and a geforce 3.5ish with ONLY 64MB of RAM!!!
I can't believe how jealous PS4 owners are of Horizon 2. What, Driveclub not good enough for you guys? I heard one day Driveclub is going to patch in replays, weather effects, and a photo mode. You know, the things that even mobile phone racing games have standard now, lol.
Nossa! PT-BR Sorry for Language, I not speak English.
I must admit I am quite impreaaed with the 360 version and the effort put into it but without being a direct downgraded version is very appreciated. If I only liked racing sims...
I think if enough time is spent on optimizing games on the 360 more than they are doing now, it can achieve a little bit more. Like Halo 4. It looks like a game made for Xbox One. But it was optimized so much, it can run on 720p HD 30fps which isn't bad for almost 10 year old hardware.
I think the developers watered down the 360 version on purpose to make the xbone version stand out and to give the illusion of a generational gap between consoles.
I know the 360 is almost 10 years old but Jesus Christ they made the backgrounds look like they were out of a PS2 game. Forza Horizon 1 on the 360 looked much better than this. Then again, it wasn't competing with a better console.
This game is pretty much the reason why I would consider getting an Xbox. Forza has always been the game that I've been jealous of, and yet I still never got an Xbox since it didn't have anything else that was interesting. And the situation is still the same, Forza is the only game that interests me on Xbox.
Born2pwn1 Yeah, that's why I've been keeping from getting one. It has only one game that I'm interested in, hence getting the console isn't a smart idea.
***** I'm a Playstation gamer, not a PC gamer. And yes, Xbone lacks games that I find interesting. Xbox 360 lacks interesting games beyond Forza as well.
Its February 2021 and just started playing FH1 on the 360 for about a week now. Wow what an awesome game. Deffo getting FH2 for my xbox1 in a couple of months time.
DigitalFoundry I'm getting mad at you... people said multiple times that they enjoy your commentary, mainly because it cleans many things up, why not keep it? Is it a time problem? Thanks for the awesome work, as always!
Hey, thanks for the kind words. It is mostly a time thing and we'll try to do more as resources increase. In the case of Forza Horizon, the differences were so vast, the standard comparison video just wouldn't cut it so it basically had to be done. Remember that in most cases, we do link to the full article beneath each video which explains our thinking but it would be great to do the entire thing on video too as it's clear we actually have two different audiences. Thanks again :D
DigitalFoundry WoW, you actually replied! I do read your articles, mainly because you add downloable/uncompressed samples and screenshots, and your verdict ofc. But I also appreciate the longer videos that have the commentary. It's not everyday that gaming sites are this direct with their viewers!
DigitalFoundry It's definitely nice to hear the comparisons in the video. I think it's unfortunate that so many on youtube won't read the articles and get the context or interesting perspectives on many of these comparisons. I really appreciated hearing about the different focus taken in each version to maximize the experience given the hardware. I have a newfound respect for the devs and the game!
Just playing the demo for this game is insane. Great looking and handling, super fun and go anywhere at break neck speeds. I've never played a game like this and it's freaking wonderful. Great job guys
The Black King A real gamer wouldn't down play other peoples system or methods of gaming, call people casuals even thought they love there gaming situation and they would most certainly recognize that there system doesn't ( and many never have) every gaming experience
I'm here to check out what i kind expect for the next Cross console generation leap due to games that comes out on Xbox Series X is also coming to xbox one. EDIT: Or maybe its just gonna be a 4k60fps series X - VS - Xbox one 900P30fps
ok, x360 hardware is outdated but i think they could easly make a better looking game. in my opinion, they highly downgraded it on purpose to convince x360 users to buy a x1 i don't like the water trails anyway
QuasiDgen - AAA is a classification term used for games with the highest development budgets and levels of promotion. A title considered to be AAA is therefore expected to be a high quality game and to be among the year's bestsellers.
Wow this looks sick. Looks like a whole new GTA game. I'm just amazed at the density level of cars and pedestrians being rendered. The foliage and draw distance looks sick. I can't to play this again on Xbox One.
@Santa in Sandals You commented the lamest shit on a 5 year old post. You seriously couldn't think of anything better? I'll bet any amount of money, you're under 18 years old. You weren't even allowed to play video games 5 years ago, AHAHAHAHA.
EDIT: I have thought about it a lot longer now and I now think it's probably not worth it. For starters, the colours are much worst than fh1 and the map is also quite bad mainly because of lack of trees and foliage which makes the world feel quite empty and gives a unfinished look. It obvious that the 360 can't handle a game like fh2 (the xbox one version) which was probably why fh1 is much better as the world is much smaller and doesn't have really any off road but it does have some. It is also why fh1 probably looks better as well. I think if you weren't going to get an xbox one or xbox series x then get fh1 but if you can get fh2 on 360 for very cheap, then maybe get it but if you compare fh1 and fh2 360, fh1 definitely looks better. Also playground games made fh1 but sumo digital made fh2 360 and playground games are the ones who have made fh1 fh2 xbox one, fh3, fh4 and fh5. If you want forza horizon but you not going to get xbox one or xbox series x for a long long time but you got the 360, the 360 version is probably worth getting, just my opinion
John Gotti I don't understand why looks so bad, i think maybe is because they used the Forza 1 engine to make the 360 version. I mean, it was that hard to use the same engine?? I thought because it looked so bad they will implement rain but they didn't and that was more a "We don't want" thing than a "We can't" thing. Take MGSV for example, it use the same engine in all the platforms and even with the graphics downgrade it was almost the same experience, has rain and you can drive cars too. Also MGSV is a action/stealth game so it's even more difficult to program but they did an amazing job!
Fun fact is game alteration for console port happened a lot in the PS2 xbox era, game like Chaos Theory had the level cut in half for PS2 and game cube.
@@alucard2696 Haha. Eu tava brincando com o outro ai que acha que FH2 vai pro PC. E falando serio uma versao Android 1:1 e tecnicamente possivel, considerando a velocidade dos aparelhos mais recentes, mas muito pouco provavel pelo historico da Microsoft.
Most people who don't realize the difference either A) play console so the 30fps is all they get B)Don't play games that often and assume the 24 fps Motion Blur movies & Frame Fill-in of their TV is silky smooth. C) Believe the 24 fps is the eye's limit. (Science: Its the threshold from when audio sync and video to be filmed wont suffer as much, thus cutting costs of filming)
Damn FH looked better than FH2 on Xbox 360 what the hell was Sumodigital doing. Go and watch FH 1 and look at number 2 on Xbox 360 I was scratching my head. But you have to remember that FH 1 was made by the original Dev not Sumo so goes to show you how good devs for FH 1 are.
+HyperShadeTutorials Well sumo is a great developer. It's the hardware that the issue with fh2 the maps are alot bigger so to keep the draw distance decent they have to spread out detail farther into the distance resulting in the need for lower polygon counts and less texture detail on everything in order to have more stuff on screen. With forza horizon 1 they would have designed the maps to make things look better, where this was designed to run on a system that was way more powerful first then ported back. It's a miracle they fit it in as well as they did.
+HyperShadeTutorials The map and complexity of the Forza Horizion 2 world is much more vast than FH1. Sumo Digital can only do so much without destroying certain basic parts of gameplay.
Dan Castellaneta Yeah I totally agree with that. I think they focused less on environments and more on cars. Also you are correct FH2 environments are much bigger than FH a valid point sir.
No doubt xbox one version look better but I am glad that the xbox 360 was not forgotten when they made this game. C'mon xbox 360 still holds up well for a decade plus old console and back in it's hey days it has given us lotsa really good racing games. Respect this console for what it is and enjoy the game. Gameplay above graphics, although to me the 360 ver looks alright and is still enjoyable:)
I liked horizon 1, but I think this new one on 360 was so lazy, I cant believe the lack of grass and trees, somebody will say that is because the 360, but TDU was one of the first games and has better trees and rocks and roads than this lazy try of game
It's because of the hardware limitations. Horizon 2 let's you go off road which takes up more memory. Horizon 1 barely has off road which means it can have better graphics
Guys, I think the developers watered down the 360 version on purpose to make the xbone version stand out and to give the illusion of a generational gap between consoles. Well that's my theory.
i think it's actually because of an extended support for the Xbox 360 until 2019, that's why we're still getting FIFA and COD for the Xbox 360. and maybe because of all the negative backlash from the hardcore Forza fans, they decided to drop the support in FM6
I played Forza Horizon 2 presents Fast&Furious on Xbox 360 and it looked nicer than in this video. The lighting at dusk has changed and they removed the green tint. The environment textures don't look broken anymore. There is no disc-version of it and the world is a lot smaller.
This game was janked for the 360. The graphics of this game on the 360 look like the 2001 Xbox. The 360 can do just as good as the One can, but I guess they pretend the 360 is complete shit all of a sudden.
Why is it that newer Xbox 360 games look worse than the old ones? The grass and trackside scenery in the last-gen version looks worse than Forza Motorsport 2!
too bad the 360 version of FH 2 was not properly ported by Turn 10 themselves, cos the port is pretty bad, i love the game so much, that i got it on 360 to try it, and i was stunned to see that FH 1 was 10 times better looking and better overall than this lazy port, but when i had the Xbox one with FH 2, i sold my FH 2 Xbox 360 copy, that the only Forza game i will not keep ^^ ( but i got it on Xbox one ^^) so happy about FH BC news, and FH 3 coming up.
What can you expect you took a game that was designed for 5 gb of ram and with power to allow bigger maps and ported it back to an engine that was used for a smaller map and less foliage. It's basicly taking the same amount of polygons, but spreading it over a bigger area so things will be less detailed.
i tottaly agree, but if u compare forza horizon 1 made and tuned by playground games for the 360 and this port , it's ay and night , what i meant was if the game was tailored to the 360 like the first one, and not ported by sumo digital but made by playground games, i would have been as nice and beautiful as the first one ... and it's clearly not the case... of course the 360 can't handle the same graphics and stuff on screen as the one xD
***** Considering forza horizon 2 is doing more, it's expected, now if this was Forza Motorsport, we wouldn't be having this conversation. you idiots act like driveclub looks vastly better, it doesn't. get over it. it sure as hell doesn't beat it in quality and content. two things that matter the most.
***** That's cool, I won't argue with that, but that doesn't change the so-called "fact" below, LMAO!!! "Oh and I so happen to have played Forza and its better than any car game on PS4 - FACT" What you described is your OWN OPINION, LMAO!!!
***** Best car game? LMAO, you wish! www.metacritic.com/game/playstation/gran-turismo Sorry XTwat, but that award goes to Gran Turismo on the PS1, LOL!!!
***** Completely different graphics. Comparing the PS4 and Xbox One specs reveals that the Xbox One is in fact weaker than the PS4. Not weak, just weaker. I wouldn't call it powerful but it's not weak.
The visuals of Horizon 2 surprised me considering the Xbox One hardware. Shows that there is something to say for optimization for only one type of machine, where the hardware is always the same. This shows that if things are done right you can make pretty low end hardware do a lot of work.
This game is absolutely astonishing, really sets the benchmark for open world arcade racing games, its just a real shame the devs are with xbox. This game would really shine on pc and ps4.
FH2 is an open world game. You can't compare its graphics to a circuit track racing game. So many clueless commenters. Also FH2 has a more realistic physics model which means the XOne is too busy crunching physics to pump out 60fps. It's the first game that makes me want to buy an XBox One.
I hadn't seen this and was looking for the game on 360 in the shops today. Fortunately they had sold out as I would've been very disappointed and I may just have the reason I needed to make the jump and buy an XBone. Thanks for the great comparison.
this game on xb1 looks beautiful probably the best looking next gen game with ryse but its not just the graphics car list is amazing more than 200 different cars from different manufactures a big open world with loads of events, bucket list, showcase event,barnfinds....the amount of content here is mindblowing ASSSSstation 4 is not capable of handling these type of open world games DC is absolute shit the online is completely broken even 1 month after the release and the ps plus version is gone.loll.i played the demo on media market and it was terrible everything is bad from car handling to physics and car list even the graphics aren't that great sony u fuked it up so far this generation people should stop giving their hard earned money to sony they don't deserve it
I was testing the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions and I can clearly say that the Xbox 360 version is Forza Horizon 1 with the Forza Horizon 2 map. Clearly this is real because there are many differences, sounds, interface, in the area of difficulty is not possible to add simulated damage, only aesthetic on the other hand that is completely curious is that in Forza Horizon 2 X360 is preserved the demonstration area of vehicles to buy the first Forza Horizon. On the other hand something that is totally different are the physics, easily in the first game you can put difficulty "invincible" to the npc and you can still win easily, you can skid the vehicle tends to lose less control, on the other hand on Xbox One if it is different. Even so I am amazed that they have made a game for Xbox 360 to enjoy the experience of new generation in a console of 2005.
not everyone is a loser, not everyone gives a shit about a frame rate of 60fps.... shit...before the xbox 1 and ps4 came out console gamers didn't even know what fps was.
Drew P. Balls I honestly don't care for an extra 30fps, I've known what fps is years before new gen and can tell a very small difference but i don't give a shit when it comes down to it. The only difference is that it just feels smooth at 60, still does at 30, just not as much. Honestly have no clue why people moan about fps as long as its not below 30 it doesn't matter at all.
Paul Smith how mane fps do you get on league of legends and any other of the 1000 pc exlusive games? leave aside the fact that it is a console exlusive (for now, it can be on pc on the future) the fact that current gen consoles run at 30 fps is really bad.
Maybe there's a need to make the new console to look better than the old one, but I think that the XBOX 360 version has been made for looking worse than the XBOX One version on purpose, there are many elements not shown in such version like the trees better designed, more shadows and a better detailed road, maybe I'm wrong, but I think that NFS MW from 2012 looks better with most filled environments. In other words, I think the 360 is still capable to show almost the same graphics that the XBOX One, in this game at least.
Graphics look as good as they can be on the 360 but obviously so much better on Xbox One, with far more detail, better lighting and weather effects. Sumo Digital did a great job on the 360 though, it has to be said.
lautaroanonimus Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. I play 360 and I was so hyped once I got Forza Horizon 2. Once I put the game in my hopes and expectations went down the drain, becuase they took out most cars they said they were gonna put in, no rain, same graphics from first horizon, no season pass/Dlc's, and less ways to hang out with freinds online. They didnt put any work into the 360 version, the xbox one version is so greatly improved that in comparison it feels like Im just playing the demo of xbox one's horizon 2. Sumo & turn 10 have enraged the 360 players and are giving up on them, they are about to lose a lot of valuable players/buyers
The only “real” complaint I have here is the color. The colors on the 360 look a little bland, they look like they switched the color temperature from “Normal” to “Cool” on a TV. Everything else is understandable, they did have to optimize Horizon 2 for an older and less powerful console.
The devs did what they could. Some of the car models on xbox360 look better than I expected. Environments are ass but... its running on 9 year old hardware so we should all cut it some slack.
QuasiDgen - of course they are developed by different team who are lazy. Clearly we see that Microsoft making last gen worse to make current gen better.
Mohammed Aariff FH1 also wasn't as open world as FH2 is. The larger the game world is, the more it takes a hit on graphics because those resources are being stretch rendered to the expanded locales
probably nerfed it to push people to next gen. You will see a lot of this, new games not reaching their potential, looking worse than older titles. every other older Forza on the 360 looks way better than this. less pop in, better draw distance, love how they take out the rain and wet in the 360 version when its been included before and in other games. They cant tell me only "next gen" can produce rain and wet in games. Dont give me that "open world" bigger map crap, Ill just point you to GTA5
The Xbox360 version looks like an upscalled PS2 game. What a terrible job they have done, the X360 is capable of much more. The Xbox One version only shines during wet weather, because during daylight it does nothing more than the expected.
legocrew10001 I was kidding...i just wanted to see how much popolarity i would have gained by saying that the XBO sucks. I got 5 Thumbs up,really impressing. I both like XBO and PS4 , but i prefer XBO over the PS4 because of Halo.
Thank you DF for putting an end to those who claims that there's not much difference between the 360 and XB1 versions. Great game on both but its clear to say the 360 is now ancient hardware.
Man... it's very sad to see this, they were making bad ports just to people buy the Xbox One, probably the same thing will happen with the Xbox One They will make bad ports to people buy the Series X
