Fossil Falls is a BLM area along California's Highway 395. It has a campground, interesting history, a dry volcanic waterfall and intriguing geology! Definitely worth an overnight or two stop as you travel up or down the 395 in the Owens Valley! Join us on our overnight stop for a look at the campground and Fossil Falls. We recommend smaller RVs or tents. Only pit toilets and a hand water pump - not much else! Drive with care & caution as you enter the camping area - sharp rocks - hey it is a lava bed. We had a large pull thru site with a picnic table, firepit and awesome view. Pack it out please!

Thanks for stopping by! This is an old video - we are now full time in our Grand Design XLS 17MKE and have traveled through over 35 states. For our last visit to Highway 395 and one of our favorite campgrounds along this stretch of highway: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SERJKUxkfNA.html

I love the 395 and here a cool unknown area I didn't know about. Great job explaining everything about the landscape.

We love it too and wished we had more than the 10 days we had! There is a lot more to see than what I showed, but just not enough time to do a full exploration!

Very good review! I love the views from the park! The dry falls were very unique.

Thank you ~ the falls were a little hard to capture on video. Sure didn't want to get too close to the edge!

It was interesting and relatively easy to get to even towing a trailer! We had cell service too. I am sure there is a lot more to see, but it was my birthday so I was being lazy... Thanks Gary!

Thank you! I will be posting a video in the next week of a place similar to Fossil Falls - except the place is green and has water rushing over the lava rocks!

Thanks Shane! It was a neat and quiet place! Easy to get to ~ a little washboard on the road, but not too far off the highway and the views!

Congrats on getting your trailer! Which one did you end up getting? How exciting! There is a LOT to see along the 395 and this was definitely a cool little stop. Thanks for watching Dusty!

Travel Small Live Big I got the Viking 17FB. Only pulled it 25 miles to storage. Planned on Jalama Beach today but rescheduled due to heavy rain. I'd like to make a quick trip to Lone Pine before next month.
@TravelSmallLiveBig
@TravelSmallLiveBig 6 лет назад
Nice layout on that (googled it earlier)! Jalama would not be the place to be right now ~ they are getting hammered with this storm! Up the 395 sounds like a lot less rain for sure :)

Kind of sad about the water being diverted out of the area...all too common as the population increases. Ken remembers days when there were river otters and lots of turtles in the Eel river in Humboldt county CA. Now, not so much. I always enjoy your videos! Great info....I am compiling a playlist of SoCal campgrounds, for my future reference, and so far, most of the vids are yours.
@TravelSmallLiveBig
@TravelSmallLiveBig 6 лет назад
It is sad... drained Owens Lake. We saw otters in the McCloud River a few years ago - it was AMAZING! I had never seen an otter (other than sea otters) in the wild. Old video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SGgLmErQKdU.html I would love to see more of them and turtles too! Thanks for the kind words - happy you enjoy my videos - I sure have fun making them! We live in Ventura, so let me know if you are coming through! Thanks again :)

Do I need a RV / trailer to stay at the campground? Can't I just sleep in my Toyota matrix?🤔🤔🤔
@TravelSmallLiveBig
@TravelSmallLiveBig 6 лет назад
alphaphotoandvideo Hi! No you do not - you can tent camp or sleep in your vehicle - there are pit toilets there too.

From the reviews I've read, they said the rocks on the road were really sharp. I just bought a Subaru for my adventures but I don't want sharp rocks puncturing my tires.
@TravelSmallLiveBig
@TravelSmallLiveBig 6 лет назад
Hey Christopher! I think you would be ok - just go really slow and avoid a few places where the rocks really stick out. We have average truck tires on our truck and we really only had to avoid a couple of sharp places. Our trailer has really good tires - no problems at all. If you have someone with you, have him or her walk ahead and direct you. It think the Subaru would do just great and it's not that long of a road anyway! Hope you get out there ~ it was kind of cool! -Heather

the falls may flow again if only they let more water flow back into the owens river.

Hello, Your video is very nice. I am a big fan of "Huell Howser, California Gold"TV show on public television and this place was featured in one of his shows, which also brought me to YT and I am glad I click on your informative video this morning as we are going on a short pre Thanksgiving camp out with family and the information is very helpful. Thank you, ~~ Karen P.S. sub'd and fav'd for more ideas/trips to go to

Karen Calypte thank you! We love watching Huell’s shows too - we miss him. Super cool area - just visited the Rogue River Gorge in Oregon - looked just like Fossil Falls but with water! Amazing place. Will have a video on it in a few weeks.
