Awesome! Thanks for the offer. We'd actually love to take you up on that when the weather starts to cool off a little bit. I'd be glad to return the favor and show you around some FL sites sometime if you're in the area.

I’ve lived in central Florida all my life and I wish to heck I knew where some of the creeks are, besides Peace River. Another thing is as far as fossils are concerned how the heck can you tell bones from rocks?? Then know what it is. I’d just have to scoop up all the rocks.

I hunt too. I hunt everything from petrified wood to every fossil. I was told look for what doesn’t look like it belongs. With that I found more than everyone in our group even the repeat person in the area. Vertebrae’s and sharks teeth. I am in East Texas

Why do all the people who aren't trying arrowhead hunting always find the nicest points? That's nicer than any points I've ever found!
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
It's probably the area more than anything. If you find fresh water around here and a farmer's field close to it, you're going to find artifacts. The area was fairly densely inhabited for a long time...Freshwater springs, an abundance of stone for making tools, lots of wildlife, etc. The downside in this state is we cannot hunt for or keep this stuff from rivers or any other state land, only private.
@blakemayes7221
@blakemayes7221 6 лет назад
@@PaleoCris yea, I guess I should check creeks more. I mainly search fields and shores of lakes. Oh, and the type of point is probably some sort of Dickson variation. It's just I've been arrowheads hunting in ky for about 2 years now and I've still not found a point of that size and with those serrations. Some of my points are my profile picture.

Do you guys find teeth in every screen ? Just wondering , when we screen for Cretaceous sharks teeth it's common to have 20 or more in a screen . That is an absolutely Beautiful arrowhead you found . It is more likely a knife .
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
It all depends on the site. I have sites where I've found over 100 teeth in a single screen (quality wasn't great, though), and other sites where you rarely find a tooth in a screen. Most places we hunt, like the place in this video, will at least have a few small teeth every screen.
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
Oh, and I agree on the point likely being a knife...but that's not a very good search keyword, haha.

First thing killer arrowhead!! I do very similar hunting as you . Just wanted to let you know may not want to post artifacts being pulled out of anywhere that is below high water line. I stay very far from any swamp or creek only dig dry land! State of Florida that is a felony just giving you a heads up. Enjoyed the video and subscribed
@PaleoCris

It is not illegal if on private land with owners permission in florida to pick up artifacts. I am not sure if this applies to creeks as they are considered a tributary to the rivers and such.. It is something you may want to look into.
@carmenbooify
@carmenbooify 5 лет назад
regardless, ethics shouldn't be overlooked. whether its state or private, it isn't your culture and therefor all artifacts need to be turned over.

I just found out about this today and I’m super curious: how can you find such diverse fossils in one place?
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
Great question. We have a very rich geological history in Florida. Probably the primary factor is that FL is basically a huge ancient coral reef and there's limestone underlying the entire state...with that limestone comes a lot of very mineral rich water which means that fossils form easier than many other places. On top of that, FL has been underwater and back to dry land multiple times and in that fluctuation, a lot of erosion happened, exposing fossils from all sorts of time periods. In some places, fossils from multiple periods can be found deposited in the same place from all the erosion.

@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
+Joshua Gammon I dont know of many creeks or rivers in MD that have fossils, but I have heard of them being there...just find a hood geologic map and look at a topo map showing how cut each creek or river is...the geo map will tell you what the creek is cutting into, the topo will tell you how far.

I thought keeping any indian artifacts here in FL was a crime , saw a guy in the st. johns get fined and items confiscated while I was fishing . I didn't know wildlife officers could enforce those laws since they have nothing to do with fishing or hunting but it sure is a great find
