Thanks for all these videos! I've got an old Fostex 812 mixer and I'm in the process of setting up a new studio - you've definitely convinced me it's worth the cabling to get it set up for both recording and summing!
Thanks so much! The 450 is earlier so I'm sure the 812 will sound better as it likely has newer versions of the 4558 opamps than the 450. These small Japanese made recoding mixers are always reliable and not too noisy. I also tend to like the EQ on them.
@@TwinCreekAudio Good to know! I bought it a few years ago for super cheap on ebay and the seller informed me it used to belong to Edwin Starr! I did a few recordings on it and it definitely added some nice vibes and I remember EQing a snare and getting some nice thump as well as 5k bite on it!
Bought one at a local Music go round for $75.00 6 months ago. Pretty rough. got another for $50.00 even rougher. took the best parts of the 2 and made one real nice refurb. I have the 8 track reel to reel to match, so now I have the same set-up I had in the late 80's. Found some new / old reels on E Bay. A fun project.
My 450 was fully functional but kind of rough appearance wise. It still worked 100% when I tested it. I had an R8 to match it but I sold that earlier this year since I also have an MSR-16. I always thought the 450 would sound thin and bad but I was wrong about that. I guess the ones I saw in use back in the 80s just weren't being used correctly or the recording device didn't sound that good. My 450 sounds fine and works great. I really think these are underrated as far as the way they sound. The appearance may be a little '80s retro but the reliability and sound are very good. I'm considering buying another Fostex console or maybe the expander for my M-35 to work with the MSR-16 and simplify the setup I have now with digital and analog connected to the same console on different channels.
@@Tangstr thank you! I found it difficult at first to balance enough detail without going on and on making it boring to watch. It was a steep learning curve when I started the channel 5 years ago. I really appreciate your comment.
