A review of the WonderPana 66 wide angle system holder that I use with my Nikon 14-24mm wide angle lens. It is used to hold filters both neutral density and variable neutral density and both square and round filters.
I ordered one today for a sigma 14-24 - like i now have a uv for protection is worth it alone- luckily the sigma take rear nd filters, but i did order the 145mm cpl, i feel your pain cha ching…. Be interesting to know how it worked for for you years later-
Hello Ben, I just ordered mine and it will be here next week. I started with the clear UV circular filter to serve as a lens protector combined with the lens cap for street photography. BTW, I plan on using a tiny dab (pinhead) of Blue 242 Loctite on those pesky screws. It's the semi-soft version so if used very sparingly, you can still loosen the screws when the brackets are not mounted. Those darn fasteners really should be of a captive design so maybe someday. As a former Leica shooter with Leica primes and my Sony A-mount with Zeiss glass, I don't mind investing in gear that leverages the potential of the lens while protecting the front element.
Please fellow photographer. In your experience does this filter damage or scratches your lens. i read this review and putting off to buy, i can only ask people who honestly have used it. Look: This was a nice idea, but beware, these units cause all kinds of problems including leading to lens damage. The unit has bare metal tension fasteners. After only a couple of uses, I noticed significant gouging on both the lens hood and the lens diaphragm (at 14mm, the diaphragm rides right up to the edge of the hood). The unit also creates metal dust every time I use it, leading me to have to clean it just to install it. Lastly, it comes loose all the time, which leaves me having to remove it from the body and tighten it back up. If you leave it connected to the body while you tighten it, then you'll risk damaging the aperture rod in your camera, and causing damage to both the lens and the body. If you really need a CPL or ND filter, get a Nikon 16-35, and use your precious 14-24 for everything else. On the other hand, if you like having a cheap piece of metal damage a $2,000 lens, then by all means, buy this product. I APPRECIATE YOU INSIGHT!
+Marcos Enrique II Ruiz Rivero (Aviel is Superguide) I literally have had none of the issues you speak of Marcos. I am sorry to hear you have. My unit has never once come loose after being set up on the lens and it has definitely never scratched my lens. I do take extreme causation when putting it on to make sure of that though. I personally love the metal fasteners because the product is very durable and I don't have to worry about it breaking in travel. My lens is about 4 years old and my WonderPana system is about a year and a half old and I still use them all the time and with no problems. I appreciate you giving your point of view though and I hope you find a good solution to your problem. Good luck!
