@@Rolling_Coasters lol yeah no one cries because they accidentally hit a kid that he doesn't even know. Gotta pretend to cry so you don't ruin your image
@@daydreamingunicorns8054 actually there is a statement on the tickets that says "they are not responsible for injuries sustained by foul balls or pieces of shattered bats" . And that you need to be "alert during the game".
Albert I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but you just displayed to millions what a good man is and proved that they still exist. Some things you can’t control... I got hit in the jaw mid game while I was pitching off a line drive by one of the biggest kids I’ve ever thrown against and I’ve hit a couple people with foul balls in my time so I understand both sides of the situation. That little girl is going to be your biggest fan, bud I guarantee it. I’m from Houston so I’ve always been an Astros man and I’ve been a Cubs fan since 02 and you sir are the pinnacle of why I am the fan I am. You’re the reason why baseball is the best sport in my opinion. All love.
Yeah it’s no joke. I got hit by a baseball smack dab in the forehead in youth baseball when I was about 10. It wasn’t nearly as fast (it bounced weirdly off the ground) but still hurt like hell. Prayers up to her and her family 🙏
@@laker4life36 it's scary. I saw a kid get hit at a bisons game before. It's triple a. The ball skipped off the cement and right into their stomach. I felt so bad. At the same place I had a foul go right between my head and someone else's. Would have been it. Or at least not all there anymore for me or the other person. It was so fast. The same day when the kid was hit there were two opposing players warming up and the player threw it high and the guy missed it. It skimmed off the side of my hat. An inch to the left and it's the middle of my face or head. I hate for anyone to get hit. But especially a kid. Absolutely hate seeing a kid get hurt or be in pain. Physically or emotionally. Kids deserve nothing but good happy times.
@@andyc9979 Yeah, this woman's life is going to be changed forever. This is just horiffic. I'm starting to question if we even need dangerous sports like this, if it's even worth it versus kids playing safer sports or learning actual valuable life skills instead like coding or something actually useful in the real world.
@@Miguel3R are you sure? I really hope so. I've loved baseball my whole life but this isn't worth it. It can't be this way like someone said it's just russian roulette with a 100mph ball flying in every direction. It's not worth it.
TreyAllDay that’s true but you can feel bad for the player too, he was obviously extremely upset that he did it even if it was an accident. Imagine if you had accidentally hit a child with a ball and gave them permanent brain damage because the stadium decided not to extend the netting for safety
Empathy should be felt for the little girl but also the player. Very sad what happened all the way around. Read she has permanent brain damage today. Just awful for everyone.
I don’t feel empathy for the player but I also don’t blame him. It wasn’t his fault that her parents made the poor choice of sitting their 2 year old daughter right behind the netting.
I was at the Astros game two days prior and my mind was constantly thinking about a foul ball coming my way. You just can't let your guard down. Especially when you have kids with you. I pray the little girl recovers to full health with no complications. I believe she will.
@@angelpaige5720 No they don't there are plenty of safe seats they could have sat in. It may be "too soon" but this is a prime example of poor parenting. Move up a deck, sit in the entire outfield, or behind the current net, etc. there are literally thousands of safe seats. Don't intentionally put your kids in harm's way then blame the league/team for the inevitable.
Golden Goat this is the dumbest comment I’ve ever read. This was a freak accident that was very unfortunate for everyone involved. It has nothing to do with poor parenting. They are sitting in good seats close to the field with a really good view. They were probably pretty expensive and I bet the parents worked hard to be able to buy those tickets and enjoy a baseball game with their daughter. I don’t think people should sacrifice their good seats just because they are worried about being hit by a foul ball. This is a matter of the mlb putting up more netting to prevent it from happening again in the future.
@@hunternielson9923 they definitely shouldn't put up netting from dugout to dugout though. It ruins the fan experience. Especially the people who show up 2 hours early to get signatures. Look at the Detroit tigers stadium. You will have 300 fans standing in one area climbing all over eachother trying to get a ball or signature. They make family friendly seats at all stadiums. Use them. Let the older kids with gloves sit in the "dangerous" seats. No reason to have a 3 year old that knows nothing about the game sitting right on the 3rd base line.
D Me agree but at the same time that ball is coming off the bat at a speed well over 100mph. Even if they had a glove or something the chance of them stopping it would even then be pretty low, unless they were a former mlb catcher. I used to be against the net but it’s this point I think they should do it
I wouldnt put a kid in that area of the stadium. But its impossible to react to a ball going that fast. I got hit in the shoulder by a foul ball, i saw the ball coming at me since it left the bat and only had time to lift my hand halfway and i was already hit. They go FAST
@@TiberiusRoll7 Not impossible. Some fans make incredible catches of screamibg liners - even bare-handed. Most games go off without anyone getting hit by fouls - line drives & pop-ups, fortunately. But without a net, the danger is always there.
Anne Liesveld there’s 162 games that each team plays in a season. Pick a different game to attend....there’s signs all over the place saying to be weary of your surroundings. If you’re not capable of doing that for yourself and little ones then you shouldn’t be sitting there.
@@why-even-try-brotendo As someone who has seizures themselves, this little one got really lucky. Seizures can be controlled with meds and a good diet (certain foods like all fake sugar have an effect on most people who have Seizures and cutting them out from your diet helps big time). I played ball at a high level and this has always concerned me. If you're at a field with little to no baseline net coverage, have your eyes open at all times. Even when I've sat in the stands I find it hard to not pay attention fully because of my safety and others around me. When I was about twelve, a hard line drive arched over the backstop net at an mlb game and I caught it right in front of my mom's face. If I hadn't of been there or paying attention, I'd hate to think of the damage that might have occurred. Hope the little girl is ok.
@@somethingnice7042 I was watching the news and they said she was OK... I don't think I will take money even if it's in the millions for something like that to happen to one of my kids... God bless us all.
I feel bad for the situation, I hope the girl heals fast of course and for the player, remember you were playing the game and you didn’t do anything on purpose. I heard your radio statement and I would feel the same way, you had to shake it off and finish the game. Your a REAL person for wanting to her updates❤️
Imagine the pain of that player, just try to sympathize with it, I jumped into the stands once to save a basketball and leveled a 6 year old girl, and I felt guilty even though she was obviously ok. I hope the girl is OK and I hope the player is forgiven by the parents but also himself
Anne Liesveld done my brother caught one with his hat, my dad with his bare hand and look up people online they catch it with their beer, I’m not putting a helmet on my kids, just pay attention
I hope she is ok. Almora was really shaken by it. I'll be rooting for Almora in the future he seems like a genuine nice person. I really hope the little girl makes a full recovery. I'm sure those two will be friends for a long time too.
More than a game. Albert's emotions overwhelmed him. He wasn't thinking about cameras, the other team, his mind was on that girl and if she was OK. Albert has 2 young sons. I'm glad the little girl is fine. Hope Almora is. You know those next at bats are going to be hard for him. Prayers for all.
Three bad decisions in a row. 1. Taking a 3 year old to a baseball game. 2. Sitting in line drive area. 3. Taking your eye off the game for one second while sitting in line drive area with a 3 year old.
I know. I've never got hurt by a foul ball in my whole life. Not when I saw the Jays play against the Red Sox in 2002, not against the White Sox in 2003 again, not in my life every summer in the recent times. Thanks for helping me reminisce. Today was a sad day.
This was an accident but in light of all the hate going on in the world and seeing reactions of people being compassionate to both people involved it is i deed heartwarming Yes this is humanity at its best Lets try to love each other more and more
Loveea, I gotta agree. There are multiple comments about bringing a child to a ball game, dangerous, judge judge blah blah... But the true testament of the average heart of the American citizen shows in the video. Instant reactions showing shock, concern, worry for an injured child, the balls player's reaction, all of those were instant reactions. The judgy preaching going on right now isn't accurate. It's a delayed RESPONSE, not the genuine REACTION the video can't hide. And the reactions show that even though we're a violent, judgemental, overly sensitive group of people (ALL of us Americans), we're good folks, on the average. We react with compassion. (I still believe in us, damnit)
Man, as a guy who played baseball in college you always hope to never have an accident like this one. Luckily I never did but this was always more bothersome to me than the possibility of losing, we'll have other games and at the end of the day that's what they are. But people's health is so much more important.
I feel so bad for the player. This is a very say day for baseball. As a Jays fan, I feel a little sad for this moment. Hoping that the kid would feel better soon.
Chilling video. So glad to know she is ok and almora is a great human being 4 showing his concern. As a yanks fan i am disturbed at comments that Mark teixeria made 2day in an interview with micheal kay. If it was your kid or u saw this live u would think differently
I cannot imagine the grief and remorse the baseball player must feel. It was a accident and of no fault of his. The anguish on his face was heartbreaking. The MLB needs to step up and provide more protective netting. The unfortunate child did sustain a major head injury.
@@unwaveringguilt I did read it. Praying does nothing. That's why this girl is literally growing up dealing with seizures now, for the rest of her life. Good job for your prayers ,really did something smh go read the news and drop the bible.
I personally waited to take my daughter to her first MLB game until she was about 4 1/2. Before the game, I told her this would be a lot of fun but we need to watch out for the ball being thrown or hit towards us. I was like a hawk the whole game, we had a few close calls but she was aware of that every time. I didn't drink or anything like that, just enjoyed the game with my daughter and paid attention. These days you see so many people talking with other fans and drinking way too much or with their faces stuck in their phones even with little kids around. Pay attention, stop looking at your phone, you don't need to smash down 3 beers just to enjoy or relax. Especially if your child is there and under your protection. I feel terrible for the player and the little girl. This happened once already and people don't learn. Hope this girl has minor injuries and nothing broken or needs any major surgery.
Some people will lug a baby in a damn carrier to a game...some people think they can't have a life once they have a baby.. .....it's called a baby sitter or leave the kids with their grandparents...but some people just won't do anything without dragging their child with them.
@@suzanne1430 Agree wholeheartedly, but even when you have a small child at the game, the parent should have protected the child. But he or she was probably looking at their phone. The child does not sit very high in the chair, so I'm curious how the ball didn't hit someone else first, like the person in the row ahead.
Because this isn't something expected. This could've happened to an adult, a teenager, a kid, not a toddler. It doesn't matter who you are, you have such little reaction time to protect yourself or someone else.
They need to seat parents with children under 12 in ticket sales behind the net in the future to all stadiums.. I feel the heart in the unimaginable that ball player too.Prayers for that little girl hit. She will be okay!
No they don’t need more netting. Do you know how many fans relish foul balls they’ve caught over the years? Very few serious injuries, by comparison. Your odds of being hurt or killed in a car wreck that day are higher.
jonathan sanchez They do, in some stadiums. But, to be fair.. one of the magic moments of baseball is catching a foul or homerun ball. These seats without nets are literally CALLED foul seats, and in many areas are even more expensive because you get the chance to catch and keep an MLB teams ball. While technique is a factor, Almora isn’t really at fault. Those parents had a choice to buy a netted seat and didn’t. It’s neither party’s total fault. But with the consecutive injuries.. I don’t know. I’d hate to see some of that magic go, and those seats are a known risk, but.. the safety of kiddos and the elderly is certainly more important.
He realized he may had killed her or injured her bad by accident. He has a good heart you can tell. How sad and Accidents happen. Thank The lord she survives.
That is very sad. Such a scary moment. At least the Cubs player was very concerned about the little girl. That security guard did a great job consoleling the Cubs player. Prayers for the little girl and her family.
These are the same fans that let their kids stand up at ice hockey games trying to catch a puck that's gets shot out of play that move in excessive a hundred miles an hour even though their safety netting around

The MLB needs to extend the nets...there have been way too many similar situations. Poor child
Beyond Almora and the other players’ reactions, I just want to mention that it kind of gives me hope for humanity just to see that brief clip at 0:52 of the moment it happens and how basically hundreds of human beings who have no idea who this girl is are so immediate and genuine in their reactions and concerns. It seems like almost that entire side of the stadium jumped to their feet and were calling for help, showing concern, etc. There are so many differences in beliefs and affiliations and such in today’s world, but a scene like that reminds me that the average stranger you might run into on the street or at a ball game is still a human being and our natural instinct is to care about each other.
This is unfortunate but now the family is represented by counsel. Astros owner tried to reach out to the family. This is a 2 year old celebrating her birthday. It’s risky for anyone being struck by a ball at a ball game. The players are upset, the fans are upset, anymore that sees this is upset and Astros owner is upset.
Because it obstructs the view of the fans. Baseball has been played over a century and it’s rare for someone to be hurt badly by a foul ball like that.
I would’ve cried if I had accidentally fouled a ball into the stands where it hit a child. You NEVER want to experience that, baseball player or not. It’s tough to watch but I’m glad the child is okay, if not visibly traumatized.
It's absolutely awful for an innocent little child to be hit. But I mean as a parent you can't stop paying attention for an instant. Plus, sit between your child and home plate. Don't text, don't do anything except be vigilant
Damn! Why will you bring a 3year old kid in a baseball game? Should’ve anticipated this scenario, kids has a delicate bones due to they are still developing/ growing. I feel sorry for the player and i wish the kid to get well soon.
There's no reason to bring a 3 year old child to a baseball game. And if you feel the need to do so for your own selfish reasons make sure they have head and ear protection
People keep suggesting nets. How about have children under 18 wear helmets in the more vulnerable sections? Let the adults take their chances. I don't really want to watch a game through netting. These types of injuries are rare hence the fact this made the national news. Making every child in certain sections wear a helmet would eliminate the need for nets as they would prevent 99% of life threatening injuries.
Marco Deo you’re oblivious to everything. Try to get out of the way of a baseball coming at you in over 100Mph. Guaranteed you get hit. How is everyone okay with blaming the parents? When it was an accident. Yes, even adults get hit by fouls
yes nunya lets cater to you because you dont want to watch in netting. eventually a child will be killed and thats what itll take for nets to be everywhere a foul ball can laser through
It is obvious that you don't have children or you would understand how ludicrous your statement is. All seats at a baseball came or any other sporting events should come with an expectation that it is safe to sit there. The exception would be if your ticket came with a very big and obvious warning about the danger. Tickets do not though some come with a disclaimer in microscopic print. You cannot blame parents in any case. It is up to the ballpark to either make the venue safe or put up warning signs. Not everyone who goes to baseball games is aware of the risks. My original suggestion stands though. If kids were either issued helmets or their parents were required to make their kids wear them in order to visit the park then the incident of injury would be reduced dramatically. Netting is a good idea but it obstructs the view unless they can come up with some sort of high tech filament netting that is invisible.
I didn't say don't give kids protection. I merely suggested an alternate form of protection that would be just as good and less obtrusive. I also never demanded anyone cater to me. Making an alternative safety suggestion does not constitute demanding you cater to me. Do you always demonize people for making reasonable suggestions?
Tragic, but my word, leave the parents alone. The odds of this little girl getting seriously injured in the car taking her to the game were higher than getting hit by a baseball. Just an unfortunate incident.
I know it’s not the guy’s fault but I’m just appalled to the fact that media are more worried about him rather than checking with that little girl. They can’t even check her real time condition.
Heart goes out to that Lil lady. 💔Horrible. But also that hitter is a great soul. Obviously he feels terrible about what happened even tho he couldn't even control it.
Kids like her age shouldn’t be there in the first place. Does she knows where she’s at? Does she know ms what team she’s in? NO because SHE IS A KID! These kind of sports are NOT for younger kids like that. At the end of the day, that was parents responsibility, and they were irresponsible for bringing a little baby like her over there! I feel so bad that some people do terrible at parenting and the kids suffer the consequences of the “parents” actions. Hopefully she can fully recover from the injury and seizures and continue with her normal life 😢
About 1,750 fans are hurt each year by foul balls at MLB games, citing an analysis by Bloomberg. This equates to a rate of roughly two injuries per every three games, making a fan injury from a foul ball a more common occurrence than a batter being hit by a pitch. The balls are faster, the seats are closer, the solution is called protective netting, and it must be extended beyond the current limits and used on all stadiums. Teams are not liable for medical expenses, by buying a ticket there, you're fully responsible for any ball events.
I don’t really understand why people take small children and even babies to baseball games. Or rallies where they can get hurt. I would never put my child in that kind of danger. My husband didn’t take our daughter to baseball games until she was about 12 or 13 years old. One of the comments said they thought she had brain damage. I pray that whatever happened to her that God will heal her and take care of her. And that her parents won’t put her in that kind of danger again.
Most of us who are parents, (and people in general), find it difficult to see a little child get hurt. Almora needs to forgive himself.....it was an accident. Glad to hear she is doing ok....kudos to the parents for rushing her off to get help.
Why not? They're fun, exciting, the hot dogs, the cheering. Lots of fun for a 4 year old. And of course they don't have to stay for the full 9 innings. Gotta be super alert, 4 year olds are quick and a stadium has lots of people, but that's nothing new to parents. It sucked that she got hurt, but a ball game is awesome for kids!
Let be emphasize...I'm not disagreeing with you on 2-3 year olds being there. That is a bit young, I'd think. This girl was four. But younger than that, yeah.
I hope for safety for all fans and players...I was at this game last night... The young lady cried and her dad was understandably emotional when consoling her.. They took her to the hospital as a precaution..... There are dozens of fans that have actually taken serious injury down the baselines and they were never mentioned on the news.. search foul ball accidents and see what comes up...
That would scare the living hell out of me and why are those stupid parents setting that close to field. Never sell tickets to kids in a seat to get hit is that so hard. I don’t care how it affects the players as much as the child.
I thought this incident would happen soon base on people (ignorance) bringing young child/infants to ballgames. People should never bring young infants to baseball games -- it's very dangerous. But it happens a lot and look what happens to this girl. Infants are not paying attention to long ball games like adults (their more likely to fall asleep), even though adults get hit too. Furthermore the extreme loud noise fatigue is bad for the child which may lead to hearing loss. If people can't get a baby sitter then stay home in watch it on TV. The MLB should have a age restriction for these ballgames. The MLB Commissioner should be notified for age restriction.
From the camera angle it looked like the little girl was sitting in his lap. That is pretty hard to protect her when she is in your lap. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
