@@jogman262 It's a beautiful tradition that has NOTHING to do with the comment to which you're responding. It demonstrates contempt for the opposition. "I would otherwise love this souvenir. I've coveted a ball since I was a little boy -- but not if it was hit by the opposing team. A souvenir like that is worthless to me. I only want one hit by the team with whom I live and die." I wonder what team you're a fan of? Do you know that when I first went to Wrigley Field, there were crowds of only 3,000 or 5,000? Do you know how much misery and heartache Cubs fans have endured? And still we loved them, and rode the 'l' to games in a brick ballpark in a real neighborhood. My mother worked like a dog 'til she was 89 years old -- on her feet, at the end commuting an hour each way to work. Neither of my parents graduated even from high school, but they sent me to Yale (undergrad) and to Harvard. My mom had a stroke when she was 91, and I gave up my theatre company in Los Angeles to move back to Chicago and become her full-time caregiver. I did that for nearly 7 years until she passed away at the age of 97. 97 years. The Cubs never won a World Series during her lifetime. If we toss a ball back, it's an expression of loyalty.
Well, yes ....but when this kind of thing happens and there are cups of beer all over the place ...let's agree to call it like it is ..."DRUNKS". The baseball league COULD fix this by doing many different things ....but it is probably the "controversy" element that they think adds to the competition. .
Funny how the kid is the only one that seems to realize the error of his ways while the adults act like jackasses thinking they did something great by interfering in the game.
@@alfmcstuffjns2080 Just because you paid to get in doesn't mean you have the right to be a complete ass. It's no different to having a phone conversation in the cinema
@@alfmcstuffjns2080 you sound jealous of the money they make. If pro athletes dont work hard why arent you out there. I bet every athlete could do you job. You cant do theirs.
It's astounding the number of supposed baseball fans who can't wrap their heads around the concept that just because your seat is in foul territory doesn't mean any ball your can lean out and grab from the field isn't a foul ball.
I agree to an extent, but most people pay for those seats to get a souvenir foul ball. Yes, it's aggravating that sometimes a fair ball is touched or outright grabbed, but in the heat of the moment, they're looking at the ball that's coming toward them. They don't glance at the ump to see if it's fair, or check to see if a player can make a play on a ball that's just into the seats. Anyone that's ever been to a live game knows you don't take your eyes off the ball or you could get pegged with a line drive.
As evidenced by the video we can clearly see there’s a point where right and wrong go out the window. The kid makes an honest mistake and gets upset. The other dudes are the kind that would flip you off because you had to pass them on the right because they think the left lane is their personal cruise lane.
Ironic how Bartman was getting death threats for a ball that was in foul territory, but the kid that interferes with a ball in the field of play in the Yankees/Orioles game was made a hero.
That’s because it benefitted the Yankees and the Bartman catch “hurt” the Cubs. Honestly they shouldn’t have had so many errors and game stomped in game 7. Bartman is far from the reason for their loss. Moises Alou is the biggest bitch and essentially his reaction led to me having his life ruined
@@oldfrend Riiiight, so he cost them the pennant? Not the 3-1 game lead, not the lack of hitting, not Gonzalez’s error,…etc. The Cubs have only themselves to blame and if you think he deserved the death threats he got then you’re as ignorant as the morons that made them. Sad.
I love the woman at 2:00 just completely stunned by the guy trying to catch a fair ball. Unbelievable that someone would actually try this shit. Especially 5:45, wrestling with the player trying to pry it from his mitt, I mean seriously.
Wrestling for it was uncalled for however, the ball was into the stands at this point, It was a fair ball for the fan but, you don't wrestle for it if the player has it
Situations like this really shows the immaturity of some people especially when they start fighting over a damn baseball 🤦🏼♂️ but as someone said already the kid is the only one who realized he was wrong for interfering. They have to make a rule that changes that so fans really stop interfering when the ball is in play
You guys won't believe this, but in 1996 I was at a game in Dodger Stadium and I saw Brett Butler slice a ball down the line that went foul. A fan hopped the low wall separating fans from the field, and a fan hopped the wall, scooped the ball and then sat down, and no one batted an eye. Right after the strike of 1994, they were looking for any excuses to get fans back.
I think videos like these blow things out of proportion, and then you get idiots in the comments. 9 minute video for? Thousands of games played per year? If it was such a big issue things would change fences put up/ rule changes. I think its fine, people mess up they see a ball they aren't pro athletes they aren't paying attention to the umps call down the line. Half the reason you pay for those seats is so you can get a ball, 95% of games are uneventful and boring. Can anyone blame someone for grabbing a ball when they've been sitting there for a couple hours and that's the first real action they've seen. Since MLB is trying to get fans back so bad (with all the rule changes) they should incorporate fans interfering. Coin flip... heads they go to 3rd tails they stay on first. Imagine how that'd play out down the line, purists/antagonists paying big money for seats for some possible action. That'd make for some fun games. No wonder the banana league or whatever wwf inspired baseball league is doing so well
I was there at the game of LA vs SF last year, it was raining and we had many delays, Doval was pitching and the game had to be paused bc there were guys holding a bright light behind homeplate and the Umpire chewed them out for it.
Fan interference is bad except apparently when it's Jeffrey Maier pulling a sure out into the stands for a home run for the Yankees. Then the MLB is fine with it!
Thoughtless-Vin Scully nailed it. Some of these fans are also clueless and not aware at all. Nothing makes me laugh more than seeing a hometown fan ejected from the park for being foolish
@@Rockhound6165 Not sure how you drew that conclusion from my post......in sports terms, your assumption would be "a swing and a miss", "airball" and "a shanked punt".
They havent done anything about it because its Part of the Event. Mlb have to struggle with empty seats so it Would be stupid to take away a very entertaining Part of the game including Fan Interruptions or catchin Foul balls
He could literally be charged with a crime. Once she had clean possession of the ball, legally speaking, it became her property. So him taking it and throwing it away is the same as if he took her phone and threw it. Petty theft.
Back in 1987, I went to a Motley Crue concert in Lakeland, Florida. Tommy Lee threw a drum stick to the crowd and I cought it. All of a sudden, it was slid out of my hand from below. It was a kid shorter than me. The other fans got pissed at him for it. The kid was terrified and started crying. He tried to give it back to me, but I told him to keep it and I just defended the kid to the people. It wasn't worth the kid having a bad experience over a drum stick.
Around 1994 or so, my friend and I went to the Angel's game. During batting practice (3rd base area), I was reaching for a ball that came toward me. I was pushed over onto the field and the security wanted to throw me out but I kept my cool and told them that I was pushed over. The security was cool and asked to be careful. Till this day I wouldn't mess with them.
the worst i witnessed was at a minor league game where fans sat ground level down the 3rd base line where a grounder down the line happened, and a kid ran on the field and picked up the fair ball and the parents high fived him for getting the ball.
@Have A Fresca oh gosh don’t be such a pussy. Ball was nowhere near the baby dad had a nice grip on the baby while they were eating. If it was coming towards baby’s head I can see your argument but ball was no where near child. Relax. Go have a Fresca
@@ikunjang4513 Serious question: Did the stadium insurance pay for your medical bills? Or is there a clause saying that by buying a ticket & being in the stadium you entered “at your own risk” ❓ *The topic is fascinating due to how many injuries likely occur.*

@@iamskippy yes eventually, when I was in the stadium I didn’t know what happened to my wrist so I went to see doctor day after the game. I’m not American btw I was a tourist, but I had my tourist insurance ready and when I informed blackhawks association and asked for a insurance claim which they did it for me. I honestly don’t remember if they said those things which I was kinda impressed they just checked my tickets and diagnosis.
I remember seeing a clip on a Reds fan who picked up a ball before Votto could get to it. Votto never took the ball back, but simply grabbed the fan's Reds logo on his shirt and then pushed it back at him in disgust. Was fucking hilarious.
The Moises Alou Cubs incident. Bartman, has tons of documentation done on him because of this. He said he didn't even think or realize what was happening. The play kept the inning alive, and in turn essentially knocked the Cubs out of the postseason. And the curse lived on. They ended up winning a little bit later on. Which was good for them. But the guy in the stands, had horrible things done to him. He got fired at work, had death threats and more. He had to move away it got so bad for him and his family as well.
@@SlimThrull birdman wasn't a reube. He was a scapegoat in that whole damn thing. You watch the video and you can see multiple fans reaching for it. He just gets the heat because he's the one that made contact.
I'm very proud of the fact that I have taught my two sons to be respectable at games. I don't care how much you hate the opposing team, I do not allow any booing! There are so many drunk idiots at games that it almost makes it not worth going
90% of sports fans are respectful. Maybe 95%. But the 5%, 1% or whatever percentage of them that are this disgusting makes the experience annoying, you're better off watching games from home.
1:21 Does anyone know what model number that 2way radio is ? It looks like a Motorola but it also looks like a cross between a DMR version of a Chinese ham radio. I don't recognize it but it has the full LCD screen and I bet it is a DMR or phase 2 digital simulcast system radio. I would like to get a look at it.
damn shame these fans can interfere with the game and lead normal lives, yet Steve Bartman (who did way less) can barely leave his house still to this day...
What happened to the old days when players and umps had thicker skin. I yelled "Roid Rager" at Jason Giambi all day one time. He just laughed every time. 🤣
If it's the opponent in the field and the fly ball is past the wall by all means you can catch it but if it's your own team in the field then back up and allow them to reach into the stands to make the catch. Of course if you reach into the field of play that's a whole different story. I wouldn't advise that even though there could be a rare circumstance where a fan interfering with the ball could wind up helping their team. I remember a game between the Rangers and White Sox where a game ended on such a play when the umpire brought the winning run around from first base and awarded him home plate ending the game in their favor. The kicker is it was at their home stadium so if it was a hometown fan he was indeed rewarded for interfering with a fair ball in play.
Looked like you accidentally posted the same clip twice of the sox fan in the yeungling shirt (unless he just so happened to get ejected from two different games in Dodgers stadium lol)
@@MNTwinsGeekI was also confused about that. Thanks for clearing that up. The editor of the video probably fancies himself the next Quentin Tarantino with his artistic non linear storytelling.
I love to be at my favorite favorite baseball teams stadium when we can get there. My hubby and I have a fun time but never would we ever interfere with a baseball player or try to catch their ball no matter how close it comes towards us but know the baseball player will catch it. And we’ve had seats close to the baseball field a few times. Some fans are so arrogant to think they’re the coolest and greatest when they snatch the baseball before it’s caught by the players in the outfield. Like the dad with a tiny baby barely holding his baby just to take away that baseball when the baseball player was going to catch it. That look on on his face, “Look at me! I caught the ball and hung on to my infant baby at the same time, aren’t I awesome?!” And that kid who also stole the ball, 🤦🏻♀️.. some fans get way too excited and full of themselves thinking they’re going to do whatever it takes to catch that ball. And it’s mostly male adults, acting like five year olds. Just sit down and behave and respect the game and the players. Lol
Some of these do not look like intentional interference, but reactions to the ball coming to you. I guess it is easier to have a blanket rule than have a case-by-case determination.
Don't blame the Fans. If MLB wanted to, all ballparks could be ergonomically constructed so that fans seated along the perimeter of the field couldn't interfere with game play.
I will absolutely admit some of them who reaching out is not allowed and should be ejected, but how about the ones who wasn't, what are they supposed to do, let the ball hit them in the head, noo!! They should be allowed to catch the ball so they can protect there faces and others,
I mean it was cool i guess but why the fuck do you have your baby at a game. Call your mom,dad,grandma.. fuck, i'd let my neighbor do it just so i don't have to. lmfao prob why i don't have kids.
Better stadium design would put a buffer zone between the field and the stands. Look how many times Fenway Park was shown practically having the stands jut into the playing field.
Really? He's a reckless asshole that not only interfered with the game, but could have had the ball hit his baby.... what an incredibly monumentally stupid thing to do. I can't even comprehend how anyone would begin to applaud that man.
This video goes to contrast the Alex Gordon play in Chicago a few years ago. That video could be called Reckless LF. I have no issue with the guy at @5:44. The ball was over the wall so he has a right to self-defense which could entail catching the ball. Including him in the Reckless Fan description is a stretch. The poor guy at 7:18 likely has problems brushing his teeth in the morning.
Just get some of that plexiglass they use for hockey rinks and put it on top of the fence around the field. If fans can't handle having open fences then they lose it. Action meet consequence
Indeed. Even after that moment, the Cubs made a costly error and played themselves out of the pennant. At least Bartman got a World Series ring for the 2016 win.
This happend to the Orioles about 25 years ago. Kid leaned out and caught the ball . IT was obvious our guy had it , but the kids glove was slightly above his. They were out of the playoffs , it was on the frront page of the Baltimore Sun and it got ugly.
Ive been to a $2 beer can night in Toronto. It may have been even cheaper. And it was like mid to late 90s. There was nothing for them to celebrate but who could hit Pat Hentgen with a beer.
Bartman did a dumb thing, but the Cubs were well on their way to losing that game all on their own. I think too many fans wanted someone to blame and he became an easy scapegoat. I remember how poorly they were playing both before and after that play.
