I (my family) sued the Washoe County School District and Police Department when I was in Junior High after the School Police beat me up and threw my head into a wall for refusing to open my locker without a parent being present. Thank You BAT!

I am sorry that happened to you & glad you sued. I am a retired teacher & when I continually complained regarding how some of our students were treated, I was illegally fired. My case lasted 5 years but I won. I never saw any physical interactions but many students were disrespected & falsely accused. Students should record any confrontation with their teachers, principals & district employees. I know that teachers & administration tries to take cell phones from students but it’s their right to record.

When I was in Elementary school in Canada…We were still being sent to the principals office to get a letter strap across our hands if we misbehaved or didn’t do our homework. I think the problem is the school system was set up to fail children…so children and adults will always be stressed in it’s environment.

@@mmblue3986 I was a high-school teacher & while employed, another teacher who was more of a special-ed consultant & wasn’t actively teaching, proposed a program she called the success academy. I didn’t want to participate due to its name because parents believed their children would be successful & rightly so, but many of the students failed in this program. You commented on the school system & you’re absolutely right. Can you imagine failing a SUCCESS academy? My last year there, students who failed algebra 1 in the first semester were required to retake the class the second semester but also had to take algebra 2. These students were retaking a class they failed & at the same time with 2 different teachers, taking the second-level in which the first one was a prerequisite. They had no chance of passing either. When I complained, I was told by the principal that those students wouldn’t be attending college anyway & the district just wanted to get them through the system to graduate. How does that make any sense & yes many students are made to feel as failures & are stressed all day, every day. And we wonder why they hate school.

Mind you, I have my "face buried in my phone," so to speak, as I watch this video, I'm also at home on my day off...you best believe that even though my main full-time job doesn't entail dealing with the public, if I were to walk around *ON THE CLOCK,* messing around on my cellphone, outside of texting/calling a co-worker or supervisor on a work-related topic, I'm pretty sure that I would be reprimanded for it...If I were dealing with members of the public, while burying my face in the phone, ignoring the people I'm paid to help, I would likely be fired, and rightfully so!

They literally demonstrated why recording is necessary. Let’s play this hypothetical scenario… BAT is walking throughout the public areas taking notes, without a camera, and employees refuse him service…are rude…give unlawful directives….lie to cops…etc etc. Without a recording, it’s their word against BAT’s. He has no evidence of all their lies and unprofessional behaviour. No evidence means no accountability. No accountability means no correcting the behaviour. So for anyone who says “he’s just trying to get a reaction”. Ya, he’s trying to capture both good reactions(ones that might result in deserved promotions and or raises) and unprofessional reactions(ones that will then be held accountable). For the record, I was enjoying this video showing how Washoe county converted an old school building into office space. I was shocked how these employees denied the independent journalist's right to complete this informative video. The disrespect displayed by all these public servants is outrageous and an apology to all the interested viewers should be made by the superintendent. Also, what on earth is going on in this work environment that these people are all so unpleasant. And, if you ever wonder who that is, two feet from your rear bumper on the freeway, you are looking at them!
