Same! I have always loved Ferrari, and something about the 512 BB design spoke to me. But this car sitting for *39 years* is a total waste. It will probably never be a good running car, unless they do a complete restoration - and even then it's a big gamble.

A bit more detail about this car that had "sat for thirty years" (yet had no visible deterioration), would have been nice. It had obviously been cleaned nside and out, to within an inch of its life before you set eyes on it. A first start up and what you had to do to achieve that goal are the meat and bones of a blog with the title you gave it. If it had sat for 30 years as the owner claimed it would show plenty of evidence, but one must ask why is the guy selling it now?

@58raceguy
@58raceguy 28 дней назад
@schamitz your comment sent me digging. I always thought these to be a true boxer design but you are correct, they are not. Even the Ferrari engineer who designed the engine confirmed it. Technically is a flat 12 with the heads at a 180 degree angle. The Ferrari website even refers to it as a 180 degree V12 which is confusing. This is from a technical article I found: “While the "Berlinetta Boxer" name has been used by both Ferrari and the press to describe BB-series cars, this engine was not a true boxer engine. In the Tipo F102 A and its derivatives, each pair of opposing pistons share the same crank pin and move in the same direction during operation. In a boxer engine, pairs of opposing pistons move in opposite directions. On this point, Ferrari engine designer Mauro Forghieri stated "Please, don't call it boxer. Technically, it is correct to say that this engine is a flat-12, or has 12 cylinders with the heads at a vee angle of 180°”
@schamitz
@schamitz 26 дней назад
@@timkinley1779 Yes, it does apply, my 911 has a boxer, the 512 BB has a V12. As @58raceguy wrote in a boxer engine pairs of opposing pistons move in opposite directions, in a V12 they don´t. That is not my definition, but the one and only.

how outstanding but I've got to know did something happen to make it sit parked and cared for like you were going to drive it tomorrow. I stopped watching so it might say but the owner is to me very aware and as you can tell he certainly knows his stuff. I'm begging my brother to sell his car that I curate and got it 1st place in its class the handful of times we entered it. now this is still driven but less and less. I was told that letting the car sit was the worst thing for it. its a newer but still a ey high performance car. its not a '81 boxer but its a '97 18k 993 turbo in guards red. its specced he's the second owner and its always been garage kept I'm the only person who has touched the cosmetic side of it. he also had the foresight to buy a bunch of O.E. parts that are no longer available. its a clean condition 2 way toward the high end. its optioned well and he is hesitent to sell now. I follow the market of it but I'm a car guy that knows about way more than he being a Porsche guy. I've seen them with more miles worse condition without all the extras. it does have a couple mods but has the O.E. parts in addition to all the other things he bought over the 15-20 or so years he's had it. I've seen where cars have sold like his but not as nice where he'd make 300k. is that a car that driving less is actually lowering its value. turbochargered ars need to be heat cycled and and have all fluids circulated as well as everything else from suspension to tires to the cooling system all need to be pressurized I believe more than he drives it. what is long between drives for something like that,. I fully understand this 512 is a different story(and the black just kills its) I've been a 512 and 400i guy since the early 80's and still think they are real ferraris. ones Enzo graced maybe even touched. what an outstanding buy. I grew up watching you on speedvision with my Dad (R.I.P.) and I think your content is better than ever!! let me know if you get a moment about the 993 question. always great to see any or all the Klutt family doing what they do best , dealing with Legendary CARS!! cheers

The owner should have sold it at auction - like Bonham's are similar instead of selling it to this guy.

This car's engine is NOT a "boxer" engine, it is a 180 degree V12! You can call it a flat-12, but the crankshaft has six throws instead of one per cylinder that true boxer engines have. Why the hell Ferrari named it this is beyond me. These are seriously cool, but the name is completely wrong! Folks, I think the car is worth twice what the house is worth~

BB in Italian stands for 'Berlinetta Bialbera' meaning two door coupe double overhead cams not boxer! However Ferrari let it go for ease of translation for anglophones to boxer!

This, right here, is the most boring argument in all of automobiledom. Having owned a 911 and currently owning a Testarossa, I couldn’t care less about the difference between a flat V engine and a boxer. I don’t know why anyone does.

Old Fossil buys brand-new Ferrari - NEVER drives it..... What a pathetic waste of money. OF COURSE - he thinks its a cherished heirloom and demands 'top dollar' for it. The car needs $100,000 worth of service before anyone will consider driving it - suspension, brakes, engine ($60K alone).

One of my most depressing car moments was the first time I saw the BB512i's replacement: The unbelievably ugly Testarossa. Never in my life have I ever been more disappointed. I always felt that Ferrari replaced a gorgeous car with the ugliest possible design. I still hate them. Totally butt-ugly car.
