If you do drop a rod overboard and it's possible if you're out there enough, carry an old chain stringer with a strong cord tied to the bank end, Open all the hooks where the fish would go. Toss it in a few times where you dropped the rod and you will find it. Strong current and deep water, it's gone.

yeah, that was what I noticed was NOT accidentally dropping but throwing the chum box out of the trap and leaving trash in the water. As Chuck on the TV show "Last Man Standing" used to say :"NOT COOL!".
