Great video!!!!! I think you can work crowns many ways as I have always stick my crowns straight into the soil after cutting and I have never pull off all the fruit. Thankfully, I have never had one not root, grow and fruit. I have a large pineapple garden along with mango trees, sour sop trees, star fruit, Haas Avocados, Oranges, Myers lemons, lychee tree, jackfruit and many others in Fort Lauderdale. It is nice to see you doing other things besides fishing. All of my crown came from Robert is here fruit stand in Key Largo

I wish I had all year climate like yours. I'm up here in British Columbia, Canada (Zone 8) and I've got my crown at about 1 year now. Slow growing for sure but I'm in no rush! I did start mine from a top, but I cannot wait to get my own slips and suckers to start better plants :) Thanks for the video! It really helps!

egg shells don't do much of anything added directly to soil. the calcium won't be bio available for years. If you want to add calcium to the soil. can heat egg shells, or even oyster shells/crab chitin in a firepit (get like a large steel can tomato sauce comes in or big can of peaches) the heat changes the chemical make up of the calcium can then dissolve it in vinegar. and the resulting paste/slurry can dilute with water and have direct available calcium for plants.
@shdwbnndbyyt
@shdwbnndbyyt 3 дня назад
Bake the shells (egg or oyster) above 350F -- the fire pit will work fine -- to degrade the protein binding the calcium carbonate in the shell. Then run them through a blender until it is powder to increase the surface area.... The powder will then dissolve many times faster even in water.. Too much heat can change the shells to quicklime though... adding the vinegar causes it to react converting it ro a calcium acetate salt.

when I lived up north, I planted the first pineapples in early May just like you do in the video, the one difference is that I also include earthworms to aerate the soil after the 3rd step in replanting them. The worms served 2 purposes 1 it kept the soils firm and also fertilized but I also had fish food whenever I went fishing

Commercial growers and most gardeners never grow pineapples from seed. While it can be done, it takes way too long. This is why we use the crowns to grow new plants and the commercial growers use the suckers to generate new crops. Much faster growing methods than from seed.

Thank you! The rest of my trees Mango, Papaya, Soursop, Avocado are doing great. Now I know why my pineapples are not doing much. I used crowns with no real soil prep, other than dig a hole, put in some potting soil and pack them in. In Central America everything wants to grow so badly that's all we have to do. I will go to a farmer and get some slips and try the pots.

But now, I can’t find a store in my small town that does not hollow out the top of the pineapple so it doesn’t grow…. 😢 I live in rural Pennsylvania. My father would have really appreciated you. Every spring he would go out and cross-pollinate his irises, harvest the seeds and plant them the next spring. It took about three years from there to find out what he had created. 18 months for a pineapple would have easily been worth it for him.

@DarcizzleOffshore
@DarcizzleOffshore 10 дней назад
That $3 dollar store bought pineapple is picked wayyy before it’s ready to be harvested for better transportation and longer shelf life. The taste of a homegrown fruit doesn’t even compare to the store bought varieties. But then you have the patented Del Monte pinkglow pineapples cost 30-40 bucks for just one pineapple. Gardening (like most hobbies) requires you to spend money and time. I enjoy the entire process from start to finish and the rewards of enjoying something I grew. I love the exotic look of the pineapple plant too. Gardening is not for everybody.

Luv it. I grow a lot and have found a system almost exactly like yours. Only difference is; I fill the cloth pot with another pot (same size) inside then then when full, remove the forming pot and now have a perfect hole to dump the rooted plant in with no back filling needed. I've never done a pineapple, but I live in Michigan. are you going to do a separate YT gardening channel? Thanks.

I started growing pineapples a couple years ago, now they are picking up production. I’m in Southwest Florida. Not sure what part of Florida you’re in, but you had lots of good pointers and advice. I certainly picked up some new hints I want to try , curious on pineapple plants that are turning a little yellow, I know they’re getting plenty of water. And one other question would be do you have any spray program you do for any diseases?

Egg shells take incredibly long to decompose . I go one step further and use an electric coffee grinder to almost turn the shells into a powder . A full size blender would likely be able to powdeize the shells , but I have a cheap coffee grinder that i dedicated to the garden ... no need to was it .

I want to try this in tennessee. I have a greenhouse and do also use grow bags. I found that the bags, if outside, will allow freezing air to get into the soil and freeze the roots. after all letting in air is what it does. Lost a blackberry, raspberry and grape to that. so will insulate this coming winter, BUT for pineapple I will just grow in greenhouse. I did grow pineapple in florida when I lived there (3 years ago) and actually watered with aquaponic water (yes I had it all) and it did great. would you recommend bringing the pineapple out of the greenhouse come spring?
