I love your vid on the GP. I had a 69 GP and loved it. Bought it in 1981 for $600 with a bad timing chain. After a new chain and a few pushrods it ran like a fine Swiss Watch. I love the Qjet carbs as they are so simple and reliable as hell. The secondary metering rods are easy to get at along with everything else on the Qjet. Seeing you work on that made me remember what I used to do back in the day. I just loved my Buicks, Pontiacs and Cadillacs in those days. I am now 72 and don't feel like working on cars much so I now drive Hondas and Toyotas. That bring said, there is nothing like a strong American car with a powerful V8 and a great transmission like the GM400. Those were the days and I miss it

@@PoorBoysGarageUSMC Hey my friend, i think i was too late to pick your contact of you out of the comment, can you contact me, please? (or even answer with a contact adress or..? :) My problem was, that i was with my phone at YT and at next time i didn´t found your contact posted to the comments anymore. That´s very sad, because i´m sure that you like to sell something what you´ll find, especially about these cars "That nobody really cares about", for example an ordinary 4 Door Ful Size car or such examples... But i do love these kind of cars, too! :) It was great to hear from you, and i hope you can save a lot of abandoned stuff out there, you do a amazing work in my eyes, wish i could help you about that..& hey, possible that i can help with buy a car or so. I really wish i had that luck to live at your place and country. Because where i´m located at Bavaria, germany, there is the problem about a real recycle mafia that was going on decades ago what cleaned up vintage stuff, especially cars and places where you could find such stuff, & then there is allways the problem that people, especially farmers solt their land many years ago, where so much more vintage stuff was going to crush & all that what guys like we don´t would do or like to do with such amazing stuff. :( And so i feel living in a completely false country for me. Especially when you love the larger sized US cars anywhere. ;) But it is like i sayed, if i could also save cars like you could to, i feel like in haven! :) With my restoration work at the 67 Chevy Impala/Caprice what i´m doing with my 70 years old dad i hope to contionue this summer. Still in work with rebuilding the sheet metal by us. But had to stop for a while because the location change of my parents was also neccessary. And there i´ve also questions, or askings for you about parts, or so for such cars, too. It was great & even better to stay in contact via Mail!? :) Cheers & have a great nice day, Till

The factory hi-perf 400 Pontiac came with crome valve covers and crome air filter top. You should also do the timing chain and gears, they came with a nylon timing gear that always went bad. The nylon will shave off and plug the oil pump screen then you have to pull the motor to change the pump & screen. Most common problem on 60s & 70s Pontiac V8s

I love those 60s and 70s Grand Prixs. I had a 63 Grand Prix that I drove everywhere. You said that you didn't of it as a hot rod, I didn't either until I started hitting the street races. There wasn't a street racer out there that I didn't beat. The biggest problem I had was breaking traction off the line. It was a beautiful ride and I loved it. It drove and handled like a dream on the road. If you don't want it I'll buy it from you.

You could also put in a quicker ratio steering box. I did these mods myself to my pontiacs back in the day. You could make real street sweepers with only minor mods...anyway brings back the memories! My wife at the time proceeded to total that car a mere six months later. So I trade a great cruiser for a hot rod. Bad choice. Ah the mistakes of youth. Personally, I still believe that she wouldn't have wrecked the Gran Prix because should would not have been driving it right to the edge like she drove the Trans Am. Beautiful ride you have there. Sweet car, brother, Pontiacs are my favorite. I turned 18 in '71, so I remember those days well. By '72 they'd cut the compression way back, actually reworked the combustion chambers to get it low enough. Emission controls ruined those old engines. It got worse after '72, less power and the insane 5 mph bumpers! Glad you saved one of the last of the "good old days" cruisers.

After rewatching this again where I left off I was wondering, have you ever tried superzilla penetrant? It's supposed to wick upwards into the grooves regardless of orientation! It says screw gravity!😊 Ask around if anyone has tried it, I haven't yet cuz I don't have a machine to work on but the commercial looks good. Glad you got her going! Success is great!!!👍😊

Awesome car, my roommate at Holloman Afb, new Mexico, had a 1974 Grandprix, we took a trip to Tampa Florida in it, ran like a champ, it had a oldsmobile 350, we averaged 24mpg going a average 90mph there and back. It floated down the street. Very smooth car. Older cars have so much character then the new crap. I would differently fix it up.

In the early 70s,my grandmother had a 72 with the rally sport package, whatever they called that, sj mabe, my uncle bought it new and gave it to my grandmother, couple years later, it was a kinda brown gold color, not a scratch on it, had the 400, she was probably about 60, we would be driving along on some back country rd here in SC, and she would say, I think this car needs blowing out, what you think, I would say yes, ofcourse, and she would stomp the gas, and let that engine whine lol,she would then say, look at that black smoke, she needed that! Early 80s, had a electrical fire at a gas station, burned up the interior, she was never happy with any of her cars after that.

One thing most people don't know about in that GP is that it has a special shifter for drag racing. ( put it in first gear , then pull the shifter to the left and shift into second , DO NOT LET GO OF THE SHIFTER UNTIL YOU ARE READY FOR IT TO GO INTO SECOND GEAR , around 4500-5500 RPM let go of the shifter and BAM!
