I remember being in the 11th or 12th grade when she was found. I was sitting in AP Literature class waiting for our teacher to come in and start the class. The lights were dimmed. She walked in and had clearly been crying. She apologized for being so late and told us that her niece who had been kidnapped was found. She explained to us when and how she was kidnapped, and I don’t think we even had class that day because she was just so emotional.

How is it THEIR fault?? If she said nothing and acted fine to be there, are they supposed to use telepathy? Maybe they thought they were their kids? You can't assume every kid in a house you go into is a kidnap victim, when there a phone and the door is right there. Like Elizabeth Smart, she could have got away any time. It's no ones fault. The only fault is when the cops didn't investigate reports of strange activity at the property when it was called in, that's where there was fault

I was thinking the same thing, but she probably lost all hope by that point. She was raped in the shower the first day she was abducted and didn’t even know what sex was. I would’ve thought the worst was yet to come too. I think in hind-sight the cat signified some sort of hope for her, which could’ve been the reason why she’s alive today. She was “content”, for lack of a better word, with the fast food and cats, which helped her cope and remain calm. It’s so crazy they trusted her so much to let her roam around the house with PO coming. I’m so happy she’s alive and well.

She should've told the boy neighbour to tell the police she was kidnapped and her name. It's so awful how these sickos brainwash these kids. It's shows they know exactly what they are doing. I've read time and time again captive people had chances to escape for years before but were too terrified. It breaks my heart how disempowered they are when they have all the power, just one word, one policeman turning up, and they are jailed forever. If ever this happens to anyone, god forbid, you tell anyone and everyone what is happening, even if you just hand out a note to them silently. Also, police have said that 9 out of 10 times a captor will let a child go if they scream and holler at the time. I know that doesn't apply to this poor girl as she was tasered. So extreme, so glad she survived. Wishing her and her daughters all the best ♥

My mom saw my brother's mom talking to him, but she had never met her so she didn't know it was his mom, so she came up and asked my brother if he was okay. wonderfullyme Yeah there were components to it/ crimes that only he committed, I just think her sentence should be guaranteed life with no possibility of parole because of how involved she was. I wonder what she would have done (would she have let Jaycee and the daughters go) if he had died suddenly?

katiedireland she could have let them go when he went back to prison and sought help “disappearing” before he came back or ensure the cops could lock him away for life. She was as guilty as him, the pretending she was filming him whilst filming children so he could “browse” and “window shop” for later she knew VERY WELL he was looking for a child to take. I can tell you now that I LOVE my husband, he’s my life! But if I had even an inkling he was into this or said he was... I’d maybe still love him, you can’t just turn off your heart! but I would NOT ignore it, I would not help him with his desires, I would instead be calling the cops. She is quite obviously as sick as he is, I do not doubt that she watched him abuse Jaycee, she should definitely just got straight forward life. I only hope that the gals in prison know what she did to be there, let her experience some good ole prison karma! I also hope he has been shared around the prison...

I’m really glad to see you do stories with positive things. I love true crime but it can get very depressing when they are all tragic

Room, is based on a book by Emma Donoghue. She was actually inspired by a kid napping that happened in Austria.

I have this story saved and often watch it when I'm feeling down or feeling like I can't go on or feeling like life is to hard....I watch it and my spirit is filled because if Jaycee can do it, so can I.

I was actually in the Jaycee Dugard reenactment and played her oldest daughter! It was on the Investigation Discovery channel, called Wicked Attraction. It's so cool to have so many people interested in the case because I feel somewhat connected, being able to help share her story
