Following my three days at the North Norfolk Railway for its 'SPRING STEAM GALA' I then took a what became an extended four-day holiday down at the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway from Monday 8th to Thursday 11th April 2019. Originally it was meant to be three days but after deciding I was enjoying it too much I decided to stay and return with my fellow Eastleigh Lakeside Railway comrades who were holidaying at Romney Sands.
Over the four days the RHDR ran its three train Green Service timetable. Normally this is a three steam and one diesel line-up but due to RHDR DH Bo-Bo No.12 "J. B. Snell" having been worked very hard in the absence of No.14 "Captain Howey", it was changed to a four steam line-up with "J. B. Snell" taking over for the final round trip from New Romney to Dungeness and Hythe.
Of the railway's current operational steam fleet, six of them saw use over the four days. These locomotives were...
- RHDR 'Greenly' 4-6-2 No.2 "Northern Chief" (Monday-Thursday)
- RHDR 'Greenly' 4-6-2 No.3 "Southern Maid" (Tuesday & Wednesday)
- RHDR 'Mountain'-class 4-8-2 No.5 "Hercules" (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday)
- RHDR 'Mountain'-class 4-8-2 No.6 "Samson" (Tuesday-Thursday)
- RHDR 'Greenly' 4-6-2 No.8 "Hurricane" (Monday & Thursday)
- RHDR 'Canadian Pacific'-class 4-6-2 No.9 "Winston Churchill" (Monday & Tuesday)
