I've allowed myself to purchase one $200+ bottle a year and the Four Gate Kelvin Collaboration series is the winner 6 years in a row. Haven't regretted it yet. 🥃
So to recap: Kelvin 1: Sherry Rum 11 yr Kelvin 2: Cognac/Rum 12 yr Kelvin 3: PXSherry/Rum 9yr/12yr Kelvin 4: TawnyPort/Rum 9/8/7/6yr Kelvin 5: Sherry/Rum 9/8/7/6yr Kelvin 6: Madeira/Rum 9yr I loved 5. Interested in how 6 compares. 3 & 2 are still best they've done
The Kelvin Collab 6 is fantastic! I've been hooked on them since trying the 3 and the 6 imo is right up there with it as one of the best in the series.
Great review Jason. I just bought a bottle of Four Gate Kelvin VI a few weeks ago. It's my first FG and first time spending that much on a bottle. But I wanted to have a really special bottle for my birthday next month and other special occasions. Hope I like it.
I have never had a Four Gate, tho I have a Foundation 10 year bourbon purchased 2 months ago that I hope to get to by Memorial Day. I had a pour of Willet 8 year wheat bourbon last September, but the bestest bourbon s I own are Stagg (Jr)
Nice review! I really enjoy Madeira finished pours! Never had a 4Gate but I might buy this one. I really enjoy my Art of the Spirit Madeira finished rye, Belle Meade Madeira, and the RY3 Madeira finished! Cheers!
The Kelvin Collabs that we've tried have all been absolutely delicious. Thankfully, the $200ish pricepoint means they likely won't be flying off the shelf before we can grab one. The salty, nuttiness of madeira and the sweetness of the rum barrel will probably make this one a staple in our collection while it's available. thanks for the review, Jason!
Glad I bought the Kelvin VI when I got the chance; Stunning whiskey! Z Biotics work well for me. One of my best subscriptions, second only to The Mash and Drum! (I would appreciate an anniversary discount or bonus Z Biotic bottles once a year!?!)
I am interested to know how this would stack up against the new Murray Hill club special release batch four which is at a similar price point. That batch four is fantastic.
I'm happy to compare sourced to the big boy brands. The question becomes did they add value? Exceptional blending? Crazy finishing? Here KILLER finishing. I'm a good bit higher on this one than you it seems.
@@TheMashandDrum yeah, it's opened up even more since Mike and I reviewed it. I think the proof is a bit low for some of you Hazmat lovers. But it actually really hit perfect for me to savor that orange/sherry note that maderia did here.
I’ve only had the Collab V, which was decent, but I love their Andalusia Key bourbon. Unfortunately, their distribution doesn’t include my state, so I have to pay extra to order it online.
I wish Four Gate and Old Carter were sold in New England. Only saw them in one store once last year and prices were secondary so that’s a hard pass. I is hard to justify normally $140 for a bourbon never mind $200 but a few are definitely worth it. Normally over $110 is Single Malt Scotch and Irish age statement territory
I see any and all Four Gate products gathering dust on shelves around me. They are a poster child of the bourbon bubble. It’s a very niche product for those who have excess funds, in my opinion. They very well might be good, but I can’t pay $200 yearly to find out.
I’ve tried a couple and I have enjoyed them all but I’m not a fan of the price I think these should be like 100 to 120. Likely won’t be looking for this one
@@TheMashandDrum Yeah, absolutely fantastic. I just picked up a Dovetail store pick, which I didn’t know existed until day, and that’s amazing too. I’ve never tried a Four Gate product though because of the price point
