I think you have created a team that is more likely to turn the avatar evil than create a good minded avatar

“Tenzin is too strict and focuses on old outdated styles” - proceeds to pick Guru Lahima from like 2000 years ago… Also we don’t know anything about him… sure he mastered flight but what if he was a pacifist and couldn’t teach fighting properly, like many of the old monks. “Katara is too bossy” - picks a straight up phycopath who hates the avatar instead. Also blood bending is illegal in republic city, so the avatar would get in a lot of issues trying to do it. Gazan is from an order that is dedicated to anarchy and ending the avatar cycle so idk why you would pick him… Personally I would of went with Toph, as she has other techniques like seismic sense, and she learned directly from the badger moles, the original earth benders. Lastly with firebending - I think Iroh (not eerhoe) would of been the best as he can do both lightning redirection and generation, is an experienced teacher, knows about spirits and stuff and is kind overall. Also he does firebending from the breath, like the dragons, so he would teach the avatar a more skilled way to bend. Also combustion bending is very risky, as you can get overwhelmed, as we see with P’li and Combustion man. Also it causes great damage to the surrounding area, whereas lightning is quick and clean.

I feel like you only focused on the special bending types that were most powerful, sure combustion bending is strong but iroh is clearly a wiser and better teacher, theres more to the teacher than just their power level

My team would be iroh , toph , jinora and katara. It's not whether lightening redirection is more powerful than combustion bending it more of who teaches the best and what mastery he has over that. All combustion benders were hot headed angry people ,you don't think they could teach . Jinora is my favourite,same for toph and katara and iroh

I just don’t get how you’re going to turn down Aang for the way he raised his kids, but assume that Amon wouldn’t be a totally psychopath. I mean I agree with you on not picking Aang over a Guru and that Katara was bossy. It’s just that Amon wouldn’t even want to teach you, he’d try to take your bending away.

Idk about this list, the avatar needs to know the basics of bending too and considering the fact that 3/4 only bended their base element once or even no times in the show, the team avatar should consist of well rounded but strong individuals. I personally would choose Katara, Jinora, Iroh, and Toph

I think there's one thing wrong with most of these lists. An avatar's job is to protect people. Things like combustion bending or lavabending have limited uses outside of combat. Although bloodbeding could be used to subdue enemies, it's use is also often seen as evil. I think that's one thing most of these lists miss out on.

I always wondered what an Avatar that had access to all the specialized bender styles could do. Like imagine they use metal and lava bending to forge a sword and then use lightning generation to make it shoot lightning. That would be sick

the fact that 3 of the masters are literal villains in the avatar universe means that the avatar would be causing more chaos than peace tho

Zaheer (he is actually a good teacher. Skilled in h2h air bending and has an interesting perspective on things. He is also not overly violent. Sometimes you must see other perspectives to really understand them and I think he would be best at that) Katara ( the most balanced water bending having healing and combat abilities. Her personality and demeanor is perfect for a more peaceful approach) Toph (Her bending was unique and she was the best earth bender of her time. Amazing defense that will be sorely needed. Iroh ( He has many accolades as a fire bender war general. Then he turned into a peace loving person but still has so much wisdom an avatar couldn’t pass up that knowledge) My team balances offense and defense as well as some perspective and knowledge.

Air: Monk Gyatso. He has a very nurturing spirit and feels like an idea Air Nomad to learn from. Sure, he doesn't have unaided flight, but to achieve that, one must be detached from the world, and an Avatar can never achieve this, as stated by Yangchen. True, we don't know Gyatso's full abilities, whether he could project his spirit, etc, but we do know he took out a lot of Fire Benders by himself. Water: Katara. While Blood Bending is undoubtedly powerful, it's abilities seem to have a corrupting effect on its wielder. As such, Katara seems to be a better teacher. She can teach Blood Bending and the restraint to not use it, but also teach the water healing technique. That way, you're an Avatar that heals and well as fights. Earth: Lin. While Gyatso teaches free spirited nature, Lin can teach a respect for law and order, while also instilling the knowledge of Metal Bending. While Lava Bending has it's uses, Lin can teach seismic sense. Lava has it's advantages, but a fully realized Avatar should have a broad enough arsenal where they should be able to get around that. Metal and Seismic Sense offer more versatility in areas where natural Earth Bending is impossible. Fire: Iroh. Iroh is arguably the best Fire Bending teacher one can ask for. He's skilled in Fire and Lightning Bending, and his warm and patient teaching method makes him ideal. The man has a lot of wisdom to in part on a developing Avatar and would remind the Avatar of their destiny, not looking at nations or boarders, but rather the duty of balance and the world. My masters were more focused on the lessons rather than the elements and powers.

You should've gone for Iroh. You would have a great master, access to the ability to breathe fire, personal connections to the head of the White Lotus, thus giving more options for other teachers, plus excellent tea.

Jesus imagine an avatar in the avatar state just creating explosions and throwing lava everywhere while simultaneously flying and freezing his opponent dead in his/her tracks with blood bending.

Katara was still the best choice for water she could do everything all the other water benders can do and more. Also when teaching Aang she was never bossy it was more when she was annoyed with the group as a whole

I choose Toph, Iroh, Ming Hua and Gyatso. Gyatso can teach the avatar everything that he was teaching Aang, Ming Hua can teach the avatar that water should be an extension of his body, Iroh can teach the avatar lightningbending and redirection and that firebending comes from the breath not the muscle and Toph can teach the avatar seismic sense, metalbending and that earth is an extension of the body.

I was hooked when you were choosing for an Air Master and chose a powerful one with advantages. However, you were not so fair with the other elements, you should've made some categories i.e. Mastery, or Attitude. You completely ignored the social capabilities of the ones you chose for Water, Earth, and Fire it's ridiculous. You didn't choose Katara because she's "annoying", but you chose literal evil ones which isn't a characteristic that should be relative to an Avatar, they might end up corrupted.

Combustion bending instead of lighting generation and redirection is a mistake. 1. Iroh can generate and redirect lightning. 2. One hit to the forehead or dense cover around your forehead and combustion bending kills you. 3. Lightning redirection is a rare skill so you can use lightning reliably

If I was the Avatar I should want to have Jinora, Kya, Suyin,and Iroh.

An avatar that can fly (and therefore have no earthly attachments), combustion bend (destructive), lava bend (destructive), and blood bend (straight up banned in Republic City) sounds like an evil character lmao

I think that I would have chosen different people for the majority of the list but here it is if you are interested: Air: I think I would have chosen Jinora because she is a extremely powerful air bender who knows both modern air bending techniques and a lot about the history of air bending and she is also extremely mature for her age. (Gyatso tied for this spot but I ended up choosing Jinora) Water: I think I agree with you on this one because Amon is very powerful and I think that his only con might be that he’s evil but that’s beside the point. Earth: Before I say who I chose you didn’t even consider Bumi! But I think that Toph though she can be tough at times, is truly the most powerful earth bender of all time so I chose her. Fire: Uncle Iroh. I don’t need an explanation other then he is the best, he has great wisdom, and I would play pai sho every day with him.

I'd agree with your list at the time but if it was modern day I'd probably go with: Amon, Lin, guru Lahema, and mako, because of how modern day is 'built' metal bending would be a powerful technique, and mako's teaching methods would be calm, and he would know more fire bending techniques I personally think due to how much p'li relies on combustion bending, I wouldn't think she would know fire bending to well, and lightning bending would be amazing

My List: Airbending - Jinora, she's mastered airbending in a young age and has shown her usefulness, especially in terms of spirit projection. Waterbending - Katara, she's proven to be the most resourceful waterbender, knowing how she doesn't need actual water to engage in combat. She's also the best healer there is which would be a great help, and may also engage in bloodbending if needed. Earthbending - Toph She's the melon lord and the blind bandit, what more could you want?? Fire - Iroh In terms of attitude, iroh's your guy. He's proven to be one of the strongest firebenders and can both generate and redirect lightning. He has also led the Fire Lord's fleet as one of the main generals. He can be a big help to the team. Addition(s): Monk Gyatsu can also be the airbender but there's not much that I really know about him. Suyin can also be the earthbender, she's literally the melon lord's daughter. She's proven to be one of the most creative and intelligent metalbenders there is. She has lots of potential in metalbending.

Combustion bending is strong, but at the same time, the focal point is also its weakness, so i would choose iroh. He would not only be able to generate lightning but also redirect it and I'm pretty sure that he would beat combustion man no holds barred.

Idk, I feel like he just picked his masters for power rather than being a master of the art. A lot of these benders (with a powerful sub-bending style) we’re defeated by “weaker” benders. More power doesn’t always mean better imo.

Many flaws in your team: 1. Best team isn't the same as most offensively powerful 2. I highly doubt combustion can be taught, such kind of skill is a rarity, also the 2 only users or such skill haven't ever used regular firebend which strongly suggest, they are borned with an unusual chi system that focus in their forehead rather than their belly like most regular firebenders, or something like that 3. Let's say you put in a soccer team, CR7, Messi, Ibra, Mbappe and the best of each possition you can think of, they won't make the best team, they will fail big time... A team needs team work. 3 out of your 4 choices were extremists. 1 Anarchist and 2 Terrorists, their purpose was to kill the avatar... What a good team Avatar!!! 4. The Avatar is usually young when he/she does the mastering the 4 elements training. The premise is to build a Team avatar, not just to choose 4 Teachers for the Avatar. Roku trained in peaceful times, so he went to his Teachers whereabouts and trained with them. In such scenario, old teachers like Pakku, Yum Yum, Shiatsu or Guru Laghima would be great choices. But you can hardly call that a Team Avatar. Team Avatar, according to the series is a group that has adventures with the Avatar. Do you include Tensin in team Avatar? No, and yet you might include Asami in team Korra despite she isn't a Bender; Zokka was in Team Avatar and he wasn't a bender.. Team Avatar is Avatar's party, his/her co-adventurers. Being that said, a child/teenager Avatar would work better with teacher/friends around his/her age. 5. Mastering the elements doesn't mean the Avatar (outside Avatar state that piles up all the sheer power of previous Avatars) gets as powerful/skillful as their respective Masters. I find unless the Avatar's default element happens to be Earth, and he happens to have the affinity for Lava, he/she would never Lavabend using solely earthbending Being All that Said here is my take 1. Best Teachers for Avatar: Fire Yum Yum/ Iroh Earth: Bumi/Toph Water: Pakkun Wind: Tensin/Jinora Best people for team Avatar? Toph, Jinora, Makko, Katara (-1) I Would say despite his old age, Iroh would be much better than Makko, also he is like frigging Jiraiya. Considering the Avatar would start with a good level of skill in his/her default element, remove the person with the same element and add Ty Lee and you are set. Let's say the Avatar comes from fire Nation... the team would be: Jinora, Katara, Toph and Ty Lee what a nice team!!!!

Personally I believe that may be the strongest team but not the best. I think the best would be Iroh bumi Hama and gyatso. There’s more to being an avatar than just being all powerful.

combustion bending is a birth skill and not learnable, And due too the avatar being, well the avatar he most likely could not let go of his earthly tethers ,Also picking a team of a equalist, 2 red lotus members and a guy who has been dead for multiple hundreds of years, isn't the best group too teach a avatar

this list of masters only takes into consideration how powerful they all are, but doesn't take anything else into consideration. From what I remember combustion man can't even speak, whereas Iroh is wise and understands the world in a way which not many people do.

I think you're forgetting that Aang could energy bend, taking away people's bending and was the only first person to get it from a Lion Turtle.

The avatar can't combination bend though. The combination bender is so rare because he is his own form of avatar. He generates an explosive beam only through his third eye Wich is actually a combustion spirit that binds with it's own host at birth. It has nothing to do with fire. Literally nobody else can do it.

I'm glad to be Fire Bending Master, I learned from dragons, I born with combustion bending, also able to bend heat. Lightning generation, redirection and manipulation and Golden fire bending.
