I have a theory that combustion bending isn't nearly as rare as it seems, instead that most combustion benders are killed at a young age due to the lack of control over their ability.
I think it’s still incredibly rare just due to the amount of control etc but yeah I bet there’s only 2 known combustion benders because any other ones likely accidentally killed themselves.
Ok but can we talk about how terrifying P'li's death is? Like she felt so confident that she was going to win, most likely went all out (or at least used more power than usual), then her head gets encapsulated in metal, most likely cooking her brains. Idk about y'all, but the thought though of that is just awful to me.
bro . her brains did not get cooked.... they got obliterated.....essentially . the best way to picture this is that she had a mini nuke go off in her head......she shot plasma beams which were created by a mix of supercharging air molecules inside of a pressurized space until they explode or basically she was creating combustion like whats used to power cars. . . . . so if you want to know what happened to her head . imagine all the air in that box got crushed under so much pressure so rapidly that it was forced to expand outwards towards the much stronger metal causing it to push back against her soft head crushing it like a grape until the atoms split and the pure oxygen ignited under the immense friction and pressure causing a explosion with enough force to break the metal and allow the pressures to level out . aka it obliterated her head like a watermelon long before the explosion happened

I mean we only know of 8 avatars over 10000 years, so there’s definitely a chance. With greater than 25 avatars being from the fire nation, there could possibly be one we don’t know about
I’d like to think of them as a cult. There’s probably an extremely small group of talented fire benders who are passing along this skill. But because they are a cult you don’t see them or even know if they exist. P’ Li might have been part of the cult when she was younger then escaped but got caught by the warlord then got rescued.
Actually P‘Li was born with that ability and because of her ability she got kidnapped by some evil people so that they could raise her and then use her as a weapon but Zaheera saved her, thats why they liked each other. I think Zaheera was already a part of the red lotus thats why she also joined the red lotus. I am not sure tho
When no one remembers Zuko combustion bend when he tried focusing his chi trying to create lightning, although it blew up in his face he still combustion bended

I love how Sparky Sparky Boom Boom Man was such a threat to every bender but it was ultimately Sokka and his boomerang that beat him. That is his W and he should be proud of it
As a Hindu, I think it’s really cool how the creators used the symbol of Shiva’s third eye for Combustion Man’s tattoo. It also ties into how Shiva reduced the god of love to ashes with his third eye.
I'd like to see how adult Aang and the others tries their best to keep the peace in Republic City. The main villain would be Yakone, who we see in the flashback in LoK where Aang takes away his bending.

Personally, I'd like 3-4 seasons about Republic city being founded and it's development, the 4th season of Avatar that the creators had planned (although they kinda did that in comics I think), 1-2 seasons about Kyoshi or the White Lotus, and a series that follows the avatar after Korra, which would deal primarily with reforming the Earth Kingdom into a modern state, since it's perpetually in trouble, the development of the air nation, and a rise in nationalistic sentiment which always seems to be a byproduct of rapid modernization and a more globally connected world. It would be an interesting contrast to LOK's main conflict, since all of the villains seemed focused on ending relics of a past era (bending in season 1, the spirit separation in 2, governments and the avatar in 3, and monarchies in 4).
instead of eye bending u think their could be combustion bending without an eye u know when zuko tried lighting and it blew up in his face because he did not seperate yin and yang wat if he doesn seperate ying and yang and then do it at the last moment so the explosion gets some range to it instead of exploding in his face, just a idea
I always viewed combustion bending as another example of the elements being connected like Iroh and Guru Patik said. Combustion bending requires the chi control of fire bending while also having the spiritual and mental control of air bending.

I like to think the reason combustion bending is so rare is because, it's fire bending that incorporates air bending techniques. Seeing how the air benders had been gone for 170 years the number of combustion benders have decreased.
I've seen theories that Zuko might be able to combustion bend. When he attempts lightning bending Iroh straight up tells him he'll never lightning bend. The effect of his lightning bending is just a few explosions too.
Honestly I feel a little sad when I see the young Red Lotus picture. These were all happy kids that were probably their own team avatar in a way. They all have such amazing potential but they threw it away for such awful causes

I would love to see in a future avatar where the avatar is actually a combustion bender . Maybe the next fire nation avatar in the cycle. And while he learns how to master his elements of fire he has a internal struggle of trying to control his combustion bending while trying to hold the avatars legacy.

When you said "tattoo" and didn't mention anything about how the third eye is supposed to be involved with chi (qi) flow, I shook my head too many times. That's an important part of the reason why his Chi flow was blocked, and he couldn't combustionbend.
I like to think Combustion bending is a subskill of firebending in which the user has a peculiar chi of air and fire. With how powerful and wild both the bending arts can be, it requires extreme and intense concentration hence their third eye tattoo and how rare they are in the world. The beam we see seems to be compressed of airbending and firebending energy with the ratio leaning more towards the former as a means to deliver the payload. Just my thoughts.
Now I just would love to see a fire nation avatar be born with this ability, would make them far more dangerous then even a normal avatar because the concentration and skill combustion bending takes could be applied to all their bending as a whole. An avatar that fights with frightening skill and precision more then just sheer overwhelming power born of their avatar nature
I have seen a lot of people ask what combustionbending would be like during Sozin's Comet, but I have yet to see anybody ask what would happen if someone were to combine *lightning generation* with combustionbending. I'm imagining either a condensed lightning bolt or just a straight up electrical laser beam.
Ozai uses lightning against Aang multiple times during their fight under the comet. Comet enhanced lightning has one main advantage and thats speed. Ozai let off multiple blasts of lightning rapidly, but once he saw Aang redirect his lightning, he only used fire.
There once was a man who learned he could fart from his forehead and got some sweet tattoos to show people who's boss, then the next person did the same. OK that's not what happened but I like my version better
Well u still haven't answered the question how they got their ability did they just wake up one day to being able to shoot something out of their head?
Combustion bending is just firebending but they use their third eye, their mind controls the fire not the finger tips or toes, the tattoo is symbolic allowing him to concentrate his combustion through a single mark on the forehead, the tattoo is like the arrows on aangs body they are symbolic to help him control his air bending/Avatar state; think of the eye tattoo as a barrel of a gun if the barrel doesn't exist the gun explodes before fired if you add a barrel the bullet is directed and is able to shoot correctly
My theory on combustion bending is that it was supposed to be an elite force of firebenders that were supposed to use lightning bending during Sozin's Comet. It makes sense because, when Uncle Iroh was explaining lightning bending to Zuko, he said that it was used when you are calm, dividing your sea of chi in you stomach and have come crashing back together, creating lightning. But I (personally) think that being taken from where you live to be forced to train for the Fire Lord Azulon unconsensually is probably gonna give you PTSD. Also I say Azulon because of combustion mans age, build, and height. He was probably a really little kid when he was taken to train. This also explains how he has one metal arm and one metal leg, this also ALSO explains why he's an assassin when he first debuts in ATLA, why would you want to spend money to make technology for an amputee rather than just leave him to die? esp with how Azulon was like "Kill your first born and you get to be firelord lol" to Ozai.

I think it can be channeled thorough the hand if you think about when zuko tried to lighting Bend instead of him generating lighting it made a concentrated blast just like combustion benders
Iroh blasting the wall when the White Lotus retook Ba Sing Se looked an awfully lot like combustion bending. Charging up that fireball wasn't exactly like it, but the other special styles seem to be learnable.
If P’li had used regular fire bending in conjunction with Combustion bending, im pretty sure she’d beat anybody. For example think about this, what if Azula or Iroh could combustion bend, in addition to all the skills they already had?

The Three strikes and The Third Eye resemble that of Lord Shiva's features of Hindu Mythology. Lord Shiva possesses the same ability what we address as combustion bending in ATLA and LOK

I think combustion can be used by any firebender with enough training with chi. Pli and combustion man just were born with stronger chi and were able to learn it faster.
The firebending third eye of Combustion Man and P'Li is taken directly from the third eye of Shiva, the Hindu God of Destruction. Their third eyes are in exactly the same shape and design and perform a similar function to Shiva's eye, which is meant to destroy the whole universe if necessary.

@Avatar Korra wanna know something else? In season 3 of Korra not once was she giving a fair fight with any of the red lotus. Their first encounter - korra was sleeping -korra was trapped in the sprit world -korra was tied up when zaheer knocked her out with an air blast as she was giving her self up to free the air benders -korra was poisoned while fight zaheer. I know korra lost fights she had to business loosing but the thing is the creators wrote themselves in a hole. At the tender age of 6 korra could bend 3 elements! That's unheard of, they had to nerf her HEAVILY otherwise she'd go around kicking everyone's ass left and right. Not to mention she had to fight some of the strongest benders in history, I mean come on amon would kick any avatars ass if they don't have access to the avatar state. Which is why Aang was loosing against his dad, it was the avatar state that saved him. Another thing people act like korra was such a bad avatar. They say things like "the next avatar will only have korra for guidance... Good luck" and I say what's so wrong with that? By season 3 and 4 korra was way more level headed and she gave great advice. People love to crap on that show and her even though it wasn't as good as ATLA I still enjoyed it
