"It’s ok to be afraid because you can’t be brave or courageous without fear. The idea of being courageous is that even though you’re scared, you just do the right thing anyway." -Dave Chappelle
Easily the greatest celebrity acceptance speech ever heard. The cutaway to his mother while she mouths the end of the famous quote is nothing but awe inspiring.
@@HenkjanDeKaasboer perhaps I should have said ironic to be more precise. I consider DC to be a genius, a deep philosophical thinker, as good or better than George Carlin. Likely better because I think Chapelle does more serious subjects than Carlin. There is only one criticism I have. During his performances, he will refer to his child/Ren as "N" words casually. If we all want rid this evil word, why would he place that on his kids heads? It makes no sense to me if this is the worst word to use at a person. It seems rather exploitive for a laugh, which most do laugh....
Dave made me realize my purpose; to be great, to be human, to spread joy and be yourself and to die not wondering what happens next but knowing that you left the best of you behind. Salute. Thank you Dave.
@@localandonlinepreciousmeta3575 This is for grown folks and not for simple minded and uber emotional inclined person that you exhibiting here. So go home and be with grandmon and eat some cakes to feel good.
This man gets better with age. No one in the comedic world can hold a candle to him. He's honest ,,and doesn't let anyone tell him what he can't say. I could listen to him all day long, but it hurts to laugh that long. Thank you Lord for bringing Dave Chappelle to our world.
Educate? Chapelle peddles lies and relies on ignorant dupes to clap like baby seals every time he pauses. He gets emotional talking about slavery: "we were kidnapped. " That is a lie. Africans sold their slaves to Europeans. He is a liar.
@BFR Gaming he is considered greatest of all times, wherever people listen to comedy in English language His chappelle show is also considered greatest sketch comedy show of all times by many comedians, and many of the goats have said that he is better and smarter than everyone else ( including Bill burr, Eddie Murphy, Chris rock, David letterman, Kevin hart and the list goes on)
Incredible how someone can be so articulate, smart, funny, loved, successful & yet still remain humble, down to earth & uses his unpretentious power of speech & humor for positivity & bringing people together ♥️
He will go down in history as being one of the greatest entertainers of all time. One man, one microphone, and the whole world listens as he talks. Pure art.
That last speech (Mark Twain Award) never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Especially about his Mother, particularly the amazing editing to show his mother remembering and speaking those words she told her beloved son so many moons ago. Dave Chappelle has gotten a lot of flak for things that people of this age of over-sensitivity misconstrued as bias and hateful, when in reality it was quite the opposite. I love him dearly for his strength and bravery in the face of a society that will without much thought strip a person entirely of his livelihood and his life work because of words. . . . even more to the point, jokes. Comedy. Comedy is truly one of the last sacred alters of art that we have to express ourselves (along with music and other means of poetry of the human soul). These alters must be protected at all costs, for they are the most purest forms of ourselves. As with Music, Comedy is the release and expression that we NEED to remember & harness the beauty of life and to laugh at the pain, evil & anguish all the same. Without them we would implode from the stress, fear and horrors of the world that humankind experience and produces. . . . It is a necessary tool needed by all people to get through it all. Dave is a master class at his craft. He is a seer of our kind. . . . .A sage, a philosopher and a revolutionary. We will probably not see a person cut from the same cloth like Dave for a long time, if ever. As with all Art, we must FIERCELY fight and protect it and those artists who are brave enough to bare their souls for the betterment of ALL people.
I'm one of those bottled up guys that hasn't cried a tear in years, but when he was making that connection with his mother while they said the same phrase together got me. I never had that connection with my parents, especially not my mother. I had 2 little tears just roll out of my eyes there and came to say something about it in the comments. However, you phrased it perfectly and in every way I felt. Thank you random RU-vidr and thank you Dave
Art can be used for evil too. What do you think propaganda films are? The Third Reich relied heavily on it and the films and speeches are still being studied for their techniques. Just because the execution is artful does not mean society should tolerate it or even accept it. Comedy, like any other form of speech, still has consequences. As times change, so do the consequences. You can disagree with the changes and even fight against them just like another person could agree with the changes and advocate for them, but to claim that all art must be accepted by everyone is nonsense.
They won't be able to cancel Chappelle ever! He's too bright and witty, he's mastered his art form and will keep up his work on his own terms. God Bless him. In my top three comics of all time. Hard to say best because I loved Carlin and you can't forget where these guys came from.
Everyone can learn something from Dave, he’s a legend. Doesn’t matter what color you are. Doesn’t matter your political party or agenda, religion whatever... he’ll make you laugh.
Man I connect with the pride of Dave Chappelle in this video on so many different levels. People need to be proud of their heritage, proud of the people who came before them to pave their way. There's nothing about Dave's speech here that I don't love. He's an absolute master of connecting with people.
Mark my words, the entire world will regret ever getting in this man's way. He is true to art form and a genius at his craft. The critics that work to silence him or block his path will be on the wrong side of history.
He has said in the past that him and the other great comedians of our time like Hart, Tucker, Rock, Griffin, Lawrence etc all hang out together and roast each other. What’d I’d give to be in that room for even 5 minutes. I know my face would hurt from laughing so hard. 📠💯🤔😎
Dave Chappelle is one of the only people I can think of that has such power in his words, and such power in his comedy. He can make me laugh in a second, and make me cry the next. His articulation and overall understanding of life is inspirational. You know how much he understands the bigger picture, and how much he appreciates life for what it is. Salute to him.
WE LOVE YOU DAVE!!! We got your Back. This African American Man is so Real, Intelligent, Down to earth, Insanely Funny, Fearless, and Balanced. Thank You Cancel Cultiure for putting the Spotlight on Our Precious African American PRINCE. Thx King, Keep up the GREAT WORK.
It is a pleasure for me to see and listen to Dave Chappelles, these speeches are great, I admire his intelligence and how well he speaks to the public, I learn a lot from him
Definitely one of a kind. I pray Dave that you stay safe in an evil industry and that you keep on spreading your unique brilliance that gives us the best medicine, laughter. God bless
Wow that last speech was wonderful and empowering. What an upbringing. Of course a person can conquer the world when they are raised right. :) beautifully said sir Dave
Dave Chappelle, Patrice O’Neal, Richard Pryor, George Carlin are my favorite stand-up comics. There also is Bill Hicks, Red Skeleton. No particular order. All have their own style and approach. But, Dave and George make you think. A lot of reality in their approaches. Thank you Dave.
Jesters have always been spitting truth while entertaining the masses. While leaders are always misleading the masses. Even go back to Shakespeare, king lear is a great example of it. The world hasnt changed at all
They are a mouse in a maze that just finds the cheese, but the one who knows about good and bad will realize their in a maze. Dave Chappelle. Well said.
I ran into Dave in Yellow Springs one day and just said what's up and kept on walking, Dave said "what's up man" and that was it. Great dude in every sense of the word great!
Jim carry and Dave Chappelle greater then you thought. I could not say my mother was proud of what I do but always proud of the man I am and have become because of her sacrifice.I could never repay you mom. Thank you wish you were here we would go to Hawaii like you wanted.
20:45 Seeing all of comics hanging on his every word. Some almost in tears. Speaks volumes just how impactful this man is in his profession. He will go down as one of greatest comics of this generation and I hope he lives a long healthy and happy life!!
So sweet the way he honored his mom! I liked the way she told him he'd be a good grio, and that she passed on all her stories to him. And that "sometimes you have to be the lion so you can be the lamb you are."
People like him are more than what they do! They transcend their chosen fields and in his case bring humour and light to the struggles of life. Brilliant man. How can you not love him! Glad he and his family can enjoy their success
Dave Chapelle might not be the most "ear friendly" comedian ever. That's okay, hell that's more than okay. He is an honest man working a honest job, keepin' it real. Truly inspiring the things he has done over the years. We love you Dave. We love you because we know it's a joke. Thank you for making us laugh, we love you
I liked when he said: “I hope all you critics learn from this. This is a teachable moment. Shut the fuck up forever.” after poorly reviewed Sticks & Stones.
This man should be celebrated more than he is. He has brought certain topics to the forefront of many peoples mind (including mine) moreso than others that have come before him in the same forum. He also stood against the "Large Networks/Companies" and came out on top. He gave up a lot to spread his knowledge and wisdom, for better or worse. Keep doin' you Dave!
I had to close my business yesterday, to hear him joke about knowing when to leave made me laugh and also forgive myself, everything will be okay. Long live Dave Chappelle.
As a proud Irish man Dave Chapelle is the greatest comedian and an outstanding philosopher who is helping to change people's outlook on life for the better,I just wish there was another few billion people with his thinking out there. He is the only comedian that would sell out any show anywhere on earth.
In a world gone mad,Upside down and insane at times. I thank you, bringing us back planet earth. As men we have a duty, to laugh with our community our family add ourselves and each other. God bless your mamas soul, and yours as well.
Good and Bad is a compass, helps you find your way. A person who only does what's better or worse is the easiest person to control. They are a mouse in a maze that just finds the cheese, but the one who knows about good and bad will realize their in a maze. Dave Chappelle. Well said.
Dave is a lot smarter than people give him credit for. His talent is being able to reach people to get the to take a glimpse of your side. The man can make you laugh without saying ONE VULGAR word and that is talent.
He remains such a naturally funny performer that he is always worth seeing. And where his greatest gift was once the conspiratorial way he would introduce an idea.
