The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

That's true but it's only part of the story. Levi also had a realistic assessment of himself as a solo artist and the value in the name The Four Tops. He may have had to split the money 4 ways, but he was around David Ruffin, the great singer who thought SO MUCH of himself that he was certain that he would have a solo career that was the equal of The Temptations success. He was wrong, as history has shown. He had two hit records only after the Temps, 7 years apart.

I was in the Philharmonic hall in Liverpool watching the Temptations play, Otis broke the sad news of Levi's passing, and gave a shout out to his friend mr Stubbs,, I cried

I'm 60 years late but I'm in love with Levi. I'm loving those suits with the red/black suits looking so suave. These guys are awesome I love there bond and 3 are having so much fun. They were zero problematic and I respect that they stayed together so much because people can be greedy.

This is a oldy but a goody! But the 4 Tops were the best of Motown and the lead singer was as loyal as anyone could ever be! Levi Stubs would never leave the 4 Tops, and a50 years later, Duke is keeping the songs of my youth alive! Thank You Duke!

The Four Tops look good. They always get compared to the Temptations and dont get as much credit because their footwork wasnt as fancy but they still look good, dance well and sound great.

Dear Ed Sullivan person in charge on here.. Please put up 1964 Connie Francis Found myself a guy with Frank Sinatra hosting. Please put the whole beginning to the end of that whole section up. Frank fully talking to the end where they are hugging. It's 1 of the best ones on the show 🌟 ❤ It will make my New Year and many others too. Connie and Frank just had their birthday on the 12th of December. They were close friends ☺ I also request Connie Francis Winchester Cathedral ☺✌

Now this is how to post a video with the medley intact. But the individual song segments are shorter, so they were more or less forced to post the whole video as is. But what a difference in the entertainment value to see a whole performance.

Reminds me of the Rooster Tail in Detroit back in day of great Motown Music! Levi and the Tops were my favorite to listen to on the Detroit radio across Lake Erie to Cleveland!

Ed managed to get the introduction out......I thought he was going to introduced them as "The Four Champs". The opening song was very corny........they must have done that because of the nightclubs they were playing at the time.........the closing song too........the Ray Bloch Orchestra kind of sucked the Motown right out of the the original arrangements. That said......The Four Tops were magical.

@mhertz2563 ...The introduction of the Tin Pan Alley song was derived from "When Your Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You)." The Four Tops are professional entertainers, can also sing any song, good, bad or indifference. The same goes for the rest of the legendary Motown artists.

some perform live and some dont. a live performance on the Ed Sullivan show was The Jackson 5 Medley but some performances on here are lipsynced.

Wrong. All Ed Sullivan performances I ever saw were live. Shows like American Bandstand and Soul Train were another story.
