@@khalidfalvey4148 This music, Motown, started around 1960, when the south was still segregated. Music was segregated, black stations played music by black artists, and white stations played white artists. This music crossed over and black and white fans loved it. The radio was forced to play it. Blacks and whites had a common thing they loved, the music. It brought us together. It was the start of integration. How do you not know this?
These songs defined my love life during the 60's. I am a 72 year old white guy who just loves Motown. I used to sing My Girl to the lady that became my wife every chance I got. We loved, laughed, and cried as these songs helped define us. Thank you so very much for sunshine on a cloudy day. Motown forever!!!
I am a 73 y/o Latino guy and use to do the same, sing to my girl back then, but we are still very good friends with really good memories of the years. Fantastic Music from two of my favorite groups. Love to all.
I am so glad to know and understand that music has been a melting point for so many generations of conscious people, let's just say it great music is just that great talented artist singing from their 💜❤️ heart, soul and excited to be alive!
Wow! This is from Motown 25. Later the same night, Michael Jackson performed the moonwalk for the first time. That’s what people remember most. But the entire event was incredible. Very, very underrated was Marvin Gaye’s performance of What’s Going On. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a8eFHj8WmnA.html
BREATH TAKING!! here we are in 2023 and nothing like these 2 groups and their performances has been done. This right here speaks to the testament and impact this music / musicians have left in history. Beautiful!!!!
Still brilliant! Not just the singing performance but the orchestral backing! Have been listening to this music for the last 60 years and never tire of it.
Levi Stubbs had a unique voice with an uncanny, supernatural quality that comes along once in a lifetime. There hasn't been anyone who poured all his heart and soul into each song like Levi before or since. He is greatly missed.
The Four Tops and the Temptations are. two of the greatest ever soul groups in our history. Their hits are so classical. man, oh man. The Four Tops their classical I go for is If I were a Carpenter and the Temps Beauty is only skin deep.. RIP Baba Dennis Edwards, Baba Mel Franklin, Baba Levi Stubbs, Baba Obie Benson and Baba Larry Payton.
These guys had no grudges , they loved each other despite the fame and pomp each of the groups had during the 60's &70's. wow!!! look at Dennis Edwards giving Stubbs that warm and bortherly hug!
Outside of M.J. doing his Moonwalk: this was the most talked about performance!! Truly breathtaking! No politics, swearing, stripping off their clothes, just doing what they knew best! SING IT BROTHERS!! SING IT!! Audience reaction?? PRICELESS! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nothing but Talent vs Talent... That's all these guys were was nothing but Talent. I would love to see the two of them decide a World War!!! We would die happy people. GOD bless us all!
I'm a middle aged white guy and was blasting and singing these.....friggin awesome....love Motown. When we were teenagers in the late 80's me and 3-4 of my friends used to jam this stuff during keg parties(Chicago area) and start singing. People thought we were nuts
It's beautiful the way music brings everyone together. My best friend is white and I fell in love with her family when I went to her grandparents home and saw they had the original motown records.
No you are not nuts i was dancing to this music back in the 70s in the UK my generation was into this type of music back than plus we were dancing to Northern soul too which was rare soul records that the djs brought from the USA Northern soul started in the North of England that's how Northern soul was born in the untied kingdom we had alnighters where kids could go to dance to Northern soul back than it is still a big thing over here we still have motown and Northern soul events around the UK and its being past down to the kids its very popular over here in the UK we take it very seriously we have our own unique way of dancing to motown and Northern soul both dancer's are very similar but with northern soul it's more high kicks and back drops and spins watch a Northern soul dance on RU-vid we also have aldayers and weekenders too motown and Northern soul has never died over here motown started over here in the 60s with the mods and motown was popular with smoothies has we were known in the 70s we were like mods but with Northern soul they are known has soul boys and girls im now a soul girl because im into Northern soul but i was a smoothly back in the 70s
I probably commented before years ago and I will comment again now I’m 65 years old and I love them love them love them all and I’m so so so happy and blessed that I can watch this. I love them all so much so so much. Thank you thank you thank you. I miss them all. They will definitely be at my memorial and I will come back to hunt anybody that doesn’t help put them there because that is my wishes. These two groups are the best ever and I am so blessed to have grown up with them and heard both of them. I’m truly truly grateful.
I'm a 59 year old white guy, and I just nearly danced myself into cardiac failure while listening to this video. Can you possibly imagine the damage I could have inflicted on myself if I were an older person of colour? Absolutely tremendously good music. Timeless. Enduringly invigorating. I'm so thankful to you for posting this!
@@tainaayiti Ya just put more cut in your strut, More glide in your stride, And if ya don't dig it, Ya got a hole in yer soul, And ya don't eat chicken on Sunday! So turn out the light and hold me tight And push, girl, push! - Frankie Crocker
It is utterly IMPOSSIBLE to make a choice between these two iconic groups,so I ain't gonna...every man up there,jaw-droppingly talented, every song....a national treasure,IMHO,....there isn't a Motown song that somebody DOESN'T know....we know them,we sing them, they are legendary! Also, isn't it true, that sometimes one just NEEDS to hear some Motown?
Oh you see color. That's why you had to make the "I see no color" comment. These were very talented black young men who were mistreated but still overcame in spite of, to become successful artists. Oh you see color. You'd see it if they were walking down the street and not holding a microphone in their hands.
Of course a white guy like you will say "No color, just music." The color component will always be there mate. These guys performed at the height of discrimination and perservered. Don't discount the color component as It's an important part of the REAL story.
@@aimannorzahariwod As a white guy may I say of course the colour component should always be there, without meaning to cause offense. The reason I say that is if I were black I'd be damned proud of Motown and all the extremely talented artists that came through there. These 2 and The Drifters I adore the most with Sugar Pie Honey Bunch that cherry on top for me, only improvement being it could be 5 mins longer.
The best part of that whole performance’s is the embrace at the end it shows the amount of love they have for each other, and the lesson we can all learn about competition and respect for each other..😊
Levi Stubbs and Dennis Edwards were, to me, the best male lead singers that Motown ever produced. This clip is a historical gem that shows 2 groups at their peaks. Never to be replicated.
@@josephwallace3625 Oh yeah ..None back then thru today could sing like Eddie. Unique voice! When heard you knew it was Eddie.. Continue Riparadise Greats 🙏🏽
It DOES NOT get any better than this. I’m a Classic Rock guy now, but Tempts and Four Tops got me through Jr. High and High School in the ‘60’s. It didn’t matter who you asked, but even us scared/nerdy guys could get a girl out on the dance floor because you cannot help but dance to this music! Thanks for getting me through puberty guys (without too much damage).
I’m 33 year old & my parents brought me up on this music with northern soul & i wish i was there at that concert right now 😩 the music makes you come alive no matter what difficulties you face in life. As much as i love the Four tops the Temptations have my heart in music ♥️
Same and I'm 37. I feel sorry for young people who don't get the opportunity to hear the oldies. I played my 8 year old all kinds of music driving in the car, he sings 'I'll be there' at the top of his lungs
I was born in 1999, currently 22 years old, and Canadian... This is what comes to my mind when I think of great Americans and black excellence. I grew up on this music thanks to my parents, and it's agonizing to me that people my age don't really listen to great artists like The Temptations or Four Tops. Pure talent and class. The bar has been dropped so low for my generation... I'm sick of all the derrogatory rap that sounds all the same. May my generation come across the great works of these artists from bygone eras and discover what beauty it all has.
I remember the night this aired, my Dad recorded it. Every weekend my sister and I would watch this at my Dad's house and this performance, the Marvin Gaye performance and of course the Michael Jackson moonwalk performance was HUGE. This whole show is legit one of the most important shows I watched on TV as a kid. Turned me on to my parents music and music I hadn't heard yet. Thanks for the memories and RIP dad!
Pure talent and class right here! I especially love Levi Stubbs. What a handsome and talented man. No artist or group today can compare to the legendary Temptations or Four Tops. Love them both. Motown forever!
I’m a 57 year old white woman in Australia- born in 1962 and I have been OBSESSED with these guys, Marvin, Al Green, MArtha & the Vandellas, ALLTHE MOWTOWN LEGENDS since I can remember- THANKYOU FOR THE MUSIC- I wish I had been born 10 years earlier and in USA where I could really have been a part of the music as it all happened! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful. Simply wonderful. I've loved Motown since early 1960' s. These two groups, together with The Supremes, Marvin, Tammi, Martha and her Vandellas, Stevie, and a host of others, make it worthwhile getting up in the morning. Motown occupies a huge chunk of my life, and my heart. Play it every day. Thank you Mr. Gordy, from this ancient white man. PS. I actually got to see Stevie Wonder, and The Temptations, live, in Wales. What great performers they all are.
Dammmmmmmnnnnnnn, this needs to be placed in a time capsule! The future can not afford to miss out on all this goodness, it must be share. So many good memories.
i know im asking randomly but does someone know a method to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any assistance you can offer me
I remember when I saw this for the first time. I was watching the special and when this happened I said to my household, we are witnessing something extraordinary. It rocked my world. These two groups were the background music to my life in the sixties. Seriously, their songs were humming away on our family radio in the late sixties marking every step our way. Sad, good, bad and happy. It was these two groups and their songs that defined that era in my life.
Each of these groups were great, and Motown was the structure that made it happen, for these 2 groups and countless others. They created a cross over market to the benefit of all. Outstanding, in my humble opinion.
Absolute awesome the lot of them now that is TALENT . And may the guys who have sadly passed away from the Temps and four tops may they all rest in peace and thanks so much for your sensational songs
MOTOWN - The encapsulation of true music and performance. Motown made my life go round, even though, back then I could not understand a word they were singing. What a wonderful time it was back then.
Great music, I grew up in Detroit listening to these two great groups. It brings back so many memories, listened to them on Detroit radio all the time. Great artists!!!!!!!!!!!
Between the audiences reactions and these men jammin and enjoying themselves I smiled throughout this whole performance. As a millennial I wish that I could’ve been alive during these moments. It’s amazing and beautiful to see. ❤️
I saw this show when it aired. It WAS epic. From this performance to Michael Jackson's moonwalk debut. People also forget this show was the Jackson 5 reunion and michael and Jermaine had been estranged for years before this show.
Bryce Tsukishima Probably the two great groups of all time. I know the Beach Boys are up there but I have The Four Tops at the 1, Temptations at 2, and BB at 3.
2 of the most icon groups to ever walk the earth!..wat a mix of fav songs together live..yep im still listening in 2020 April!!!!..whos stil listening!!!🤗
