I'm just "reachin' out" here but I surely miss the sound of the 1960's, growing up in Lansing MI, [my cousin went to the state blind school there with Stevie wonder! and I didn't know it lol] being brought together by all kinds of music, and this song has got to be one for the greatest. Here's to the days of AM radio where you could hear almost everything worthwhile and thumbs down to the 80 bazillion separate channels by the media today that separate us all in more ways than just music.

Dig those moves! And that bass line is definitionally groovy. Motown! The songs were mostly in house, so no foul on the Jackson 5. When you're ready for more from The Four Tops check out "Bernadette", "Baby I Need Your Loving", and "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" among others from the sixties, and from the seventies "Ain't No Woman (Like The One I've Got)" really shines too.

This is the music I grew up with so I love how you respect it so much! They all wore suits in the 60's. I'm sure it had to do with not trying to be "radical" to the TV viewing audience. But, they took it to a new level in the 70's when the suits became more fashion statements than compliance.

I love all those old Motown records. I had at least 100 Motown 45's back "in the olden days" as our (now adult) kids will put it. You might like to get into some of those, too. Here are a couple to get you started down the Motown rabbit hole: The Supremes - "Stop! In The Name of Love" The Temptations - "My Girl" with one of the most iconic intros in rock & roll. Jamerson's bass and Robert White's brilliant guitar line make this as instantly recognisable as anything in rock. Add "Papa Zita" and the rest of The Funk Brothers and you've got one of the greatest backing bands in modern American music. The first thing that grabbed me about this song was that unmistakable, propulsive groove of Jamerson's bass. James Jamerson is, without question in my mind, the most important, most influential bass player in the history of American music. Jamerson's inventive style has been cited by the likes of John Entwistle (The Who), Sir Paul McCartney (The Beatles, Wings), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Chris Squire (Yes), Lemmy (Motorhead), Bootsy Collins (P-Funk), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and even the man I consider the greatest to come along since Jamerson, Geddy Lee (Rush) and a whole host of others too numerous to mention here.

Wow, the Four Tops.. They were ALL THAT way back when I was a lil girl Twon... A great Motown male group.. But, for real without Levi Stubbs , the lead singer, the group would not have been as fire... He had a damn POWERFUL voice.. You knew it was the four tops, just on the strength of Levi's voice.. Plus, he was a fine black male too, which added to the hype... Check out more of the tops hit... They were AWESOME, Twon.. Alot of old skool radio stations use to do singing group contests.. It was ususally the four tops against Temptations... Trust me the tops ALWAYS won... And yeah, you right, The Jackson 5 got their lyrics from this here song... Hugs..💜🧡💚💛🤎💙💕

Hi @No Limit Twon!!! Glad to see you enjoy this classic!!! Great ear to hear the similar lyrics!!! I never noticed similar lyrics/chorus between the J5 “I’ll be there” and this. The lyrics are different though. Same sentiment however. IMHO Both groups were in Berry Gordy’s Music Machine so could be that is where the similarities originated. I remember as a child when fam played the clean up music on Saturday’s I thought that sound was a horse galloping. Have you reacted to “Ain’t no Woman like the one I got” by the Four Tops? Think it may have you in your feels a tiny bit. If not… I highly recommend!!!🗳🗳🗳🗳🗳 Mr. Levi Stubbs (R🎙P) voice is another from that era a person never forgets.
