I’d always assumed that the user of the third magic left the world to enter the root itself, the descriptions of what it means to be a materialised soul often reference being connected directly to the root without needing mana from Gaia, so if anyone could actually enter the root and still be themselves it might be them! That way the third magician would have quite literally left the world without being, well, dead
*Spoilers for those who haven't read Tsukihime* About the Third Magic user and how they are immortal but can't die. I'm reminded of a line that is mentioned in Tsukihime that all living things have some sort of "death" or "end" built into them and that to become immortal would mean you wouldn't be living any more because you have no longer carry "death". "The Serpent" reincarnates into humans through his soul, something I'd call very close to the Third Magic. But even then, it's made clear his immortality would only last as long as humanity exists. But to "The Serpent" it isn't an issue because living past humanity's extinction would be meaningless and would be his "true" death of his immortality. I say all this to say that it's perhaps the Third Magic user could still be in the world, existing as an immortal, but might not be considered to truly be alive since he has no "death." Just a thought.
That's a good theory. Maybe its Angra Mainyu? He is a close candidate considering his connection to the Holy Grail, an item we know can use the Third Magic

@@moss9602 humm honestly To be fair, I don't think any of the main trio has anything that can be considered as romantical chemistry yet not mention aoko doesn't mention or talk about him when she appear in Melty Blood, with Aoko mentioning Alice but not him at all and if there is any romance Soujuurou and Alice are the only love interests and Aoko's just immune to romance and just best wing man also worth noting that when Shiki splits into a piece for every woman who has heroine/romantic potential with him, there is one that is clearly meant for Aoko. I have a theory for why the glasses are unbreakable, and it’s tied to the 5th magic, so you know how in mahoyo aoko stole time, what if she stole time from the glasses and put an infinite rewind on the glasses, the moment they are supposed to break it resets.

Tbh I will always continue to believe the third magic user to be Jesus due to the hints on when it was made/when the user was alive and the fact that he had “disciples”. Plus the nature of third magic uses the word immortal in a unique sense since it is only referring to the soul. The immortality of the soul resulting in it never returning to akasha, basically what happens to shirou in heavens feel(though his was imperfect) The materialization of the soul only saves the soul, or rather makes the soul able to survive outside of it’s body and avoid returning to Akasha. The immortal soul is a core belief of Christ, him pulling off in fate terms the third magic when he died on the cross and came back days later. Looking at immortality in this sense allows the two statements to coexist. Then theirs the homunculus, they are attempts of Jesus, being the purest human that was free of sin. The word purity is used specifically to refer to their closeness to the user, the only thing they lack being a true soul. Sieg himself was called perfect and I don’t think it was a coincidence they used him as the main character for the grail war with 2 saints(3 if you count St. George) with him being called pure and perfect. Then theirs funny enough Solomon who basically pulls off what I believe to be a true magic feat, removing himself from the throne(he would have to remove himself from the root itself to that) I believe this was a form of third magic(not to the same degree as the original user). This feat possibly being only possible due to in Solomon’s own words, him returning his gifts to God(which god then takes his shit from the root) I simply believe the Christian servants are on this level, with Solomon himself being the teacher of kaleidoscope and the Mage’s foundation founder. To round this up, I think the immortal soul of Christ fulfills both the requirements of being immortal(his soul) and having disappeared(went to heaven/maybe a second coming hint, or maybe he’s really chilling as a soul on earth or another dimension somewhere)
I held back mentioning the very on the nose stuff like the imagery/themes surrounding the third magic. I’ll just list them off, takes the form of a holy grail in holy grail wars(which has a lot of implications if you know the symbolism of the grail), in fgo we call any large clump of energy a holy grail at this point(thus playing off the idea of souls becoming perpetual motion machines), saints and their thoughts on the holy grail(especially Amakusa in apocrypha, he was gonna do heavens feel on everyone, “possibly meaning early rapture?”), inside the greater grail in apocrypha it looked like Avalon which has heavy ties to either Eden itself or god at the very least with you having to be free of sin to enter, there are most likely more examples I’m just forgetting to mention, feel free to remind me of them if any
@overlordwarlordtheomnilord9473 nah, it's Merlin. Almost everything points to it being Merlin, and don't forget Avalon is based on legends that existed before Christ and Merlin is said to have been there before tutoring Artoria and also after.

@overlordwarlordtheomnilord9473 literally everything you listed as suggesting Jesus applies to Merlin. On top of that, we know he qualifies as grand caster while still being alive, he is currently the only confirmed immortal, he is half spiritual so his soul is immortal, and the world itself rejects his existence(something that happens to all with true magic). It'd actually be weirder if he wasn't the owner of the third true magic since it helps explain his contradictions. Also, he's the creator of the first(as far as we know) and only perfect homunculous, Mordred.
In the Nasuverse, to get True Magic you need to reach the Root. Then survive the Red Shadow, and come back. Congrats, you're one of the most OP characters in the setting.
@@Forsakenruler That isn't really explained in detail. According to the wiki, it is attempted via "reaching the pinnacle of a certain concept". Of course, there is also the Grail wars, but that can only be done via sacrificing all 7 servants, including your own. Either way, it's difficult.

I don't really get how true magic would cease to exist with the death of the magician or how they're its creators. Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be something that already fundamentally exists as part of the world and magicians just make it accessible to humanity? I think the phrasing for some of this is needlessly confusing and restrictive.
I think it’s referring to how only the magician is the only one who has access to True Magic. If the magician dies, the True Magic would be lost and no one would be able to access it again unless they gave to somebody else.
@@friesforlife8120The Einzberns getting the third true magic seems to rely on being able to get it even without the magician. I don't think they really need to designate an heir to pass it on. That just helps make sure someone is working on and will eventually be prepared to take their place as a magician should they die. If the magic was permanently lost without them, that wouldn't be possible.
@@taiga738it’s that in any world a path to the Root can only be used once so while to people can unlock the same true magic they have to do it differently
