Damn, I'm totally shocked to be saying this as I never even took it seriously, but seeing the four of them lined up like that just at the beginning of the video, it looks to me like open and play is actually the best looking one!
Great comparison. To me, Toyworld come last because of its styling. I love the chunkiness of UT but I can not get past those yellow feet. Over all Fans Toys is the better toy, but, I think OnP does everything better. Yes it has its Cons but none of them detract from the Pros. That canopy change from car mode to helo mode is great. The way the legs split and fold in on themselves into the under carriage is pretty ingenious. If it had a premium paint job and die cast, it would be perfect and it would have more than doubled the price. Still I’m glad I went with the OnP. Just need to find a better head/face.
Agreed! definitely unique toys takes it all. i do have unique toys and openplay big spring. for the price for Openplay big spring, to me, worth every penny.
All based on MO (My Opinion) - From BEST #1 to Least #4 Colors: FT, O&P, UT TW Bot Mode: FT, UT, O&P, TW Car Mode: O&P, UT, FT, TW Heli Mode: UT, FT, O&P, TW *all were super close & w/xptn of TW could easily be interchangeable. *All Helicopters look pretty darn impressive & all Helicopters are better than their respective car modes. *Not knocking TW, it's a good product but it's not an MP from a cartoon, movie, toy perspective Criticisms: O&P - Shoulders, odd face (flat) , chest needs offsetting color around yellow bars (adds depth) UT - Maybe a lil too chunky, car/heli mode center front angle wrong way (should be wider across at bottom & narrower across at top) FT - Colors are muted, not fond of the shoulder pads, car looks elongated TW - Obviously not an MP, but as a Studio Ox look, it is pretty darn good (comparing apples to oranges) Overall, imo: UT, FT, O&P, TW It would be interesting to revisit this comparison when XTransbots Virtus comes out, exchanging the Toyworld's for the Xtransbots version.
@41:00 I get what you're saying but helicopters do go from thick to narrow. Yeah, he isn't the exact correct shape of a helicopter but he isn't as far off as you're thinking.
His most peculiar mode is car mode. Seen so rarely cuz the 'bot can just fly everywhere right? Gist I got from the movie. But if you slow down all 6 seconds of his car mode in the movie, he's actually shaped as a normal car barely wider in the front fenders. So the G1 toy and at least one shot from the 3rd season were different than his depiction in the movie; those shots looked like all these do here in car mode. Would have loved a longer sequence on Junk; maybe Wreck-Gar angers him a bit & Springer responds by showing 'em how driving is really done, just to get a better shot of him in car mode. Always hated that he didn't drive at all in the film aside from an evasive maneuver on Junk. Great video. Splendid comparison I much needed.
Great comparison Zak, this is what the community needed and please come post your vids in Transformers and Such on Facebook, we will enjoy both your TF vids and the ones you do with Winnie as well in our in group. I am still undecided on which Springer to sping for :) but you have made my choice easier by showing the differences brother. Great video!
I am of the few that likes TW's Spanner. For me, it looks the futuristic machine in alt mode (tires do appear small, but he is built for speed not 4 wheelin'), gives a fighter 'copter look in alt 2 mode, and there's no doubt, it's a robot in bot mode. Strongly harkening back, it stradles the G1 Toy, and G1 Movie/Studio Ox - It's not too big or too small, fits in well as MP scale (not sure where your definition is on that, but I assume good reasoning as always, and would be interested in your p.o.v.). It has no wonkeyness except for the squeeky arms and back "fenders" loose pin in (a furniture polish fix) I can shake him in alt mode every which way but loose! For me OnP's is too soft looking (maybe it's a Teen version?), and light plastic, UT's is nice, agreed, but just too darn big (How will I ever get an Arcee to straddle him!?;) Apache is best coloration, right on there, but it is pricey, and for transforming lotsa work and uncomfortable for peeps I've been reading more and more. TW's size, weight, solid modes, looks well next to my 3PMP's, G1 Toy/Ox look and price, clicked enough buttons for me. And for $60 good for now! MMC's version does look perty tuff though, but gain price. We all have different reasoning for what we like, and you are really dead on that anyone of these could be satisfactory for a large number of fans. Thanks for the all together review!
To me, I like the Unique Toys Springer because he is a Bulky character but for me, I have to go with Open and Plays Springer because he is cheaper and he can scale well with my other 3rd party transformers
Open and Play Springer looks good in all modes except car and helicopter. But in robot mode you also have to deal with the chest not tabbing at all, and an awful face sculpt. Basically, that figure is great, if it doesn't bother you that it sucks.
@@ChaosUnit178 i also did notice and wondering if the front wheel bumpers/cover were purposedly done to be not animation accurate lol.. i dunno why they had to reverse transform it when its not neccesary.. plus the canopy shape is lacks angles. im still waiting for xtransbots or even an official release.
The unique toys is my favorite of these four. I bought it. Xtb virtus might be the best looking but I suspect it'll be a nightmare toy. I agree fans toys is almost too serious to be any fun. They do nice job but it doesn't feel alive because it feels like a statue.
Well, Open and Play is cheap. It's absolutely not the same as good. Granted, for the price, it's a decent figure. But if you have access to the other figures, I'd recommend one of them instead.
I can review one as soon as I have one, but since I don't have a loaner, don't know anyone who has one, and I'm not getting it myself, that's probably not going to happen.
Xtransbots will win in all aspects on this one. I will get all of these but the toyworld because IDW??? I like Leia though. If you want to sell your Fanstoys hit me up because it is the only one I dont have yet
Perhaps. Given XTB's reputation, it seems likely that, sculpt aside, the figure may end up being needlessly complex, possibly riddled with QC issues, and may not come out at all. Or it may be amazing in all aspects of the word. Keith has a few good figures, and a few terrible figures, and doesn't have a real steady track record one way or the other.
Ninjad in and ninjad out... so funny. toyworlds version even for studio ox / IDW look or whatever just doesn't give off springer fanstoys car mode is too long bot mode is good.. paint/color is awesome copter mode is not porportioned well and too long is it me but the blades look like a mile apart from the body unique toys just too big, bulky in all modes i thought about it like this.. which of the options shown.. gave off the best balance of bot/car/copter I went with O&P the price point is a bonus.
Blazing Mewtwo I have not yet. In a nutshell, Big Spring is a MP scale figure but by no means an MP style figure. Simplified and easy to convert, I'd say it's more on par with a Leader Class figure than a Masterpiece offering. And the price tag shows it.
Yeah, the face is hideous, and the chest doesn't stay in place, but it is rather inexpensive. Preference is, of course, a matter of opinion, and if you feel O&P is the right figure for your collection, then it absolutely is.
I stopped watching at 7:15. Are you aware you say "umm" more than 31 times by this stage of your video? I'm not able to sit through it anymore, averaging that out would mean you possibly use "umm" over 200 times before this is done. Sorry man, editing is necessary here.
