One thing I would recommend is removing both seals and then thoroughly cleaning the old, gunky grease out of the bearing before repacking with fresh grease. Kerosene or mineral spirits works great for this. It will clean out all the random dirt and grit that the bearings pick up over time.

Great idea to re grease bearings. I have always done that. And never had trail side failures in over 25 years.

Thanks and I agree with you! A little grease will help bearings go a long long way!

Had a truck with 2.3 million km regular greasing. Original king pins. Grease is cheap.

I pack new bearings with synthetic moly grease before installing them. Brand new bearings have very little grease in them sometimes.
@bikermike
@bikermike 6 лет назад
Your right about new bearings having little grease in them... seems odd thing to do, and for sure moly grease is top notch!

Did you have to re adjust or loosen your belt to install the 4th wheel
@bikermike
@bikermike 3 года назад
If you mean the track tension yes I did loosen it to remove the inner wheels for grease re-packing, if you choose not to do that you may not need to loosen the track to install the extra outside wheels. No drive belt adjustment was necessary. Thanks.

What snap ring pliers are these? Tired of buying terrible ones
@bikermike

They are MAC tools ones. The end bits are changeable for different sizes. I've had them for a long time.

If you're not replacing the bearing why remove it? Can't you remove the retaining ring and the seal and then put in the grease?
@bikermike
@bikermike 6 лет назад
Yes that would work good too!
@gilbertglabb3209
@gilbertglabb3209 5 лет назад
This is just some advice in order to remove the bearing you have to hit the inner race witch can damage the bearing cage
@swdockter
@swdockter 3 года назад
@@gilbertglabb3209 it will damage the bearing. I will never reuse a bearing after beating it out. It will gall the surface the bearing rides on. Good luck! Maybe you’ll get lucky with that...but pull the seal with it in the wheel.

Hey Mike. Do you have to loosen the track to get at and remove/replace the inner wheels?
@bikermike
@bikermike 4 года назад
Yes I think I did, I made a couple reference marks with a black sharpie to get things back close to where it was. 9:58 you can see the mark

Did you swap out the front center spring yet?
@bikermike
@bikermike 6 лет назад
Bryce817 I installed a dual rate spring from Hygear. These skids have a falling rate leverage/linkage... so the dual rate helps reverse that problem. Meaning the further through the stroke the shock travels the easier it is to compress it. (Opposite of the the effect you want)
@bryce8174
@bryce8174 6 лет назад
biker mike how is that different than the zbronz or bill mohr everyone talks about?
@bikermike
@bikermike 6 лет назад
Bryce817 I’m not too familiar with those, but I looked at zbroz and it looks like they have a dual rate spring set up with cross over adjustment too.
@bryce8174
@bryce8174 6 лет назад
biker mike when you swapped out the springs what difference did it make, because that will probably be my next upgrade to my sled
@bikermike
@bikermike 6 лет назад
To be honest I didn't even ride the sled with the stock spring I just put the dual rate in right away. I had one in my apex and liked what it did for that so much I just got one for my viper. Suspension is always a good place to add some performance parts. Just give any of those reputable shops a call and ask about a dual rate spring for your sled.Make sure your shock isn't in need of a rebuild too.
