Exactly. Infection already there needs treating. Just swilling with mouthwash won't touch it. Disgusting breach of their legal 'duty of care' by both the Dentist & A& E.
This is why I tell people, DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!.If your doctor isn't listening, find one who will immediately. Only you know your self and your family, and you have to be your health advocate.
Yes. One person could've changed this scenario; a nurse questioning, wife appropriately demanding answers, etc. If he was very sick he needed someone advocating for him since the Doctor didn't catch the oral issues?
People forget doctors work FOR you. You pay them! If they don't want to do a thing, tell them to write that on your profile and print it for your files and then schedule with a new doctor (preferably at a different hospital as they may say something to the next doc tht sees you)
With any tooth removal due to it being rotten and infected, the patient should be given antibiotics. He had nine teeth removed in one go. Barbaric. Their "best practices" need to be sued into the dark ages where they belong.

Yeah. I've never not gotten antibiotics for dental work like teeth pulled. I just had work done and they gave me anti biotics before then told me to continue after and if I had any more symptoms of the infection continuing to come back. Antibiotics are not addicting so I don't get why they didn't give the guy antibiotics.
They’re prescribed before oral surgery for those with pre existing health conditions, usually heart conditions, Strep A travels, creates endocarditis, or valve regurgitation, more specifically I think the tricuspid & bicuspid Pneumonia has nothing to do with the dental work. So as far the legality As as the college goes, they aren’t going to have a man’s medical records except for dental & only his dental records if he previously had work done there His history of addiction would depend on how honest he was filling out the application
9 teeth pulled...no antibiotics, no pain meds, no nothing. WOW they really screwed him over. They should've taken extra precautions with him considering the state his teeth were already in.
This is a lawsuit for sure. As a dental hygienist I cannot understand why they would send this man home after extracting 9 teeth that were clearly so decayed they needed to be removed instead of restored. There was infection without a doubt and I don’t even need to see his radiographs or clinical exam.

That is true, but a simple course of antibiotics probably would have prevented his death. And the school should have put him on antibiotics BEFORE the surgery.

Peter Lightening. Swelling is not always indicative of infection. What was described by the physician could easily be normal post surgical swelling since it was a few days after the extractions

Back in the 70's I had a student friend who went to the dental college for a tooth extraction. She, out of fear I think, asked them every question she could think of before she made that appointment. They patiently answered all of her questions, and then set up an appointment. She told me, just as she had been reassured over the phone, only students in their last three months of dental school were allowed to do any dental work, (teeth cleaning being the one exception), without the close supervision and assistance of the licensed DVM..or also known in dental school as, the teacher. If, at this school here in Utah, ''we did the best based on what we know'', is their response, it seems to me the teacher(s) who assisted should be fired, because it's obvious even to a layman that antibiotics should have been given...prior to the many extractions. Sadly, at these schools, heck, even at your doctors these days, in order to receive treatment you're required to sign papers releasing them from any legal responsibility. If you go to the ER, the first thing, before even being seen by a doctor, you've got to give your signature releasing them from any responsibility. It is not the standard of care to give every patient who has multiple teeth extracted antibiotics. Even if the teeth are infected at the time. Rarely are they needed. The American Dental Association and the American Heart Association agree based on the evidence from numerous studies. Antibiotic overuse is a huge issue and also causes deaths. Many dentists, and pretty much all schools, won't give antibiotics over the phone. If he would have returned so they could see it maybe they would have. Going through Dental issues in life is just terrible but to finally be able to get him taken care of and only be able to afford to go to a school to do it is even harder but then to have this outcome is just the worst I hope that student and the people supervising the student carry this with them for the rest of their lives and hopefully the student and staff will never have careers in dentistry
I've never heard anything like this before. When getting teeth or even 1 tooth pulled antibiotics are literally automatically prescibed, at least to my knowledge anyhow. This is so messed up. 9 teeth pulled without antibiotics is sheer negligence perhaps even in the category of malpractice. This is so sad. May God have mercy on his soul
This is just horrible 😔 I had a dental implant and developed an infection without any signs or symptoms. I went for my follow up and dentist immediately noticed it and took my implant out and cleaned out my infected area. Sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics and pain pills. That same night I got home I had a severe fever and just felt so sick 🤒 I swear I thought I was going to die ! Fortunately fever went down and I didn’t miss one day of my antibiotics. This man could have been alive if it wasn’t for the negligence of the school dentist and the hospital 😔 my condolences 🙏🏼 R.I.P
So sad this man got such shoddy treatment. I'm so very sorry for his family. Unforgivable that they were so lacking in observation and or cared enough. This is truly a case of necessary truth to be told to the public, and school should be sued heartily. Let's also say an investigation into other mishaps in files. God Bless the family, friends, and the little girl who will not have her father to balance raising her. Wake up to all of us. On another note I'd like to say that I was treated at a dental office in WA for re- filling of two cracked molars. One needed a cap which on limited income and insurance, which I could not afford, so they pulled it. I was really sad about it. Then 2nd tooth, which had an unopened abcess. Same problem, no money. I have RA autoimmune so I said I need antibiotics. They said no need. I took care and it healed. Then I lost a whole lot of strength over a couple months. What's wrong with this picture? Oh by the way ADA: Fluoride is POISON. Nazis used.
Same happened to my my primary doctor took care of me gave me 3 strong doses of a antibiotic I believe my primary doctor saved my life I was so sick like I had the flu for days after getting my teeth pulled . That was 4 weeks ago now .
Everyone I have known that has gone in for tooth extraction here in Wisconsin has been prescribed an antibiotic to take before they go in for the procedure. Sounds like this dental clinic and the hospital are incompetent and probably liable for is death. Sorry for your loss!
I'm supposed to go in for a tooth extraction for an alleged infected tooth (an old root canal which crown I have lost, so I've just had the "stump" uncovered for about 3 years now), I had decided to try and take care of myself cuz I also have other teeth which hurt. Went to this one place where they ripped me off from the get go and charged me 200 for x-rays and a cleaning instead of the agreed 95 (xrays done right away, cleaning I had to BEG for them to even do on another date after repeated calls)...so that first day all they had to say to me was that I needed 13k worth of work including 3 implants and 2 extractions "and here is our in house discount plan please sign here and swipe your card there". So as you can see I do have a few issues right and am desperate enough...they scheduled the first extraction by forcing my hand, and I was so freaked out listening to them I agreed...until I found out that I would be given NOTHING for the pain safe. "You mean to tell me you are gonna do literal surgery on me, not just an extraction but a full on BONE GRAFT, and you won't even give me anything for me to be comfortable during the procedure????" they were almost like "duh whaddya expect", and acted like I was being unreasonable and a pain in their butts and that it would be an inconvenience but they could "organize" for some "nitrous oxide" if I was willing to pay an EXTRA 800 IN ADVANCE, and that it is "usually for children". Then when I asked well where is the bone graft gonna be coming from, am I not gonna hurt for that and they answered "oh no its cadaver bone, could be human or animal" I was like...bruh, what am I doing. I also had to beg them for antibiotics prior to the surgery. They finally prescribed 5 days of amoxicillin and ONE valium, half to be taken the night BEFORE surgery and the other half 30 mins prior to the procedure. Long story short I did pick up the 5 days of antibiotics and used them but couldn't even pick up the valium since the pharmacy wouldn't give me the ONE pill without talking to the dentist, which obviously at 8pm was closed (wtf, does it look like im could potentially be abusing ONE pill???) ...I'm finally telling myself maybe all those issues is the universe trying to tell me to go somewhere else. I have since called them to put it on hold and said I needed more time for the money blabla...and I have left it all in limbo til I find somewhere I feel comfortable or at least get a 2nd opinion...and I have been seriously procrastinating. I cant believe the things we have to go through to take care of our health, being in the supposed greatest country of the world. Now watching this video by mistake put the fear inside me even more. I'm scared to have waited too long and have the infection spread too far like this man. All the dentist stuff was in late february/early March, and its already almost May...God what have I done
Really sad..I stay away from dentists that say there is no requirement for antibiotics for teeth infections. I've been to a couple of them. Whenever I get a tooth infection I go to the immediate care and I tell them that I want antibiotics and they have always wrote me a prescription for it.
Exactly. Even with 1 absessed tooth my daughter in law was prescribed antibiotic before surgery and was sent to a hospital who had specialists for this very serious surgery. ??? In Houston.
@@theunveileressreginaecaeli5772 You did the best thing for yourself. You were in the wrong place and I can almost bet you they were not being truthful with you. Please don't let any more time go by though. Ask friends/family for trusted dentist and make appt right away. I'm going to pray for you but think you will be surprised that things aren't as bad as they said. Though, it is true. Only specialists carry "gas" these days and at an extra cost I bet you might not even need all that
I remember dentist giving me antibiotics before having my tooth pulled. He should have been prescribed antibiotics before dental procedure. There are locations and even organizations that do dental for low income.
