Ludo Michaud heard a loud noise. Then the car carrying him and his wife stopped.
Michaud and his wife, Esther Nakajjigo, were in Arches National Park. When he looked to his wife in the passenger seat, he saw what he calls, “the worst thing I hope I will ever see.”
Wind caught an unlatched traffic gate and turned it into the path of Michaud and Nakajjigo’s rented Chevy Malibu. The gate pierced the car, decapitating Nakajjigo. She was 25.

Death lurks around the corner for us all which is why we should respect and love one another at all times. It's also why everyone should ask and seek information about the afterlife; to see where God leads them with their faith. I know it comes across as fear mongering to some, but we have but a short time on this earth and don't know when that time will end. Don't waste it.

@brendanwood1540
@brendanwood1540 2 года назад
@@j.j.6535 Even at the posted speed limit if a driver did not have enough time to react and did not brake in time this type of damage would occur. It was a reinforced steel pipe braced like a truss and anchored to the ground in concrete. The small point of the pipe was facing the oncoming driver thus concentrating all the force of the collision into a point at the end of the pipe. There was no way that a pipe like that should be extended into the roadway. It is precisely for that reason that loads extending beyond the bed of a pickup truck need to be marked with a visible orange flag. Because it is very hard to see a long slender object from the end profile and it takes a minimum of 2.5 seconds to react. The gate should have been designed with bright colors as it is a roadside hazard. There could be guard rails to cushion a collision and divert vehicles away from solid stationary objects. Likewise a sign could warn oncoming drivers of the potential roadside hazard. The gate should have been secured away from the roadside and angled out and away from the road with a security device locking it in place. It was not his fault. It was a failure to adhere to civil engineering standards written in blood.

You do know that you have the wrong impression of the comment. The word "All" doesn't assume that everyone else has a dimmer light. There's no way that could be. I know and you know that there are definitely people who shine brighter than others and that others do not shine as bright. So I stand by the original comment, "We ALL lost on this one and it would be wonderful if we ALL could shine as bright.

Hmmm. I have much to say. Condolences to the spouse, family & friends in this loss... a loss to Africa for the contribution she was making with girls & woman in need there as well... & so much more that she likely 'might have' accomplished being so aspiring, intelligent, ambitious, young & beautiful... had she not fallen to this horrible, horrible tragedy. Investigators must determine the nature of the incident, "accident or deliberate". And was ANYone liable? The weather IS an act of God/Nature, but "any knowledge of it before hand" by either side, would make a degree of difference in man's responsibility, any negligence or liability, in my opinion. This tragic incident 'might have been' avoided... dependant by a majority first on foreknowledge of any 'weather alerts' for high winds & how dangerous. If the authorities 1) knew of extremely high winds expected, 2) were advised to bring inside or tie down any loose or 'movable' objects, 3) were advised to close the park, 4) did nothing to follow policy or procedure, 5) having such knowledge of dangerous weather before hand, left the park open to visitors... in ANY of those, there is responsibility & so, very possibly liability in this case. DEGREE of negligence or liability here would depend on the nature of weather alerts & advisors as well as any Park's or patrons negligence in them. FOR PATRONS of the Park, the direct victims of this incident, there also is responsibility to adhere to & heed any known storm alerts, the legal times for visits (open & closed times), appropriate speeds, etc (basic Park & traffic rules). Investigators for negligence or liability "will examine all those variables & more" before making any definite determination. Until investigators have finished their work... people, even the investigators will often make presumptions but they must be such that they remain open to further investigation, knowledge & consideration. To make any final assumption before all the evidence has been looked at... IS AS NEGLIGENT as getting a weather alert for dangerously high winds and taking NO precautions whatsoever, or totally ignoring the alert, deliberately walking right into the storm. High winds often tear off metal signs flinging them at people who choose not to seek shelter... unwise journalists challenging the hurricane winds foolishly risk getting decapitated by flying metal. I see this happened a few weeks ago; still early for a thorough investigation to be completed. The video tape not publicly released yet, should have many answers to how it happened... but liability will require further data as to weather alerts & any related negligence.

I don't understand how people on TikTok garner more attention than the loss of this young amazing woman. She was absolutely an Angel on Earth and is an Angel for all in Heaven. The victim was a very beautiful woman with a heart of gold and she is now an angel in heaven with another beautiful angel, Princess Diana. Both of the accidents these 2 women lost their lives in were devastating and tragic. The world lost 2 angels who put the lives of others before their own. I can't even begin to imagine what the family is going through with their grief. And how tragic her husband witnessed his wife's death and could do nothing to help her or prevent it. My ex wife was murdered by her new boyfriend with a car at the Moab overlook in the park. He hit her at 70+ mph and dismembered her body. Our daughters were only 5 and 7 years old at the time. This happened on August 10 2004. *Gabby Petito also had an encounter there with her boyfriend who murdered her soon after in Wyoming. P.S. The man who murdered my 34 yo ex is still in Utah State Prison until at least 2029.

My aunt, as a child, coming home one day witnessed a car accident where someone was decapitated and the head rolled right by her. 80+ years ago, children didn't get sent in for psych therapy for something like that. She has been a very sweet aunt but one that certainly has some mental health problems. A horrible thing to witness. This poor man.

In addition to using a lock and chain that was supposed to be in place to secure the gate open, welding a circular disc with about a 10” diameter x 1/4” thick to the end of the pipe, should be adopted. This type of large disc would have caused this pipe to skip off the front fender instead of digging into the car and penetrating through the door panel. Add a reflector to the face of the disc to help on coming drivers to see the gate is not fully opened would be one more step to save another life...
