Fox vs Eibach vs Bilstein 5100 - Leveling Kit Comparison

We dive into some of the obvious and not-so-obvious differences between these leveling-kit shocks.
Despite their ability to lift the front of your truck, they all ride a tad differently on and off-road. These differences are key to understanding to know what you're getting.
We've tested these 3 different options on 2 Vehicles and the results are very consistent.
‪@bilsteinUS‬ rides the firmest and provides biggest handling improvement.]
‪@FOXFACTORY‬ is the softest over bumps and trail chatter, but sacrifices a bit of handling
‪@EibachUSA‬ seems to hit the sweet-spot right between.

I have a 2020 ram 1500 new body style big horn with the off-road package and 62000km. Found out both my front struts were completely shot. Dealer quote for OEM replacement was outlandish. After watching your videos I replaced them with eibach stage 1 struts for cheaper than OEM and it's a night and day difference. Feels like a brand new truck. Great mix between comfort over choppy roads and handling when cornering and braking. Thanks for putting out these videos.

These are exactly the cases we love to hear about. Options like those Eibachs or the Bilsteins are often cheaper than the stock parts, offer better ride and handling, can give you some lift, and usually last just as long if not longer. In situations like these upgrading is pretty much a no brainer and a slam dunk just about every time.

Recieved my 5100s front and rear from you guys bout a month ago !! You guys are great they came litterally within 3 days an i live in maine,, box was damaged though im assuming it was shipping ,, but had them istalled at dealer and love the way the truck sits and rides! You guys are the best!,,, ps just so you know ,,,if you have a 1500 sierra or silverrado,,, z71 package which comes with a 1.5 lift already you can only go to the second setting on 5100s any higher an your control arm will hit the bump stop,, you have to remove the 1.5” spacer if you want the full range of settings,,, also youll need an alignment other than that its worth it im telling ya!

That is great to hear! We are so glad you're happy with them and we're truly sorry on the shipping carrier behalf. Yeah we did the same thing but instead we upgraded the UCA and ran a slightly higher lift off each setup.

Just received my fox 2.0 from you guys! Y’all are the best😎 (best price around and shipping was immediate). I Installed my 3 inch keys this morning abs will follow up with my shocks, new rear moog springs and 3 inch spacers for the rear.

I have the 5100 on my 18' f150 4wd with the Eibach pro lift springs on the 2nd ring groove from the bottom and the ride is very harsh. I'm hoping the Fox 2.0 will be better. 😊

We may get to RC at some point, since they've revised their shock program in the past couple of years, but its not on the agenda anytime soon.

Are the fox 2.0's the same as the fox roush 2 inch leveling kit? Also, for the daily freeway driver and occasional weekend off roader. Would you go with fox or the billstein 6112? I am looking for the most comfortable ride primarily.

They are the same parts. Fox 2.0 rode a bit too soft for street driving for our taste but handled much better on trails. Bilstein 6112 are much better for street driving, towing, and hauling. They hold up pretty well on trails but the Fox felt better there.

I am still confused. does the Eibach Stage 1 allow below 2 inch of lift? I keep hearing mixed information

Depends on which vehicle, but most of the time yes it will. There are numerous height settings on most of their adjustable height shocks and coilovers where you can remain at stock, go up an increment (+1" for example), and then the top setting is the highest lift, usually 2.5" or 3" on some applications. Thanks for the video, between the Eibach and the Bilstein; which do you recommend for highway and moderate offroading in a Colorado Z71? (I know Bilstein was good for my Ram 1500 but unsure about the smaller trucks)

Both work great so you can not go wrong either way. The Bilstein handles better and is better under a load, but the Eibach definitely the more comfortable choice.

They generally use more linear valving so if were to compare a 5100 to a Pro Truck Sport leveling or Stage 1 set up, the Eibach might have more bottom out support, or at least the same. The more digressive valving of the Bilstein means they can be a little firmer over smaller bumps particularly at lower speeds, and bleed off stiffness over bigger bumps. The Bilstein 6112s and Eibach Pro Truck 2.0 or Stage 2 kit are a different story. The 6112 uses a much larger 60mm piston compared to the 46mm on the 5100 and Eibach front struts and coilovers, so they are significantly more supportive off road.

Setting up the struts will be based on your preference. There is no right or wrong. It just depends on how much lift you want.

I have a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and after 205,000 MI the compressor failed and three of the four air shocks were slowly leaking. So I tried three different compressors and three different types air shocks and was never able to cure the inability to get the truck into Off-Road 2 mode because of a payload limit exceeded warning. I now have the option of eibach, fox and Bilstein and I have chosen extra heavy duty variable rate 70% over in the rear and extra heavy duty 35% over in the front Dayton Springs with Bilstein 5100. I anticipate this will probably be a much harder ride than the original air suspension which was luxurious at all times and I believe I will probably really miss it but the two dealerships I worked with could never figure out the payload limit exceeded problem, I guess I could try one more OEM compressor valve combo with replacing the ride height sensors and the control module and see if that would fix it but at what point do you throw in the towel? I did all of this work by myself and I swear I have wrinkles and a bad back from crawling around under this truck in the garage three compressors and three sets of air shocks. Another thing I'm wondering about is the airlift helper air Springs in place of the bump stops or Sumo Springs.

We've heard similar nightmares on the Ram Air Ride situation, the replacement costs is exorbitant and why people are deleting the system entirely, so you're not alone. The air lift springs/bags do a good job of keeping the rear level to where you want it, and of course maintaining height depending on loads. WHereas the Timbren/Supersprings option is static and may sag if you're really loading down the rear, albeit a simpler design and use.

I’m trying to figure out if the Eibach Pro-Truck shocks are linearly valved for the GM 1500 application. I’m not finding any information on their site talking about valving specifics.

we dont know of a single truck shock brand talking about their valving in specifics. Eibach will use digressive or linear depending on application. In general, they dont like to broadly categorize digressive or linear, because people will get the wrong impression. Did you see our review on the Eibach with our Silverado 1500?

Own a 2014 Silverado 1500 Z71 4WD, I do 90% around town driving on crappy paved roads. Looking at the Eibach Pro Truck Sport setup. Is there a big difference between the Eibach Pro Sport Setup using factory springs and the Eibach Pro Truck coilovers ?? I would put Eibach Pro Sport Truck shocks on the rear (Non Reservoir of course) set the front around 2" to level it out. Looking for a controlled comfortable ride. Currently have the Rancho RS9000 QuickLift upfront and RS9000 on the rear. No matter the setting they ride the same, horrible rebound. Front is harsh.

Since the 2.0 coilovers do not have to go back to stock height and are not limited by the stock springs, they cycle significantly more travel and will therefore offer noticeably better ride at 2" of lift in the front or more. With that said, either option will be lightyears better than the Ranchos

@@ShockSurplus Thanks for the insight, i know since i have the z71 it has the heavier spring rate @ 759 per the RPO code :/ That Is a firm front end want a good smooth ride without the harsh rebound on the rear end... just looking at $278 Eibach Pro Sport Struts pair vs $905 for the coilover pair. is the 600 ride difference in there :)

Hello and thx for the video. For your experience, which of the 3 will have less body roll on highway? I use drive a midesize truck, and i like the hard felling and regid ride on highway, so im concern about to change to a performance shocks and have too many body roll on highway

Bilstein will reduce body roll the most. The primary reason is the digressive shock, which is firmest in the ride zone. (no articulation in the suspension / shock)

I have a 2023 Bronco outer banks non-sas. Please recommend suspension. I like the hoss1.0 ride, but I'm planning to do a 2" lift up. 90% highway, 10% light off-road

Would I get more stiffness as well as fully extending the shock and get no travel if I put it on the 3rd setting with the 2.0?

The preload can potentially make it feel a bit firmer but note that the feeling or firmer or comfort is quite subjective. Every does feel things differently. We run most of our setup at the highest setting and it doesn't compromise ride quality for us. You would not be over extended the shocks with any setting options.

Bilstein and Eibach include a lock nut and washer for the top of their struts for 2006+ 4WD Ram 1500s so you are good there. If you need any other bushings or hardware, a good top mount kit like KYB part number SM5580 will include everything you need to bolt one of those struts up if your originals are missing or unusable.

Hi Jeff Thinking eibock for my 5th gen off road 4runner. Would like to level it with better performance compared to hockey pucks stuffed to add height. Mostly faily driving plus weekend trips off road.not much rock climbing at all. With stage 2 would that be around 1.75 front\ 1 inch rear lift? You think 275 70 17 tires would fit decent.

The Eibach Stage 2 would be a great choice. If you want it to be truly level you will likely want to keep the coilovers at their out of the box settings which is closer to about 2.5-2.75" of lift. Those tires should fit just fine with almost no lift in the front so you should have no issues slapping those on.

You can definitely get away with the stock arms at 2.5" but that would probably be the limit. If you did upgrade you would be able to run more positive caster, to push the front tires forward a little bit so you could get away with a 285 or a 33x11.5.

Question, I’m trying to get around 4 inches of lift in my Trailboss. The Eibach Pro Stage 2 won’t offer any lift since for my Trailboss since its already lifted 2 inches from factory, is there a way I can still purchase the Eibach Stage 2’s and maybe get the Ready Lift SST 2 inch lift to get both the 4 inch total lift as well as run the Eibachs with it? TIA

We won't have anything that can give you 4" on a trail boss. Most we can get is 1.2". Eibach doesn't offer anything for your trail boss.

You will need to put any circlip adjustable strut on a spring compressor to make adjustments, which means they are going to have to come out of the truck if you plan on changing height after they are installed. So it is not technically difficult by any means, but certainly is time consuming and fairly labor intensive.

I just installed bilstein 4600s in the rear of my 014 ram 1500 4x4, ordered the bilstein 5100s leveling strut. Want to just get a mild 1 inch front lift. Will my 4600s work with this set up?

That would be fine. There's nothing wrong with going with 4600 or 5100 in the rear while running 5100 in the front. The 4600 would feel marginally softer.

If you're going to tow or haul anything or want a firmer shock, then go with Bilstein 5100. If you're looking for more or daily and less towing/hauling and off-roading, then Eibach Pro Truck. If you want a daily and off--road setup, then Fox 2.0

@@ShockSurplus I have a 21 Silverado 2.7 LT 4x4. I have a 3.5” RC spacer lift on it. Yesterday I swapped out the rear RC base shocks for 5160s I got from you all. And was mind blown how much it helped the ride. I wanna keep my 3.5” upper control arms so I’d love a 5000/6000 series front shock that would go up 3.5” to match my current lift. I prefer the height the truck is currently at so I’d need a 3.5” shock. I really don’t wanna go coilovers just because of the crazy high cost😅😅

You'll need a 2.5 shock option to achieve the 3" or 3.5" of lift. Eibach gives 2.2" of lift on their coilover, so you could add a 1" spacer on top, but not recommended if you do serious offroading.

They are not all the same in terms on vehicle to vehicle. 2019+ Silverado 1500 (new body), the Fox 2.0 will net 2" at most but if you have a trail boss it's stock height only.
