Thanks for the tour of the iQ5 box It was great as we were concerned about how much different it is from our current IQ2. We have iQ5 ready to install (FTA antenna even connected) just waiting to ensure what we have watched all we have recorded as it will be lost when we activate the iQ5. While different it has good things that are new and not lost some of the things we like about IQ2 Thanks again.
Just got mine up and running. With On demand shows when you rewind and ffwd it uses a similar system to netflix by using 10 sec block of visual frame. When you record or pause a program the ffwd and rewind is just like the Iq2. The bonus is that all rewind and ffwd speeds are 2/6/12/30/and 60 times. Older remotes work with Iq5 too. No issues so far.
Thanks for your detailed experience notes. I have found that everything you used on the old system works with the IQ5, it is just better. For those looking for the stop button, they can still use the old remote for that feature and I fount a way to make it work on the new remote as well.
Thanks for the demonstration. Next video can you share your thoughts on how you feel upgrading from the IQ2 to the IQ5? Are there any things you miss from the IQ2? Also what issues have you encountered since using your IQ5 box for the past month? Any things you dislike compared to the IQ2? We are still on our old IQ2 box and looking to switch to the IQ5 in the future once they make the IQ5 available to satellite customers.
Hi UCO, I will do a comparison video soon after I have tried all the different scenarios as there are some things that are great and others I need to test a little more.
If your wifi operates on 2.4 and 5.8 ghz frequencies use the lower to avoid drop outs with iQ5 which kept happening to me me when i used the higher frequency.
Hi and thank you making and posting your IQ5 videos, so if you do not mind me asking? Are you on a Foxtel Cable service? And did Foxtel sent you the box without you requesting it? When you set it up, did select to get your channels over the internet or cable? If you are getting them over the internet do you notice any issues during Peak internet times like at night? sorry for all the questions! Thanks again Cheers 👍😊
Hi Paul, thanks for your question. I was on Foxtel cable with an IQ2 box and ethernet cable for Anytime Catchup (now known as streaming) on Telstra Broadband. When I switched to NBN I lost the internet features of the IQ2 box. Then I found out that Foxtel was ending the cable service in 2023 (That is when their contract with Telstra ends) and moving towards streaming. I was starting my journey to look for ways to get internet to my IQ2 and I had made a few enquiries about how to do that but I did not know about IQ5 and I did not want to pay the $100 to upgrade to IQ4 and have a satellite on my roof. I don't know if there is a link with my enquiries but I did get an email offering to upgrade to IQ5 for free and I accepted the offer. If you are an IQ2 customer I suggest making some enquiries to see if there is something there for you.
@@talkingaboutit-discussiont4475 Hi and thank you for your reply, so you are getting your channel over the internet then, so are you have any issues during peak internet times yet? I am on satellite with IQ4 and looking to get IQ5, Cheers Paul
Yes Paul, the Foxtel content is via internet connection and the FTA is via terrestrial cable. The good thing about this is that when you change channels on Foxtel content you can "start over" and watch the show from the beginning. After I use the box a little bit more I will make another video and go into this with more detail including what is going to happen with apps in the future.
Hi, I had the iq2 up until yesterday but my new place doesn’t have a dish so I was about to get Foxtel now. I really didn’t want it because I couldn’t record with it. So I was extremely happy when I found out today about the iq5 after many many questions I have ordered. So my questions are can you series link our shows ? Also plugging it in we use antenna for free to air but if you were happy to not watch channel 7 9 10 say do you still need to plug into antenna wall socket? Do we get my favourite weather content? I use to love the weather button on demand I think it was, 2 clicks weather but when we lost and then had to go news search then the weather channel arhhh I look forward to your next video hopefully mine comes quick 🤞🏼then I to will be experimenting
Hi Michelle, you will be happy with the IQ5. If you have the My Foxtel app on your phone it will work with the new box so you can series link and record your programs in much the same way as the IQ2.. I dropped a new video today that hopefully answers your other questions :-). Your old remote will work with the new IQ but I think you will soon fall in love with the voice control feature on the new controller. Yes you can connect your Free to air programs as well.
@@talkingaboutit-discussiont4475 it came last week and yes I do like it but a few glitches. Was on the phone today to find out why I couldn’t record two shows at once. Turns out you can’t record two free to air channels only two Foxtel channels and one free to air so that’s disappointing. Also tvsn won’t record, maybe 2 shows out of about 15 has worked keeps saying entitlement loss so that’s frustrating. Yes I do like the voice control a lot but I’m missing my iq2. Much much easier to play your recorded shows back then now going home button, library button, shows play. Also disappointed no 10 play no paramount plus. So I’d give it at 6/10 ok I’m of to watch your new video
@@michelleparker9919 I will be doing a series on affordable ways to get the other apps (like 10 Play, Parramount+) to supplement the Foxtel IQ5 because I agree with you that they missed an opportunity to keep people in their controller by adding the other streaming services. Losing the ability to record more than one terrestrial channel is a downgrade for sure. Thanks for your feedback.
@@talkingaboutit-discussiont4475 I’m using the Roku box for paramount+ and 10 plus as you can download every app out there and as long as you have two hdmi outlets. And extremely easy to swap between the two.
If you have an iQ5 with a hard drive or iQ4 connected to your home internet, you can record up to two Foxtel programs while watching a third live. If you have this setup you should be ok to record 2 programs at the same time.
Something I am very keen to know is how this new box compares to the iQ4 for viewing sports. The iQ4 has a terrible, and I mean shockingly bad pause system. Its almost impossible to rewind to a particular spot in the game you are watching becuase it skips rather than just stop exatly where you want it to. The iQ2 was far better at thsi than the iQ4 so I'm keen to see if this now works better on the iQ5. Can you test it for me?
Fast fwd and rewind on live tv, is it the same as the old boxes? If you record a program can you go fwd and back to skip commercials. I have heard you cant.
My experience so far is that you can skip forward and back but I will have a play around and give my results in the next Q&A video soon. I will also talk about my positive experience with recording as opposed to watching streamed content vs catchup.
Hi David, I will talk more about this in my next video, my understanding so far is that you can plug in a USB drive and watch content. I could not find a menu option to match this so I am thinking it will appear in the library menu. I will know more in a few days and tell more then.
Hi Peter, setting a favorite is done by going to settings, favorite channels and scrolling through the guide to find the channels you want to add. To ad a channel you just press "Select" on your control. Press "Select" on each channel until you have selected all the ones you want and then back out. to remove a channel from your favorites just repeat the steps and press "select" and the channel will be removed. I will explain better in my next video.
