This is a good demo, and HDMI stuff is fun to mess with for making new pattern generators etc. (I wrote a "Quantel Paintbox" style drawing thing in Verilog, for example.) Just a hint, though - if you use the Programmer or SignalTap tool in Quartus, it's much faster to just reconfigure the FPGA directly using the SOF file than copying over the RBF to the SD card each time. (The MiSTer project works in a very similar way, so you are able to copy RBFs etc. via scp that way, but for debugging, using the SOF is so much faster and more convenient. Obviously the FPGA will lose that SOF config once powered-off, though.)

Oh, yep, there's also a checkbox in Assignments -> Device -> Device and Pin Options button -> Programming Files, where you can have it automatically generate an RBF after every compile. Just saves doing that extra step. ;)

Thank you! I will start using that and mention it in the next video. (I will make sure to give your comment credit 😁) Very helpful. Also, I have never heard of the Quantel Paintbox before. That sounds like an excellent idea to try to make my own spin-off video tutorial for. Thank you for sharing. I subscribed to your channel, you have some interesting/cool videos.

@@metaphysicscomputing Thanks. ;) The Paintbox was one of the first mainstream TV graphics machines, from around 1980. It was used on tons of shows and some movies over the years, so the machines became a bit of a cult classic / techie nerd object since then. DextersTechLab has been doing restorations of some of those machines. After my first reply, it got me wondering if the default Linux distro on the DE10 will try to re-configure the FPGA if you directly configure it from the SOF / USB Blaster. Hopefully it won't, so the SOF thing should work.
